1.
2. After dismissing Fender/Jazz basses for so long thinkking that they looked nice but probably weren't for me the VMJ has completely changed my mind - in fact at the moment I think my ideal bass at the moment would be a Sunburst 70's style jazz with block inlays and a tort pickguard, but that just sounds so unlike me.
I have just bought a Fender 70's Reissue Jazz bass, exactly as you described. Block inlays in Sunburst. It does have a black pickguard but you can change that or take it off your VMJ and put it on the Fender :) Not only highly recommended here (look for my other threads) but when I was buying it, I was comparing it to a Musicman and there really was not much in in it. Yes it had a different sound and neck but no worse, just different. It cost £440 and I love it. Check the picture below.

  2.
That's it - I'm officially hooked. I was expecting this bass to be a cheap introduction to fretless (which it is) but I'm blown away by the quality - easily matches the standard of my Ibanez which was a fair bit more expensive!!!

Sounds good as well - although it's a little bit noisy, but I'm sure some proper shielding will sort that out. Oh and it looks sooo much better with a pickguard as well.
See, we knew you would love it. Its such a bgreat bass. Now get some pictures up with the scratchplate on :)

  3.
Ish again! You really need to use the lines as a guide. IMO, there is no substitute for using you ears on a fretless, and you will need to make minor adjustments to where you "fret" a note as you play, rather than rely slavishly on the lines. All part of the fretless fun!

I very nearly bought Pentode's VMJ a few weeks back - I think it looks fantastic with a tort scratchplate.
Yeah very good point. Your ears are always your best option.

  4. By the way everyone, in case anyone is interested, I also have a genuine Musicman String Ray for sale. It was custom made just for me because I asked them really nicely and they said they would only do this for me as I am special. I also whispered the magic password, "Sound Control" which means I only had to pay the special £51 for it. Its made from a special wood that I hand picked which is called plastic. You can only get it in places like China so it's really rare. I also made sure that it was active but did not require a battery so to do away with the silly battery cover. The pickups are my own design that can't be found anywhere else and Ernie Ball loves them. I call them the "Sound Control Specials". So again, these pickups are really rare. The headstock is also special as I insisted that Ernie Ball did away with any information on the back of it. All other Musicman basses have this so this makes mine even more rare. Finally the bridge. this is so rare that I can't actually talk about it. Either way, I think your love this genuine String Ray bass thats really old and vintage yet also not that old and is pretty new. I have attached a photo but if you want anymore then I'll find an excuse not to post them. I can't be fairer than that. I'll start the bidding at £51.

    :)

  5.
I had 2 messages from the original seller.

"Hi there yes i sold this bass to this guy but it is not a real musicman bass it is a cheap copy. If you want to speak send me your number and i will talk to you. Kind regards Allison"

"I am disgusted that this guy has sold this bass for that amount of money. Do you know the person who has bought the bass? Or have you contacted them? When I sold him the bass if it had have been a real MM bass I would not have sold it for £51. It is nothing like a real MM as it doesn't have a MM pickup on, it is not active and the body is also made of plywood. He has stated that it is a real MM which is a complete lie. He has used official MM descriptions to list this bass. I feel very sorry for the person who bought the as he or she has been riped off. Hopefully they have not paid for the bass as yet. Please would you contact me back.
    Regards Allison"
Excellent work waynepunkdude. Is Allison a member here now? Point her in this direction. This chap has really annoyed me now as he blatently tried to rip somebody off. What a tosser. Woyuld love him to get some payback.

I am checcking Ebay every now and again to see if he has offered it to the next bidder in the line. Nothing so far. Also keeping an eye out to see if he re-lists it. We could of course have some fun with the guy and say we saw the auction ended early and does he have any other Musicman basses for sale and see what he says back :):)

  6. I have Greenking's old SB320, which is a honey sunburst colour and has gold hardware with the Gotoh tuners. It has a P/J pickup configuration and says SGC on the pickups and SGC Nanyo Bass Collection on the battery cover. The serial number is also a sticker on the battery cover and not inside the cover. It might be on the cover inside also but I have not looked to be honest. The serial number is 953293 so I guess the 95 means made in 95. The 32 means its a 320 so what does the 93 stand for??

Here is a picture of it with my other toys.

  7.
I bet you got a real boost from this, good spot.
Well, I am just happy that we caught a fraudster. There are enough tossers out there trying to rip inocent people off. We should all be happy that we did this. The only thing that caught my eye was the headstock looked the wrong shape, which was a little geeky of me. Also the sticker clearly looked wrong, the top horn looked a bit pointy and the body looked a bit thin. It was the other guys who noticed the more technical details like the bridge and pickups. So a great team effect with a great result.

  8.
thanks for your messages buy the way!!!

    cool lot of geezers..CHEERS!
Hi Shonks, great to see you made it here. I am Linus27 on here and first alerted this clever lot to what i thought was a fake. I am 27Renault who also contacted you on Ebay. Really pleased you have not parted with your money. As you can see from the above comments, it sure is a fake.

  9. Good news in the end. Has anyone emailed the winner to say its not a real Musicman??

Oh, and I got an answer to my question for picture of the back, neck plate and rear of the head stock. His reply was,

The neck plate has been replaced and the notivation sticker on the back has come off because its quite old.

Another fraudster busted. Good work everyone.

  10.
Aren't individual opinions great :)

Seriously though - I wouldn't have bought this Bass on looks, it's the decent reviews (and the price that swayed me).

I think Jazz basses without the pickguard look fugly, so when I recieve mine I will change it (and surely even if I decided to take it off again the screw holes that are left would make it look more "Jaco" anyway?
HEHE I have a black jazz that I have taken the white scratplate of leaving the holes and it looks great.

Anyway, I love my VMJ and I am sure your going to love yours when you get it. they are superb. The neck is especially brillaint.

  11. Blimey. I am quite proud in seeing what I thought was a fake Musicman on Ebay. I wonder if this would convince my wife that as I know all about them I should own one :) I also hope that it has saved someone from being ripped of.

I've just asked for picture of the back of the body, the neck plate and the back of the headstock. I bet I don't get them

  12. Have a look at this link on Ebay for a Musicman. Look at the shot of the head. It just looks wrong. The sticker is different to normal. Also the body looks a bit thin. Anyone else think it looks a bit odd.

  13. If anyone is looking to buy one of these superb Stagg EUB, just to let you know that one has come up for sale in the For Sale section. Not mine may I add.

    http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry346647

    Hope that helps somebody out.

  14.
Thanks mate. Maybe you're right on the price. I'd do it for £300 inc postage or £285 picked up. This really is as new
No problem. I think that a much more realistic deal and somebody should snap that up. They would be foolish not to. I have put a heads up to this sale in the Stagg thread in the double bass forum. Hope that helps.
