I'm so fed up wrestling with my phone. Turns out Android as yet has no means to control the gain of the microphone in your phone and so any app I've tried ends up being horribly distorted unless you stick the phone under a cushion or something. And even then it's a bit clippy. Gah!

We're trying to get some new songs together and not everyone can be at every jam at the moment. All I want to do is record us practising/jamming for future reference/keeping people up to speed with developments. Not looking for release quality stuff. Not looking for an iPhone (which I know is particularly good at this).

I have a camcorder which records pretty good, but it seems like a sledgehammer to crack a nut when all I want is the audio. Anyone recommend a device out there that isn't too dear? The Zoom H1 looks interesting.

All I want is to quickly and simply record listenable, clipping free audio. Is that so much to ask?

I'd like to re-emphasise that until Google sort Android out to give manual gain control over the microphone, it will be completely useless for this activity.

I remember a few years ago I ordered something from Axesrus - something small like a switch. It never arrived. When I told them it hadn't arrived they sent a replacement, no grumbles, no questions asked.

Months later, the original one finally appeared. Queue much puzzlement from me. I did the right thing and offered to send the delayed one back but they just told me to keep it.

I can't think of a time when I haven't got stuff next day when ordered early enough the day before. Free postage too. Great service, my go-to place for little nick nacks like screws, switches etc.

I have an IV and it's a really nice bass - sort of like a Thunderbird in a sensible body shape. Mahogany body and neck, but set neck, not through neck.

Sorry, but what is your point? Of course if things took a turn for the worst and it was the choice of basses and the roof over our heads the basses would go. Isn't that completely obvious?

If you want more basses then go find a way to make it happen instead of bitching on here about it in some sort of attempt to make me feel guilty for any success that I have worked hard to achieve.

Yeah, I talk about it from time to time. I have a bass in my office for lunchtime practices. No big deal.

I'm not some rich toff! I happen to live in a two income household. No kids and no other hobbies to speak of. Don't smoke and don't drink half as much as I used to.

Also, my collection has evolved over 5 years. I didn't just go out and buy these basses in a big burp of inconceivable expenditure. It's trading - once you have a bass you have an asset that you can put against something else. If the thing you want is more expensive, you only have to find the difference. I've probably sold around 20 basses to get to where I am now.

I believe I did throw some Hipshot Ultralites on it at some point. Probably a pointless exercise when a wide, grippy strap ought to keep things in order.

Yes, I've done it. Yes, I recommend it, if only because doing anything else will require surgery of some sort.

These are great wee things, I use mine a great deal. Good for headphone practice even if you don't use the tempo/pitch/bass cut or boost features.

I wouldn't know, I can't/don't/won't slap

I would guess it's possible, there's plenty room between the neck pickup and the end of the fingerboard to get underneath, unlike most EB/SG basses.

Don't use Yodel - they managed to bust the tweeter right out of a 4x10 they kicked up the road to me. Took months to get compensation out of them too. Gits all round.

Ouch, £600 seems a bit steep. A quick search reveals that you can get one from Germany for €500. And we're all one happy European Union after all, so no tax to worry about.

You shouldn't have any worries with a G&L Tribute. I have a Tribute L-2000 and it's a fantastic bass. I don't feel like I'm missing out on much versus a USA G&L, and I have had a go of one. Yes it had a fancy flamed top, but it didn't feel that much "better" than my Tribute. Tuners were probably screwed on 100% straight on the USA one

I wasn't going to say any more on the subject, but the overriding feeling I'm getting from this thread is that I'm somehow wrong for wishing to sell items in a way that's comfortable for me and I feel compelled to clarify my position.

I list it for sale. If it doesn't sell for a while then I'll take down the price a bit or I'll keep the item. But I'll decide when that happens. It's still my item, it's still my sale. It's on sale for what it's worth to me, informed by having done some research into recent sales etc.. If that's not compatible with the market's opinion of what the item is worth (and I'm capable of counting my own tumbleweed, thanks) then I'll deal with it in my own way.

What's wrong with that? Not everyone's up for a bit of wheeling and dealing, not everyone is comfortable with it. OK, maybe I'm a bit of a control freak, but I'm not an ogre, I'm not an unreasonable person, nor am I difficult to deal with, as my feedback thread will attest to. I've clearly managed to sell stuff using this approach at mutually agreeable prices.

Given all the above, low offers bug me when I've put the effort in to price things reasonably to begin with. It's irritating, that's all. Usually I will reply with a reiteration of the price and its firmness, sometimes citing the research that has led me to the amount I am asking for. Often this is accepted with good grace and we continue from there. There may be varying degrees of detectable irritability in this communication, and I apologise for any I have communicated, and for any I will communicate in the future.
