1.
Thanks for the info. You'll have to let us know when you have some recordings of that. I bet it sounds amazing.
The tone that comes out of it is jaw-dropping...
I'll be close miking it with an Electro-Voice RE27 (got a bargain one from eBay off a guy in Canada for £250 - they're £1K new in the UK), with the the signal from the bass also DI'd through an Avalon U5 - or maybe a REDDI (but only if I can face paying nearly £600 for a DI box). I'm just looking to get my studio sound very sorted before we record the LP later in the year...

2.
Bloody hell! Would you consider lending / renting that out for recording sessions?
Sorry - no.

It's taken me a long time to find one as good as this one, then ship it from Seattle, get it converted to UK voltage & then carefully restored back to original spec. I have a full flight case on order - but I could never replace it if it was badly damaged. It's just not built to stand up to being bounced about in the back of a transit van.
And the whole hassle of origanising collection/delivery/return...? It's just not worth the grief or the worry.

But I think some of the bigger professional London hire companies (Audiohire?) do have them available for hire (probably the 70's ones - you need to check) - the day rate is probably £40-50.

3. Here's my recording rig - just come back from being restored by Steve Rowse after I had it shipped over from the US.
It's a virtually mint 1965 Ampeg B-15Na 'Portaflex'. Incredibly rare in the UK - the absolute dog's bollocks of bass amps.
With a valve sound so sweet it brings tears to my eyes...!
Too rare, valuable & delicate to gig (& not really loud enough for live) - but in the studio this is without equal...which is why they've been used on countless great LPs over the last 40 years.
Enjoy.
:)

4.
That sample was with the bass and treble bosted on the bass somewhat, I was playing along with a track with not much else in it so wanted to fill it out. It has a gorgeously smooth deep sound like that. I will do some flatter samples soon, but having some problems with my recording gear at the moment, I hope to iron it out tomorrow!
Lovely looking beast!
I've always fancied a COMBAT bass http://www.combat-guitars.com/ - but they seem almost impossible to get outside Japan....

5.
+1
Shows pickup and pg tail. It's a P without question.
Sorry - Yes - you're right I hadn't looked at the 3rd track 'runaway' - & he is indeed using a CAR Precision.

But on the other 2 tracks it's his white 66 Jazz...

6.
That bass sound is awesome, it's exactly what I love about P-basses.
Errr.....
That's actually a vintage '66 Jazz bass - not a P-bass (not that I don't LOVE Precisions though!).

7. Here's a 1978 Guild B-301 - the coolest looking rock n roll bass there is!
With plenty of good ol' Mojo!
As requested by bassman2790...
(I got this one from MacDaddy)

+1 for that!
These boys are GODS!
Forget all that 6 string bass twiddly diddly nonsense - this is real bass playing!
Check out the Grace Jones CD 'Private Life: The Compass Point Sessions'.

Pure genius bass playing & drumming.

9.
If i want to buy something from canada or the USA whether it be off ebay or not, what sort of fees will i have to pay?
I am thinking of buying the sadowsky bass di pedal thing and there is no cheap places to buy it in the uk it seems to be around £200 whereas in america it is about £120 ish not including postage and whatever fees i have to pay!!
any info welcomed!
thanks
phil
I was just about to put a Sadowsky DI box up for sale if you're interested?

10.
Is it still available and What is the impeedance on this cab

cheers pete
Hi Pete,

Yes - still available!

Impedance?
I'm pretty sure that it's 8 Ohms - but I can't find any info on the Trace Elliot site (useless for old product info!) & there's nothing written on the cab itself. I had the cab advertised previously on BassTalk & some more knowledgable folks than me all confirmed that it was 8 Ohms.

Cheers

Jim

11.
I'd certainly try it. I buy a lot of smaller parts from basspartsresource.com. They ship via USPS (rather than UPS) and I have never been asked to pay any import duty so far.
+1 on buying stuff from basspartsresource.com - never had to pay duty...

12. Trace Elliot 1510X 300W (8 Ohms) Cab for sale.
This is quite old - but has been in storage for the last 10 years unused - so is in really good condition for its age - just a bit dusty!
A great full range cab - that can be bi-amped if you want. Complete with wheels.
£125.00
Collection from Banbury, Oxfordshire (it would probably be expensive to ship) - or I could deliver it a reasonable distance for a petrol contribution...

*** NOW SOLD ***

13.
99ster comes with my full recommendation.
I bought a couple of things at a fantastic price and received them very quickly. Great comms too!
Cheers Jim,

paul.
Many thanks Paul - that's much appreciated!

14.
Yes on a Mexican rosewood fingerboard Fender. I had one on a Mexican Jazz.
Well I never...
Thanks for the extra info Muppet!
I stand corrected!

15.
I mean obviously the sunburst refin gets a vote from me, but i've always been a fan of the vintage cream colours with a tort pickguard. Fecking Quality :)

Si

a quick p.s. edit: i think i beat the profanity filter hehe
Yes - there's no denying the goodness of a nicely aged Olympic White + tort pickguard....
Mmmm...
But black + tort pickguard.... can look wicked with all the chrome in place.

16.
Isn't there supposed to be a skunk stripe on the back of the neck on these things? Also there seems to be a difference to the fading on the back of the neck close to the neck pocket, like the neck was originally on another body.

Add to that there's absolutely no sign of the Ricky he claims he's sold in his feedback, and I'd stick well clear.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...bayphotohosting
Skunk stripe? Not a on a rosewood finger board Fender. You're maybe thinking of a solid maple neck/board - when the truss-rod is added from behind...

17.
I actually like that horrid orangey colour!
Back 25 years ago in my punk rock days I might have agreed with you!
:)
But I'm a certified old [horse and cart] now - so I reckon it will end up as sensible understated sunburst or black...(open to suggestions!).
That respray orangey/red will definitely be coming off though as we need to see what's hidden underneath it - as I'm pretty confident it is a vintage body...
