1. Given my budget and space requirements, I think I've boiled down my cab choices to these four, and I need some help!

I've been and tried some amps, and really liked the TH500 so that's what these will be paired with. The rig will be used for rock and indie with my wedding/function band (so competing with two guitarists and an energetic drummer), usually playing with PA support but often not.

Youtube suggests I like the sound of all of them (especially the SL112), but how do they perform at gig volumes? All of them except the Two 10 would be used in pairs.

Any help would be great - I've been researching for ages, but knowing just how loud they can get seems tough to find out!

It's the Big Twin 2 that I use, 2x12. More than enough volume for my needs!!

Whoops, misread! That does look fantastic, would have to be a second-hand option given my budget though!

3. Through various wranglings I've got the opportunity to get a good deal on new GK stuff, and the MB Fusion 500 seems like a great option. My band's recently morphed into a covers act, so versatility and portability are king, but is there anything else I should consider?

Also, are there any particularly good cab pairings for it? Again, weight and portability are an issue, so I was thinking of a pair of 1x12s. Secondhand options from TKS, Barefaced and Aguilar are all on my radar, but does anyone have any experience with the GK Neo 112 ii? They seem popular over on TB, but it's mostly because I can currently get them cheap!

I don't have the opportunity to try before I buy, but I'll have a 30-day money back guarantee. I'd really rather try and get it right first time though.

Any help would be appreciated - an amp upgrade is long overdue!

4. Price drop: Now £475 collected / £500 posted!

Thinking about moving on my 2002 Fender Classic 60s Jazz in Burgundy Mist. As I'm sure you know, these Jazzes are Mexico models with a few classic features - tinted lacquer necks, vintage style frets, period decals, reverse tuners etc.

This colour was a limited run (I remember reading somewhere that only 200 were made), and this one has had a few upgrades. It comes with both ashtrays, the thumbrest below the strings and has had Schaller strap buttons installed.

Condition is pretty good considering it's been gigged. There are a couple of dings and chips on the lower edges, and some notable buckle rash on the back. I've tried to take pictures of these looking at their worst, in the interest of transparency. It's also worth noting that one of the threaded saddles has been replaced with a regular one - this was done before I got the bass, and has never bothered me.

It sounds and plays great, and the electronics work perfectly. The rosewood has been oiled, so looks almost like ebony. I've had many positive comments about it at gigs, both on sound and looks.

I'm looking for [s]£500[/s] £475 no trades on this one I'm afraid.

The bass comes with a gig bag, but I can offer a tatty Gator hard case for an extra cost (it's my only hard case).

I'd much rather meet up or have the buyer collect - I'm based in Southampton, but happy to travel within reason. I can post for £25.

Cheers!

5. NOW SOLD

Very tentative post, this one...

I'm thinking about letting go of my BB5000, simply because it doesn't get the use it deserves. I'm more of a 4-string player, and the 80s-tastic white n' gold look doesn't really fit with my band.

This one was made in Taiwan in 1987, going by the serial number.

The white has aged to a rather lovely cream, which looks incredibly pretty against the ebony fretboard. As far as I'm aware, everything on it is original.

Given this is a near-30 year old bass that's been played, condition is by no means perfect and I hope the pictures reflect that. There's some buckle rash on the back, the hardware is a bit tarnished, and the previous owner decided to fill in a couple of small chips with paint that doesn't quite match (none of which is noticeable from the front).

However, the electronics work perfectly with no hint of scratching, and it produces a hell of a tone. It's incredibly well-built and enjoyable to play, as you'd expect for an 80s BB.

As I say, this is really a feeler for the moment since I love the bass but don't give it the use it deserves. These don't come up for sale often; pricing is difficult but I feel £700 is fair.

I'm very open to trades, preferably with some money heading my way. My amp setup is in need of an upgrade, so I'm particularly interested in good lightweight heads and cabs, maybe a Barefaced Compact or Big Baby. I'd rather not add to the bass flock, but may be swayed by something Fender-shaped, 4-string and passive - worst I can say is no, so try me!

The bass does have a Kinsman semi-soft case, but at this stage I'd rather not post. I'm based in Southampton, but can travel a reasonable way.

Cheers!

6. Hi all,

I've got a bass that's missing a tuner bush/ferrule - it's an 80s Hondo. The other ferrule have a 3/8" internal diameter, and the peg hole is 1/2".

I've tried to find a replacement, but no luck.

I know the peg holes/ferrules on older Squier Affinities (the ones with the closed-backed tuners) are smaller than average - does anyone have one they could measure for me, to see if a set would fit my Hondo?

Any help would be great!

Thanks

7. Here's my PM4 in surf green, which I think is a discontinued colour. Plays beautifully and sits in the mix very nicely indeed!

8. Hi all,

Up for sale is my 2013 Gretsch G5422TDC Electromatic in white with gold hardware.

I've had the guitar since new but have barely played it (I'm just not a guitarist). Subsequently it's in absolutely mint condition, not a scratch on it.

This is one of the Korean Electromatics, and this particular model RRPs at over £800. It feels fantastic to play, with a lovely mellow tone.

Given it's just been sat in it's gig bag (included) since new I feel the price is fair, but feel free to make me an offer! I'm based between Southampton and Portsmouth, but I'm willing to travel within reason.

PRICE DROP: £550
NOW ALSO CONSIDERING TRADES

And now the juicy stuff:

9. I own a Taiwanese BB5000 and I'm keeping a relaxed eye out for a BB1100S. I know Yamaha built these basses in both Japan and Taiwan, but does it make much of a difference which country they come from when it comes to quality / sound / playability?

I'm not bothered about where a bass is made so long as it's a good instrument; I just want to know if it's really worth holding out for a Japanese-made one!
