1.
Finally got back from seeing Richard Bona at the Barbican (he made me cry again!). Arrived back from Moffat Sunday evening and was straight down to London 1st thing Monday morning so it's been a busy few days.

Had a great time Saturday and Sunday; met some great people (that's everybody!) and played some great basses. I'd like to give a big thanks to Dave and Stu for getting me there and back and keeping me entertained, and to Alan for providing the single most humiliating experience of my adult life (good deeds definitely don't go unpunished eh Alan?? I've never played solo bass in front of an audience in my entire life!!!!! :) ). Also a huge thanks to Peter who is not only a gent of the absolute highest order but also gave me 2 batteries to get my Sei 5 up and running after a battery meltdown.

The one thing that surprised me the most was how the alloted time was nowhere near enough; I hardly got through any of the gear at all. Of the stuff I played I loved Dave's ACG and Peter's too (although Peter's action was rather too high for me to get anything sensible out of; I have a girl's action on my basses ). Cameron's W&T was stunning, although I sadly didn't get round to plugging it in. Rich's sea green P was a thing of beauty......in fact there was some lovely kit, too much too mention or try. It knows who it is!
You were more than up to the job. But I promise not to do it again I was only following orders.

  2. That rig in the last pic was a beauty,if I did not have the Dr Bass and the F500 I would be off buying that it was the stand out rig for me on the day.

Kev it is a secret which is only divulged when you get the special handshake. Failing that a map would work :)

  3. Paul was also bass bitch for about half an hour as we made him try out various amp/cab combos while we all sat and listened to the results. Very nice player indeed and a tough gig in front of the bass playing audience but he sailed through the audition.

  4. Like to say thanks to everyone for an excellent weekend I really enjoyed the whole bash. I think the numbers were spot on for the venue so I doubt I will increase them above 30 people in total.

Like to thank Dave Perry and Peter over and above for their help through out the organising of the bash made life a lot easier. Met a lot of great guys and players put names to a lot of faces finally met Joe so it was all good.

Best selection of basses I have ever seen in one place some really beauties and impossible to pick a favourite. A great array of rigs but for me Nice Guy Homer's Aguilar head was my favourite some excellent driven sounds from it.

    Cheers
    Alan

It will be a good night. Let me know as soon as you can so I can sort it out with the hotel.

Would that be on the Saturday.

  7. Don't think you can really say to much in that department. You looked a bit fragile on the Sunday morning.

Still looking for 3 more bodies. This is the best chance to try out high end basses and amps in this part of the world surely there are a few Scottish bass players that would be interested.

  8. Hi
I have put together a small bash taking place in Moffat on the weekend 31st/1st Oct/Nov.

Limited places available with B&B sorted out at £30.00 for the Saturday night. Also going out for a curry on the Saturday night everyone will be paying the same. Bash in the local theatre on the Sunday.

I have 6 places left if anyone is interested.

    Cheers
    Alan

  9. Could you please explain that. What is the difference between EQ'ing something and colouring the sound.

This is not a smart arse reply I really want to know how you define the difference. I have always regarded EQ'ing something as colouring the sound and also thought that was the purpose of using a pre-amp.

  10.
I have an ACG with an ACG preamp already! And to tell the truth, the preamp is one of the reasons I rarely play it, although I may take it to next practice to give it another go.

The pickups in the Shuker that I want are the Delano JMVC 4 FE/M2, which I think are what is in my Sandberg.
Quiet happy to swap out the pre-amp for an East unit if you want something more familiar. An East U Retro should fit in the bass.
