And when you break one at a gig you will have to put up with one string being brighter - which no one else will notice - because you won't have time to change the full set.

The alternative to a spare set of strings is a spare bass.
I used to break strings regularly at gigs. I always keep a used set of strings as a backup set. If I broke one live I had a set already stretched, cut to length and not too bright sounding. Could change it in seconds. :)

St Austell ... the West Bromwich of Cornwall. :) I will be down for a pub lunch in the Galleon in Fowey during August sometime.

All the best.
The West Bromwich of Cornwall you say?

You have me at a disadvantage as I am unfamiliar with West Bromwich. :D
I shall assume that you are deeply jealous and would like to live here also. :)

me? I think its pretty rubbish here, but its home.

I do like the Galleon in Fowey.

You are, I assume, the Dean that used to play with Chris C., Richard etc? I briefly attempted, unsuccessfully, to fill your shoes many years ago. Sadly, I was nowhere near as good. I also stopped playing, for about 15 years, until I started again 5 years ago. Welcome, also from St. Austell. I've been around here for a few years now, it's been invaluable. Beware the For sale section.
hi, yes, you are correct, I am that same Dean.

Have we met? If so I apologise for not knowing who you are at the moment.
If not, then hi.

I have been window shopping in the for sale section already and could easily spend a small fortune in there.

4.
Welcome aboard :)

Now you are here, your list of new equipment can grow longer :)
No new gear for me, until I have done a few gigs ----
Though I would love a Sadowsky bass!!
And I miss my Hartke 4X10" cabinet.
That new Ashdown Mi Bass looks nice.

I see what you guys mean!

5. I agree with ironside1966, every situation is different.

What size bass bins are you using?
How much power is driving them?
Are you using an active crossover?
What about mid range speakers and crossovers?

This may all have an effect of how the kick and bass eq affects the sound of the band.

6.
Welcome.......I was in Newquay a couple of times mid late 90's......I saw 2 bands that spring to mind, Rootjoose was one and the other was a solo guy with backing tracks , Al Hodge sadly passed away I understand ....some sound for a one man band !!
Rootjoose were a band I knew very well a few years ago. My old band used to share gigs with them often. Harry the bass player from Rootjoose has had fame in the band Kubb, check them out. Nice chap.
Al Hodge was an awesome musician and lovely bloke. Bodmin town has its own annual festival called Alstock to remember Al Hodge.

Good memories.

7. Hi, thought I had better introduce myself.

I have been playing bass since I was 15 and have about 20 years of gigging around Cornwall since then in various bands.

After a small break of five years I am back in a gigging band and looking forward to whatever the future may bring.

I have to wear ear plugs now which sucks.

Todays equipment was bought in a rush on a very small budget.

Squire Jazz bass and a Trace Elliot 4x10" combo. (looking for a Sadowsky di pedal if anyone has one lying around)

Past gear(all gone now):

Fender MIA '62 re issue Jazz with sadowsky eq + hipshot D tuner.
Musicman Stingray 5
Musicman Stingray 4
Warwick thumb, bolt on neck
Yamaha BB1100s
Westone fretless
Hohner steinberger copy, (nasty bass!)
Squier fretless
Aria acoustic bass
Hohner acoustic bass

Hartke 300 watt amp and 4X10" cabinet
Various small Trace Elliot rigs
Peavey combo 1x15"
Peavey bi-amp set up 1x15" 300watt + 2x10" 150watt

There you go, thats me. Gimmie a shout if you like.

Dean.
