2. Sad to let this go but I dont use it anymore its just too big for me....

Trace Elliott SMX 12 band preamp. This was the top of the range preamp in the pre-Gibson era of Trace. It does about everything you could want a preamp to do and produces that fantastic Trace sound. Includes...

12 band graphic - with mix
    Valve/solid state
    2 Trace presets.
    2 band compressor
2 effects send/return (one of them stereo)
Stereo outputs can be used for bi-amping etc. and some other stuff round the back I dont understand (but I've got a copy of the manual)

Its in a Warwick 4u shallow rack bag.

Hollywood power amp 2x500 into 4ohms. Bought this as a temporary measure as cheap power amp... and its still working ok. Its very light (much lighter than the Trace) and has got flexible output options. Can be bridged - though I ve not tried. Most importantly its got a row of pretty lights that go up and down when you play....

£275 for the lot. Its too heavy to post so have to be pick up from North Essex or something.

Selling this as I have decided to try and match my BagEnd 115 with another cab of the same type.

A few months old, never gigged, as new condition.

32lbs - very light to carry.

£300.00 ovno for collection in Milton Keynes or I'll drive a few miles to meet up.

I'll put up pics in the next day or two. Ta!
4. Hi - looking for some advice.

Just bought a new toy - my first six string (thanks Russ) . I'm interested in trying to string it up as E to E (or F) for two reasons..

    1. I'm playing a piece at the moment that needs to me go so high up the neck I get nose bleeds...seriously dusty 21st fret of C string.
    2. I like the sound of simple chords - these work better on higher notes - reckon I dont use the B string enough.

Does anybody tune a sixer this way?

Any ideas what strings/guages to use - or where to get a high E that will match?

    All advice gratefully received.

    Martin

  5. Nice to see this - I had a right handed one for years as my main bass. In the days before active basses were common the Kramer gave a good twang - as well as being eyecatching with alu neck.

  6. For sale: Ashdown abm 210 compact - with horn/tweeter thing
    300 Watts
    8 ohm
    2 x Ashdown blueline drivers

This is the older version one with the logo in the corner.
Good quality and reliable. This is the compact version so its not that deep - makes its easier to get in the back of the car.

Its in good condition - I've had it since new and its only been used for a handful of gigs/rehearsals.
Its the one on the bottom in the picture on its side (its got feet on both long and short sides so you can have either way up).

I'm based in North Essex - local pickup only but happy to meet somewhere if it helps.

  7. Hi - would you be interested in trade + cash for MTD kingston 5 string. Curously its currently strung EADGC but I want something with the full 6 strings.

Great bass to play lightweight etc etc. but painted a rather fetching blue. Maple board very pretty.

  8.
Yep sorry about that dude, blame Haruki.... :) he needed one in a hurry for a gig and came round with cold hard cash.....

This is a good deal if you wanna trade up from a 30.

    Good luck bud...
mmmm and many tas burpster. I really like the amp and will use to punish the good folk of Portsmouth on Saturday.

Who knows after that ... might succumb to the lure of extra grunt....

  9. That looks so like one I had for a coupla years....can't believe there are that many pimped yamaha's with barts and abm bridge.
If its the same one - I got it from the bass merchant in Essex ... Mike Walsh (zoot basses) had added the electrics and bridge. I traded it in their too.

Must admit I really liked the bass and found it v playable and great electrics. Bridge was normal when I had it.... for me its biggest problem was being so brown.

Good luck with sale... good buy at that price.

  10.
I was told id need least a 150 watt?

any recommendations on what i should get and what size?

    thanks x
for what its worth... id say make sure your speakers are up to it. Nothing worse then the amp having more umph but the speakers turning to mush. Ive been there with 125 Watt peavey combo. really needed extension cab to get the best from the amp

  11.
If its not I have one available!
ooh thats sound interesting similar price ... where are you. For various compliacted reasons need something like it fairly quick? Need it for a sort of giggette next weekend

  13. Hi everybody - I've been lurking around for a few months but realised I have not introduced myself - so thought I better had.

I live in North essex, in my 40's playing mainly menopausal pub-rock ... waiting for the right 12 piece soul band to come along. I've been playing for several hundred years but stopped getting better a long time ago... so I'm no Jaco but happy to plod along - as long people can dance without major spinal injury I'm happy.

I mainly play 5 strings now a Lakland Jo5 and a Warwick Jazzman - which is my main prop at present. Use either SWR amp or Trace pre-power set up and odd assortment of cabs. Think I'm gonna be looking for the lightweight stuff tho.

I've got two sons who have both started to play bass - so at the moment we've got err 7 basses - cant see why the wife thinks thats excessive...havent even got a 6 string....yet.

    hey ho.

  14.
Has anyone tried a Levinson Blade Tetra Classic? (That's the one with the passive pickups, despite having a battery for the mid boost circuit, if I understand correctly.)

This got a great review in Bass Guitar Magazine and I am very interested.

A related questions is, does anyone know where I can try one remotely close to York?
mmmm if this is the jazz-copy one cost on the £400ish range - they had one at the bass merchant in witham essex a few months back. Think it might still be there .. but not very close to york.

I had a quick plunk on it and must admit for the money I did like it as an alternative to a jazz.

  15. At the moment I mainly play a Warwick Fna Jazzman 5 string - which I think looks ugly - but its great to play. Otherwise a Lakland JO5 which looks luvly... but doesnt sound as good given the sort of stuff I usualy play.

  16. Cheers - thanks for that. Good job Ive got that account with Northern Rock then.

Interesting that you mention the control layout - I thought Iwas being a bit dense but once you got beyond the active mode I'm never quite sure what does what. Too lazy to read the book. The semi-active bit confuses me too.

Hey ho. At least it dependable, nice and light, and sounds ok.

  17. Hi.. some time ago I bought (secondhand) a Fender Jazz Plus...didnt know much about it - still don't.
They seem to be fairly rare beasts and just wondered if anybody knew why? I kinda like mine.

For those that dont know they've got active lace sensor pickups; non standard badass like bridge and smaller headstock and body. They dont have the normal control plate either. I gather they were made in the early 90's.

I mainly play fives now so it doesn't get out much.

Do I have a future classic... or an evolutionary dead end? Anybody know why these never took off?

  18.
Just doing a bit of research on German evilbay and wonder if anyone has any experience of these?

Johnson do a number of Jazz and Precision copies starting at c £100 including 2 X 5 String Jazzes with block inlays

    http://stores.ebay.de/ML-Factory-Gitarrenshop

I've seen Johnson on UK ebay but never 5 Stringers. I wonder if these could rival SX ( or are the same as) as shipped they are around the same price and no duty to pay?
Hi - if you havent taken the plunge yet... I bought a johnson 5 stringer - fretless jazz off ebay a couple of years ago. I wanted to try fretless and not pay much.

The bass is pretty solid affair and to be honest I do like playing it but it has some serious issues..
.. the B string is really flappy, pretty much useless. Not sure if this is fixable with new strings - must admit havent really tried.
.. electrics have been scratchy and I need to sort them out one of volumes cuts out.

Made me cautious about super cheap 5 strings
