  1. Just tweaked again, managed to reduce the apparent signal drop (measured via my ashdown compressor VU meter) to about 25-35%. I am not sure how more I can gain (no pun intended)! It is not something as straightforward as power distribution across the different frequency domains?
  2. Hey guys I know this topic is a little old, but here goes... I have just bought a BB1024X from a fab shop (bass direct in warwick), thro a genz benz streamliner 600 and 2 10 cab, it sounds awesome. Now when I play anything on the D or G string, they sound so much quieter than does the A or E. I did a quick calculation and estimate a 60% drop compared to the E and A string, irrespective of the fret position. I have tried adjusting the pickup height and string height to increase the gain, but ended up with fret buzz and shortened sustain due to pull of the magneti the pick-up. Any suggestions would be most welcome Thanks Chris
  3. Hi folks I have a mk2 superbass 100 W head and a 4 x 12 1935 cabinet. When I play at reasonable volume (to keep up with the drummer) I have noticed that I get a peculiar 'farting' noise from the cab. I suspect that the amp is clipping; It only occurs when I drop the E to D. I am playing a ricky 4003, occasional compressor/expander - and am after a deep percussive sound, as I am in a three piece band and need the ricky to be in full song across all frequencies....... Cheers Chris
  4. Hi Guys I just got a marshall mark 2 superbass and 4x12 1935 cab - I have noticed it clipping when a turn it to practice volume (i.e. to keep up with the drummer!) and when I drop the E to D. I have tried the cab with another amp and it works fine..... Any thoughts or suggestions would be most helpfull Cheers Chris
  5. Hi Guys I have a 'new', 1935 4 12 marshall bass cab, it needed some work to replace a celestion GT12-75 guitar speaker with an eminence beta 12; now I am using a Mk2 superbass head, a few effects (compressor etc); I have noticed that at practice volume (i.e to keep up with the drummer) when I drop the E to D, I get a 'farting' noise - Am I clipping the speaker, and what do you think the solution is? I have rewired the cab to 16 ohms, and rewired the cab with better quality wire and fittings. Any thoughts??? Chris

  7. Hi folks I'm new to the forum, currently listening to Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden's new album. My gear is Ricky 4003 with Bartoloni pickups, various effects (chorus, compressor/limiter, digital delay, octaver); Peavey Black Widow 300 15 inch; Ashdown electric blue. I am on the lookout for an Orange Bass terror and Peavey 412 TVX if anyone is interested in selling???? I play in a three piece rock/blues band, a mixture of our own material and covers (think anything from Bill Hailey to Motorhead, Hendrix to free) We are playing at the Romany inn in Bampton, Oxfordshire on sat 3rd september if anyone is in the area with nothing else to do! Drop me a line Cheers Chris
