16. Good call on Stuart Morrow from New Model Army, also Nelson the guy who replaced him. Paul Raven (RIP) of Killing Joke and Ministry Danny McCormack - The Wildhearts Michael McKeegan - Therapy Lee Rocker --the Stray Cats (ok i know he's a slap bass player but great all the same
17.
My worst was when I foolishly offered to play double bass (my first time) to do a show. Ten days later I went into opening night with all four fingers on my left hand bandaged and both plucking fingers on my right hand bandaged too. Incredible pain, and no chance of even starting to heal until the run ended. +1 for your future calluses.
Ha Ha, been there, my first gig with my psychobilly band and i had bust a couple of my nylon strings and all i could get as replacements were steel,so four songs into a 14 song set and my finger ends exploded, blood all over the bass,my white vest and spot bleached jeans, the crowd were loving it thinking i was using some sort of fake blood capsules for effect (i wish) taught me a valuable lesson in looking after my hands that day,if i think about it long enough i'm sure i can still feel the pain
18. we live in stanley which is just up the road from oulton, Rooftop Gardens, crikey that takes me back a bit,not the same anymore though in fact i doubt you'd recognise town now, just about all the businesses on westgate have shut down now and been replaced by bars. Makes the famous Westgate Run a bit of a marathon now
19. Thanks for the welcome guys, i'm in wakefield, not far from leeds,The band is based in huddersfield,so i get about a bit I must admit to wishing i'd never parted with the upright, you can't beat the sound of an old slap bass when it's done properly, just shopping about on the net for a double$$,the low end on those things is pretty awesome and just right for my side project.more on that later maybe L8R GR
20. Hi everybody Just found the site and thought i'd say hello i've been playing for around 20 years on and off in a variety of bands, mostly rock based but have also played upright slap bass in a couple of rockabilly/psychobilly bands. The gear i'm using at the moment is an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro,a couple of Ampeg 4x10 cabs, and 2 Musicman stingrays, although i have recently been trying a Warwick Corvette Double Buck for a new project i'm involved with. Cheers for now GR
