Just been on line ( Bax-shop ) still selling "B"stock 2x10 ................£377 ! ! ! ! ! !!
-
Ive had a pf500 ( about 4 years now ) with no problems . I sold it once ( on here ) only to find that the guy I sold it to said it kept cutting out ! I refunded his money , got the amp back , and I really "pushed " at a volume . NO PROBLEM ! I got it checked out at Polar Audio , who ran it for a whole day , and found no problem . I recon the guy read all the horror stories , and did not want to trust it , so said it was cutting out . Its now used as a back up ( take it everywhere I gig - and had to use it on three occasions when my Peavey T-Max cut out ) Got my T-Max repaired , and sold it on , now got a pf800 as my main head , with no problem .

Well my so called "B" stock 2x10 powerhouse arrived yesterday afternoon . Dont know whats going on , but this is one of the New Version ( 400w , tri-port with different speakers , and a different layout on the back , and a finer grade of covering with no castors , just rubber feet ) Its brand new , no marks anywhere ! Compared the New to the Old , I cannot tell the difference in sound or weight . Went back on to the web page ( Bax-shop ) , and all it said was that the model I ordered is obsolete , But they were still selling a few "B" stock ( £377) when I looked through their site I`m not complaining as I have a new cab ( with cover ) for a stupidly cheap price . Cant wait for tomorrow nights gig , Santa has come early ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Pete

Just got a 2nd hand Messa Boogie powerhouse 2x10 from my local Music shop . £300 ! ( old version 600w ) Used it Sat night with my Ampeg 115 , and a Ampeg pf800 head The Messa Boogie 2x10 is louder and more defined than the Ampeg 115 ! I was so impressed that I searched the internet , and found a B stock one ( some marks on top , scratch on grill ) at £350 , including delivery ( will be here Tuesday ) Will used both on Thu nights gig . They are a bit heavy , but so what , worth it for the sound IMHO. Pete

Just a word ....sorry clarification......regarding 1st class post . I have been reliably informed ( after chasing a package from Coventry to Birmingham ) by the PO , that " NEXT DAY DELIVERY " is only a target they aim for ! Then I ask why do we have to pay extra for it ........NO REPLY ! Sent a small parcel 10:20am on wednesday 09/12/15 - 1st class signed for , to Birmingham ... not received on Thursday , Friday or Saturday - tracking showed it was " in their system ". Buyer received on Monday - tracking still showing " in their system " ! What a farce !

+1 Removed my Gotoh bridge and checked the saddles....................................two grooves in them - one deep and another shallower ! All same - manufacturing fault ? Anyhow , put an original Fender Bridge on , with stainless saddles , great improvement . Have ordered some Brass saddles to try . Pete

Used EXL 170BT for 2 gigs - ok, but not so impressed now D seems to be a bit quiet . I have raised the treble side of the pups a bit , but the G becomes too loud ! Set up I`m using is ..............Ampeg pf 800 into two Ampeg 115 cabs ( modded with neo speakers , and two extra ports - as per celestion handbook ) Pete
-
Put a set of D`Addario EXL170BT on my Jazz prior to rehearsal last night ................balanced volume across strings , feel good , sound good ! (seem VERY easy to play ) I thought the action was high , but when I compared it to my Lakland , it was the same . Looks like I will be moving from Fender to these , but before I do , I will give this set a run for a while . Keep ya posted . Pete
-
Done some messing around with my Jazz .....raised the action a touch , and lowered the pups a touch ( on bottom E side ) also going through my EBS Multicomp .........MUCH better now , but have ordered a set of D`Addario EXL170BT to see the difference with my normal set up . Will keep ya posted .

I get the same problem with the bottom E , using Fender 7250M strings , on my Jazz , Precision and Lakland ( Lakland is active ) . I have used Fender 7250M for years , and always had this problem . But as said above , if you push the mids up a bit , it does help to get rid of the muddy sound .

Hi, I suppose a tapered shim should sit in the neck pocket , but in experience I have never done that , always used a packing piece . You would think you would loose sustain etc , but I have never had a problem . I shim about 1/4 inch wide x whatever thickness for the full width of the pocket ( even rounding the corners so as to fit right back in the pocket ) Pete.
-
Wow , that looks superb . A quality build , and at the first attempt !
-
Added to above................. You must remember that not all parts will just sit in the correct place, for example..................the neck has to be aligned centrally to body . Just by putting the neck in the neck pocket , does not always mean that it is central to the body . What I did , was to drill and fix one of the mounting screws through the neck plate , and tightened up ( so there was still a slight ammount of "swing" movement of the neck relative to body ) Then using a 24inch steel ruler , laying down one side of the neck to the other , I aligned each edge of neck to pup cut outs , and got it central, before carefully turning over and drilling the remaining three . I actually scribed the lines next to the neck pup cut out , for any future removal / re assembly ( these lines are hidden under scratchplate ). Another point to remember is that bridge not only being central but in correct position for the 34inch scale to the saddles , allowing for intonation movement - I also had to shim the neck pocket , with a piece of .010 thick ash, to get the angle of strings relative to body for a good action . But as I said before ..............THINK THINGS THROUGH - MEASURE AND ALIGN , MEASURE AND ALIGN , MEASURE AND ALIGN before drilling ! Its really enjoyable to see the bass taking shape . Any questions , just ask me Pete

Hi Guys, Body and neck from Nortwest Guitars , Gotoh bridge , one old Jazz pup at neck , one Tonerider at bridge ( awaiting a matched pair from a 2001 jazz to arrive ) Wilkinson m/c heads . Most parts from ebay , some from bits lying around . Transfer from ebay ( the most difficult bit - had to take a lot of time with this - then 5/6 coats laq - now awaiting small "ASSEMBLED IN COVENTRY " transfer to go on back of headstock ! As long as you "TAKE TIME " to ensure and align parts before drilling , its great fun . And you end up with something that you assembled yourself , to whatever spec you want Pete.
