You should DEFO check out Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns. They're primarily a club band in vegas and aren't strictly a 'latin' band but there's definitely a latin tinge to everything they play.

Yaaas! Another Lettuce convert! I saw them in New York in 2008 on a boat that did a tour up the hudson and round the statue of liberty, one of the best nights of my life! Get the live in tokyo album, i know it's like £20 odd quid but it's sooo worth it.

Yeah i think he's great, a friend and I saw them a few months back in Glasgow and the kicked ass! Got chatting to John and the drummer outside the gig too, cool guys!

Thanks very much Nathan!! We were lucky enough to put together a band of musicians who were all really into learning this kinda music. Like you say there aren't many musicians never mind bands who are doing this kind of material but it's definitely been worth the effort!

Hey folks, here as promised is a little medley from my last gig. We go under the banner Roots Revisited and we put on a night where we covered live versions of Jill Scott and Erykah Badu tunes. It was a great learning experience in so many ways: putting together and rehearsing an 11 piece band, working out a whole heap of material by ear, trying to nail not only parts but the style as well etc etc...
Anyways, here it is, let me know what you think:

Hi Craig,
wow! Thanks a lot for your post! Would never have thought that video would work its way back to the band! I have their double live album and was blown away by the level of musicianship present in what we would call a 'club' or 'cabaret' band! If only the UK had a scene like they have in the US or Australia...
So how do you know the guys in the band? I'll get onto transcribing the rest of the tune asap....maybe not note for note but as close as I can!

Here's the fruits of my afternoons practice! It's just the intro for now but hopefully get the rest of the tune down soon too. It's called 'San Diego' and is from a live album by and incredible Las Vegas club band called Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns. They do an outrageous Earth Wind and Fire medley too...
Anyways, hope you like it, I know it's short but took me a few hours to even get this far!

Just found a live video of them playing it!!

Yeah it was that very same gig! My mates band were supporting and actually did a coupla Lettuce tunes too. We're gonna do a couple more gigs before moving on to something else....
The Lettuce live in Tokyo album is amazing, they've taken all the old skool stuff that's been listed here and propelled it into the 21st century.
