The Birmingham specsavers lady is really rather tasty (New Street) - an added bonus
Nice one!
-
Just found out that your local SpecSavers do the full service for the custom-fit Etymotic ER-15 attenuated ear plugs:
http://www.specsavershearcare.co.uk/
I was looking at travelling miles (taking a day off work) to get the moulds done until I found this out...rang my local branch & spoke to a very nice lady Audiologist - booked in for the test & fitting in Banbury.
Job done. -
Are you tempted to nibble?
I do love this bass - but we're now at $23,000 (£13,850 with import duty & VAT) & I bet it don't stop there...
Bonkers.
And even if I had crazy money like that to spend - I don't care how good the guy's feedback is I wouldn't send someone in the US that much cash via PayPal & hope that a bass turned up OK in the post...!!
I'm sure this has been on ebay before, i don't think it sold.
Someone has taken it over the reserve ($23,000 I think) - so it will get sold this time.
And it may sound crazy - but $23,000 is a bargain price for one of these! The only other ones I've seen have all been around $35-40,000 mark. -

Gotta be worth a look guys

...don't forget that this will actually cost you around about £1,025 after you add duty, VAT & shipping...

How much does this one stink of scam?
I do mean to be prejudice here and to generalise. But judging by his appearance, taste in music, spelling and grammar - I bet he's never played anything beyond four strings (not inherently a bad thing, of course) and he's just built a many stringed bass for the sake of building a many stringed bass and oneupmanship.
Assuming he doesn't have any mental disabilities beyond poor development.
Sorry if I sound mean, but this is silly.
Oh, and for the record; I apolygise for my appearance, taste in music, spelling and grammar - at least I'm not trying to build a 14 stringed bass.
But I bet that guy would be really pissed off if you did build a 14 string bass!
I didn't know how cool these basses were until I found out that George Porter Junior played one.
Keep it natural, it looks great and very unique. Although a Californian yellow would be pretty cool.
Yeah....
It don't get much cooler than this (though George is playing a '68 Tele bass here - or maybe even a really old 50's Precision?):
Just bought a brand new Ashdown ABM-500 RC EVO II and i used it today in practise for the first time. It was fine for about 15mins, then there was a really strong burning smell and the amp just shut down and won't turn on again!!!!
Very weird! does anyone know why this might of happened? I wasn't driving the amp that hard.... the input was at about 9 o'clock and the VU meter was no where near the red, and the output volume was at 12 o'clock......
If you talk to any amp tech they'll all tell you the same story - they get loads of business from repairing Ashdown gear because it keeps breaking.
And that can only happen because they're poorly designed, or use cheap sh*t components, or both.
That tells me all I need to know... -
James Jamerson didn't need 13 strings.

I need to s-s-s-s-peak to my therapist.
I feel dizzy. -
Hmph.
http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZhankerooQQhtZ-1
They seem to take vintage instruments apart and sell the parts off in penny numbers. This week, it's an EB-2. Body, pickup, wiring, case all in seperate auctions. I'm sure I remember them selling an EB-3 off in individual parts a while ago, the whole thing.
Hmph again.
I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I am not keen on this scattering of vintage parts. Surely it would be better to gather together all the parts that belong together and sell it as a project? Sadly, it's probably done for financial gain; the individual parts being worth more than selling them in one go.
Thrice hmph.
Yep - I f*****g hate it when people do that. -
So beautiful...

Watch the price on this beauty go bananas! There'll be a feeding frenzy towards the end.

The 2 sets of DR Hi-Beams I ordered from MyMusicStuff have just arrived - ordered on the 19th so took a week from the US.
A fantastic price (HALF the price I'd pay from Stringbusters!) - & a week delivery time from the US (postage $10) is OK by me.
All-in-all a total 'no brainer'! It's like 'buy one get one free'!
The best place I've ever found for strings!
Many thanks for the tip guys! -
Have these gone to Paul yet?
Yes - Paul has these now - I'll update the original post... -
How about black for the new colour?
I've got a black one (like the guy from 'The Hives') - & it looks great!
And yes - the sound is absolutely monstrous from that humbucker!

Fantastic reproduction vintage electrical components for basses (& geetars) & Amps - highly recommended:

I'm sure there was one for sale for quite a while on the old BassWorld forum...?
stick a j retro in there!
When I was first planning what to do with the 'orange beast' I had considered a J Retro...
But once I'd found out that the body was also 1960 like the neck I decided to go for a full restoration - so I've now sourced 250/250k pots (the 62 reissue stack knob kit is good for the knobs & control plate - but has has 250/500k pots which aren't authentic for a 60 bass) - & even got wax/paper capacitors & carbon comp resistors to the original spec from this amazing guy on eBay who hand builds vintage components.
So no - there'll be none of that fancy new modern electronics nonsense!
Yuk!
-
Yeah - that's nice...!
It's really got that 70's punk vibe - Pistols, Clash, Ramones - kinda feel.
Lovely.
Funnily enough - I just got offered an ex Sex Pistols '74 Precision... for sale at £20K! -
*** PRICE DROP to £125.00 ***
Result. The dream lives on!
Yep - I suppose this proves there are still some bargains out there to be had...if you're lucky. -
that's a thought, if the guy had just sold the parts he'd probzo have gotten more money for it!
Without a doubt. Much, much more than he got for the complete bass...
And that was a possible option for me until I had it confirmed that both the neck & body were 1960 originals. -
MB1.
Looking forward to the unvieling ceremony, hope all goes well!.(nice to see some good news, regarding ebay instead of the normal horror stories.)
I've been stitched up more than once on eBay - so I'm thinking of it as karma!
