  1. Hi all,

Hopefully a quick one - I'm looking at buying a fretless VM Jazz (the one I'm eyeing is an earlier Jaco-lookalike with Duncan Designed pickups) to use as a basis for a project.

Are the pickups in these standard sizing, with the bridge pickup being slightly wider than the one at the neck, or are they both neck-width? I've already got the pickups I want to drop in there, so want to make sure they'll fit!

    Cheers

  2. Here are mine -

Brown: '86 MIJ. This one's got a Wizard 84 at the bridge, and the paint had been stripped before it came to me. It's my number one when gigging - it's lovely.

Black: only just picked this up - bista using an S9 neck and an early '70s body (the bridge is mounted further back than usual which I think places it as a '69-'72). The neck's in good shape but the body's lived a life, including having a DiMarzio Ultra J added and the thumbrest moved above the strings late-70s style. It's not quite where I want it to be in how it plays, but it sounds wonderful.

White: largely original '77. I've owned it for about 15 years and will never sell it. Sounds immense and plays well but it's not light!

  3. Hi all,

I recently aqcuired a 70s Precision which has (I think) a DiMarzio Ultra Jazz fitted at the bridge. Each pickup sounds fine individually, but having them both on full makes the E and A strings sound out of phase. D&G both sound as expected, so I'm assuming one half of the P pickup is out of phase with the J pickup.

I've currently got it wired VVT. One weird thing is the out of phase effect is strongest when I have the Jazz on full and the P at about 95% - still only on the E&A with the D&G unaffected.

I've got another P with an added J pickup that doesn't have these issues - any ideas?

    Cheers

    I love that blue.... :)

Thanks - it's Sonic Blue, looks great in the flesh. The previous owner had it refinished in nitro just before selling it to me, I love it.

How does the P pickup sound so close to the bridge on your Rascal bitsa? I've got an old Hondo which has a P pickup in the Stingray position, it sounds huge!

  5. Here's mine - 1988 MIJ Fender jazz body and a 2004 US neck. Most of the hardware and electronics are from my parts bin, but it plays brilliantly! Lowest action of any bass I've had before.

£1200 is a great price for a new bass, but if you are prepared to hold out you can get one for approx £700 second hand.
There is one on here/eBay/Facebook/gumtree in surf green I think in Southampton.

    Sure is, it's mine!

They're really great basses, and to be honest I'm on the verge of keeping mine if it doesn't sell before I move. It's an older one with the 'classic' Fender body shape and Delano pickups (which I agree are more hi-fi than old-school). I've found the P/MM set up sounds something like a ballsy P/J.

I'm guessing the one you played was one of the newer body shapes? I'd love to have a go on one.
