  1. Hello to all.

I contacted Sandberg about special order of 5 string short or mediım scale and the answer I got is that they can build 32.5" 5 stringer. Has anybody specially ordered or already has a 5 string short or medium scale from Sandberg? I may ask a few questions about the process.

    Cheers

  2. I bought a bass from Brian. He is great to deal with. He was kind enough to think about the taxes and finding the solution. The bass arrived very well from a looong way and in as described condition. Very stable and sturdily packed. I am sure I will have more deals with Brian in the future. Highly recommended.

    Thanks again Brian. Cheers.

    What am I missing?

    In production:

    Spector Bantam 5

MTD Kingston LK 4 and 5

    MTD USA LK 4 and 5 (532)

All over the price range I guess

I believe you can find in your price range.

I messaged Mark @ Bass Direct about them a few weeks ago and he said they would be £949. Assume that is the four string version.

MTD listed them as (MAP) $979 for 4 strings and $999 for 5 strings. I assume 5 strings won't be more than £1000 at Bass Direct. Sounds fair for what it is. Please let me know when you have chance to try and good luck with the search.

Any info about when they will be in stock?

The MTD is a LK signature Kingston model. I'm looking forward to them appearing at BD.

I can guess that they will be great if they are half as good as the US LK model. They are not listed on MTD's website either yet but they appear in the price list and they don't seem to be too expensive. US prices though.

I know MTD are bringing one out but not sure when it will be available in the UK.

I too look forward to try one of these. Bass direct listed as "coming soon" but it's been some time. I am talking about Kingston model.

I bought an Ibanez Mezzo 5 String, which is astonishing and I wouldn't object to getting another.

I have one of these and they are very good for the money.

I also have US made MTD Lynn Keller Signature (532) and it is great in every way. Just too valuable for me to play at every gig so I bought the Ibanez Mezzo 5. No anxiety 😁

I think I saw a Mensinger 5 string at bass direct and I saw that Wilcock is making 32" 5 string as well as an Italian brand called Biarnel. Maruszczyk may have some too.

  7. I am looking to trade with Fender Road Worn (3TS), Yamaha BB735A (Black), Ibanez SR2605 + cash my way but I may consider other trade or sensible cash offers.

I can also add some cash so feel free to offer trade with more expensive basses.

Ultimate swiss army knife of basses. With ballsy sound you will love.

Thanks for the nice words. It is indeed a nice looking, great sounding and versatile bass.

  9. Price dropped to £1450

I am open to sensible cash and trade offers.

It is sad to see this beauty go but it is even worse to see it sitting in it's case not played. It is in very good condition. Very versatile due to 3 pickups and 4 band EQ.

The bass is located in Cyprus. Shipping is included.

Please check my feedback thread here:

  10. I am still using my lightweight Barefaced cabs but I have gone to heavyweight for the head. I have owned TC electronic, Carvin, and Markbass lightweight heads but I always wanted to have Eden WT and tried one last year. Now I am using Eden wt550, wt800 regularly and Ashdown Klystron heads with my lightweight cabs. Don't have any lightweight head at the moment.
Only if I can find a lightweight head that can give Eden WT sound.

I can't offer a direct P pickup comparison, but my Jake has the Delanos, and while with the tone rolled off it nails the P tone IMO, it's pretty aggressive. Dial the tone back in and it growls beautifully, so that's probably not what you're after. Output is massive, my Elwood has the Haussels through a glock preamp, and the output from my passive Jake is much more brutal, add in the Humbucker I have in the bridge and it's pure rawk (which is not what I do, but it's nice to have... gotta keep these folky/country types on their toes!).

I can't speak for the Haussel P type pickup, but I find the J types pretty authentic, warm and vintagey, what I'd expect from a jazz. If that extends across their range it might be an option. I'm sure Adrian could advise.

Playability wise, I had a Lakland 55-01 alongside my Elwood and found the Elwood much easier to get around on, Some of this would be down to losing an inch off the scale length, as I spend a the bulk of my time at the deep end, the profiles are very similar. I sold it when I ordered the Jake. I'd previously played a standard Jake, and got on with it fine so that's what I went with for mine. It's maybe slightly deeper than the Lakland, but feels more rounded somehow as you move up the neck where the Lakland flattens off more, dead easy to play and certainly not what I'd call big. Compared to the few Fender's I've played, there's much less wood, and the gentler radius and rounded heel makes all the difference to me. I'm no expert on Fenders mind, I've never lived with one, so my experience is limited to little jams on other people's instruments, but they feel a bit primitive to me, and I don't get that from the Jake.

Just as a caveat, I'm talking about 5 strings here. The only Jake 4 I've ever had a little play on was Sibob's Beautiful gold, chambered beastie, at last years Herts Bash. That was a lovely instrument to play too.

Thanks for the input NickD. It is very informative and helpful.

I think the series I TRB GCYPbass details above is a TRB 'P' (with piezo).

True. Completely forgot about the series I with soapbars. Edited ;)
