1. Check out Marcus Miller doing "What Is Hip?"

Obviously, he's damned good at it, but the one thing this shows is basically, the majority of the rhythm is on one note, so keep practising without trying to do too much melody to start with.

2. I was diagnosed a few years ago. As has been pointed out, there really isn't a cure for it, so it really is a mental thing to try and block it out/ignore it.

I've found now that the only times I really notice it, is when I'm in a virtually silent environment, or when I'm actually talking to somebody about it, as it then becomes a focal point.

It came from years of having a drummer down my right ear, but I don't play in a loud environment any more.

I did struggle to sleep because of it initially, but I have a radio on quiet all night now, and it very rarely causes me any problems. The worst was trying to have an hour's kip on a motorway services on a long overnight drive. Pulled into a dark corner of the car park, settled down, but the silence just exacerbated the tinnitus. Had no sleep whatsoever. Since then, I just find it easier to have a driving partner, and sleep while they drive.

3. A friend of a friend on Twitter is looking for a fiddler.

This is her twitter post:
"I am looking for a lively fiddler or acoustic guitarist, small wedding reception, Sun 6 May. Small budget or swap for publicity photography."

Feel free to contact me if you're not on Twitter and I'll put you in contact with her, or contact her directly on Twitter @Andreamichele1

Cheers

4. Bought some pups from Pete.

Great guy to deal with, great communications.

And even arrived without me knowing (due to the wife not telling me til the day after!) :D

Would definitely recommend to anyone.

5. Cheers Stuart.

Had our last pre-gig rehearsal last night. Can't wait now. Rehearsing's one thing, gigging is completely different. :D

Where are you playing?

7. I've found the drive home incredibly calming sometimes, and some of the best music can be found on the radio at post-gig time.

I used to love catching Mark Lamarr's radio show when he used to play a vast array of his music collection.

Also a great time to stick some classical music on and just chill all the way home.

8. There was a time these would've gone at a heartbeat (including wanting one myself).

Shows what times we are currently living in. *Gets down off soapbox*.

Don't suppose you'd be interested in a trade for either a MultiDrive, UniChorus or OctaBass (all non true bypass)?

9. Can't disagree with any of the above.

I used to have a 90s Thumb 5NT which was a beautiful bass, but because of the small body shape and the long neck, it did feel slightly neck heavy and not one for people with short arms.

I also used to own a 4 string Streamer Stage 1. The balance of it was definitely better, and it would've been good to have been able to do a closer comparison with the Thumb had it been a 5 string.

The sound of the Thumb is definitely the Warwick sound, but the Streamer was a far more versatile bass due to the P/J pickup configuration.

As everyone has said above, I would spend time trying out a few different models for yourself before committing to buying one that you end up not being particularly happy with.

If I was going to buy one now, I personally would buy a 5 string Streamer.....as it's more suitable for what I would use it for. BUT if I had the cash and it was available, I'd buy my old Thumb back at a second's notice.
