1. I've thought about the ibanez bass, but was put off by the basswood body! plus its active, with humbuckers!! i want jazz pickups and passive controls, ala jaco! the squier is nice, but i just cant get round the idea of signature instruments. i dont want to buy a cheap copy of the jaco custom shop! when i turn up to gigs i dont want people thinking i wanna be jaco or even a budget version of him. i'm really opinionated on gear, but i'm loving the ideas you are throwing my way. keep them coming. think its still gonna be the cij fender, as nothing i can find matches the specs for the price! plus it will be martins defretting work, so it would be worth much more!!!
2. hopefully i will have enough monies saved up by christmas to buy myself a little treat. I need a fretless bass badly, i owned a sandberg 6 string which is one of the best out there but had to sell it to fund myself in college! kept my head down and i've got about £400 to spend on a fretless. i really wanna an all passive jazz bass pref 5 strings. i've been thinking about getting a cij and getting martin at the gallery to defret it for me. but it all seems like alot of trouble for just a simple bass! any recomendations from you guys???
3. i would say just for practice there is nothing really better than the mini peavey combos, IMHO. I never touch the eq, if anything i try to make my bass sound as nasty as possible because i want to hear all the noise and fluff from my playing. and remember practice is for practice, working on new stuff etc. if you can get your hands to "sound" how you like them without eq then your 2 steps closer to your tone heaven.
4. i try never to play the same thing, truth be told i use to always warm up with a few licks, but i'm trying to drag my music away from repetition!! today i just play how i feel, ie slam my hand on the fretboard to find a random key and work around it with current harmony ideas and moods!!! today was a manic slap pattern in c minor!!
5.
Guys - I was going to just get as many people as possible to meet up for a few pints in Bristol when I get down there (will be there permanently from 30th November and most weekends from Friday onwards). Don't worry about getting all gear and so on sorted until a basschat bash is due; best off just meeting up for a brew and talking about the gear we'll all bring to the next bash
i'm in
6.
Yeah - sorry about that. A proper South West bass bash would be great if 'someone' can find a bass friendly venue and we have enough confirmed attendees to pay for the bugger. Any ideas?
i think it would be a good idea. maybe find somewhere with an open mic night, so if peeps wanna jam they can!
7. didn't realise so many people from the mighty bristle were about on this site!! good to see peeps keeping it low!!
8. Hi guys I need to get rid of my monster warwick cabinets, am moving into a new flat with my girlfriend and there is little room for gear. plus i rarely use them now i am sessioning and not touring. I have one warwick 4x10 411 pro cab (which is german made and come with a tweeter!) and one warwick 1x15 115 pro cab (which is also german made.) I am looking for roughly £250 for the 4x10 and £200 for the 1x15. these are in A1 condition and the 1x15 has never ever been gigged!!! i will sell both for £400! reasonable travel is included in the price, can go most places in uk from bristol. I am willing to trade! I am after a second hand fender (pref CIJ or MIA), but open to anything at the moment. been lusting over a 1969 gibson eb-3 recently, but not many people will wanna know! hope somebody out there is interested in these lovely cabinets, they really do kick arse!!! much better than any current warwick cab (apart from jonas signatures) PM me Peace
