1. headstock looks modelled on a black eagle that's had that piece fallen off it
2. On the lookout for an 800RB, are there any eras/years that are better than others, or are they all about the same spec?
3. I was a bit reluctant to get in there and toy with my new bass (it's a 4003, way too nice for me) - I've done setups on all my other guitars and other bass before, so I guess if I'm careful there's nothing to worry about.
4. yeah i'll have a tinker with the setup for sure - good to know they'll loosen a bit, cheers for the info.
5. Replaced a very old set of elixir strings with some earnie balls of the same guage and now find a lot more taugtness in the action, and the action also raised a little. Nowhere near as comforable to play, even though the guage is the same. Not sure what my point or quesrtion is here. I want it to sound as good as it does now but play as good as it did before I changed the strings. I know nothing about strings btw. clearly.
6. Very helpful dave, thanks very much. I restrung last night so will have a go through an amp tonight to see if is was a duff E srtring.
7.
One mod that I have found useful is to use two or three washers under the tailpiece on the three screws that live under the bridge piece to fill the gap which you will find under there, this gives a better contact to the body. Also you can drill the tailpiece where the bridge height adjustment screws are so that they go through to the body wood instead of sitting in the little wells in th tailpiece, this makes the bridge very solid and has an advantage in the screws not sticking up five millimetres just where you want your hand! Apparently there are older RIcs that were made like this. I have found it to give tthe E string more presence and generally a bit more lively! Putting washers under the tailpiece can also give less chance of the infamous tail- lift, I think this is because you can no longer over tighten the mounting screws and bow the tailpiece.
o...k you have totally lost me bro. also, what is tail-lift?
8. sorry i mistyped - my model does not have screws to alter pole pieces. changing the angle of the entire pickup will not even them out i think - had a try of that.
9. the pole piece on the E string is a good 2mm lower than the others, while my setup has the strings prettymuch in line
10. any way to adjust these? i dont have a newer model with the hex screws - finding my E string is lower volume than the others and I think it's because the pole piece is further from the string. anyone else had the same problem? how did you fix?
11. any exact models? was there no such thing as bass headroom in the 70s?
12. Serious question - I have no idea. There is a wealth of vintage guitar amps out there, many makes to chose from. But I am totally stumped for 70s era vintage bass amps that can hold up? Ampeg? Hiwatt? Sunn? Surely not everyone could afford them. And where the f*ck are they all now?

16. does anywhere in UK stock them or have people here shipped them from the US?
17. Played on one last night - 3 band EQ?! tone was great and all but I was surprised at the lack of flexibility - I need my mid control dammit, at least get a sweep on there or something. End rant.
18. Hey, trying to get a bit of a mid-range grind with my 4003, maybe make it sound a bit more like a Jazz (without getting a Jazz, sorry). Any thoughts?
19. That's a pretty cute father/daughter band they got going on

Awesome bassist, interviewed him many moons ago and he was a top bloke to have a chat with as well. Never know he used a blazer, now I love them even more.
