  1. Hi Meterman it’s a great place for sure. Look forward to the Bullet review!
  2. Thanks Meterman, it’s a veneer but looks really good Here’s a couple of pics of one I made earlier
  3. Budget plate change courtesy of Fablon
  4. Hi lovely bass. Straight swop for my 2005 us s1switch jazz in one year only Candy chrome red/black/maple With add on mint green scratch plate and chrome fender ashtrays? Mike up in Fife
  5. Mint green see the custom shop 60s P that came out a couple of years back. Just looks great!

  7. Hi, purely from that pic it looks like a refin to me. My Musicmaster neck was stripped and stained dark so isn’t a helpful comparison but my early 70s P is lighter and smoother but with plenty of age related dings.
  8. Hi Scrumpymike, thanks for your observations, good to get your experiences. I replaced the strings and actually the previous E didn’t match the rest of the set that were on, it being heavier than the rest. Take your point re neck reaction so will revisit tomorrow once they’ve been on for 24 hours and see what it’s like then
  9. Hi, yes it is a short scale set. Cut a few inches beyond wrap point and tucked into hole in tuner
  10. Thanks NJE and Hooky (surely not Peter ‘Imself ...?) that was my first reaction but somewhere in my memory I think there have been some comments about short scales having issues with flappy E strings so was just wondering if there was a more generic issue. Will certainly get in touch with Rotosound to see what they say though
  11. Afternoon all, have just restrung my 1972 Fender Musicmaster bass with rotosound 66 roundwounds - 40-90. The A, D and G strings all sound fine but the E is a bit duff. Any thoughts on what’s causing this, or what works for you? Previously had heavier strings that seemed to work fine.
  12. There’s one on gumtree right now in wales

Just spotted! Bit steep however. £250 yes but £400 is way above what they are worth

Howard "the Drummer" from Stevenage regularly advertises one on Gumtree. Most of his gear is overpriced though.

  13. Anyone near Derby can grab a gumtree bargain - looks like a dx in need of some tLC. No affiliation...
  14. Stuart Morrow used a Thunder when in New Model Army -see the Marquee live footage from 85 I think. That’s a pretty good endorsement
  15. And another one... just did a deal with Karl for a pickup and I think we’re both winners! One of the best, thanks mate. 5 star recommendation!
  16. Yep put them in my 73 p bass when originals were getting a bit tired/scratchy. Lots of playing through headphones but love them. Sounds like a p should.
  17. Crank up the treble and play Stranglers bass
  18. I believe you could buy a fretless neck alongside the fretted bolt-on necked bass at one point when new. I’d really like to try one if anyone has one. I had an aria sb600 in the mid 80s and the Westone isn’t maybe just as good but that might be to do with the thirty years wear n tear in between times!
  19. I’ve got a Spectrum DX and it’s really decent. Maple body rosewood neck. High gloss black finish looks immaculate from several feet away though fairly dinged up on closer inspection. Single pickup is I believe essentially a p and sounds excellent. Unlike the Thunder it’s not a heavy bass. I’d definitely recommend.
  20. Westone used to sell fretless and fretted neck for spectrum bass. Not quite the same thing
  21. Hi yes I think MW Mustang was 250 new. I got one at 150 second hand, put flats on it and really like it but it's heavier than MiJ mustang and my old Musicmaster. I play it most of the three
  22. Go watt boon Hurley go. Saw firehose in the late 80s too. Joe mccarthys ghost remains a favourite. As does Stories. Check em out
  23. Try one with the S1 switch. Really adds another dimension
  24. Guys. So many great suggestions and a feast of great listening ... And the winner is.... We all are!
