  1. This is a difficult post for me to write as I truly adore this bass rig! However, I am moving to live in Australia for a year and I'm gonna need a rig when I get there so this has to go to fund a purchase down under.
These items really don't need much explaining but here goes....
Aguilar DB750 - All valve bass head with nearly 1000watts at 2ohms. Immense power and tone that just envelopes you. Been serviced regularly by Flynn Amps in Glasgow. Will come with 1 very high quality Klotz Speakon cable.
Epifani UL410 - I've never heard so much sub come from a 410. It's light enough to be a one man lift as well. It's 4ohm so really likes being driven buy a powerful amp like the Aguilar. It has managed to fill every venue I've gigged with it. Will come with one very high quality Klotz speakon cable.
Korg Rack tuner and Aguilar Rack Bag case will be included in the sale of the Aguilar unless someone desperately wants them separately.
I am looking for £1400 for the pair or £450 for the epifani and £950 for the Aguilar ONO
I WILL NOT SHIP! Collection from Glasgow OR willing to drive to northern England and most places in Scotland to complete the deal.

Also, I need this to sell before next saturday!!!

  2. I know ur pain! I got up for a jazz jam on monday night and used the guys own bass, a fender jazz with double bass like action and massive guage. We were really going for it and I ended up with a blood blister on my finger, unfortunately I had 2 rehearsals and 3 gigs this week! I burst it that same night, best thing to do, let it dry out and form some new hard skin over the top of it as quickly as possible. I just turned my amp louder than usual and used a lighter touch than normal to prevent further damage...might be an option that I continue to use actiually!

How about a 'bass related injuries with pics' style thread?!
    :)

  3. Some helpful criticism:
Practice more, you guys sound very sloppy in places.
If you are going to cover a song like Valerie, it's probably best not to mess with the original version too much as this is what people at functions expect, the Amy Winehouse intro is instantly recognisable whereas yours sounds like the Rolling Stones...
Get your guitarists to invest in some tuners, Ruby is particularly bad.
Get your drummer to invest in a metronome, his timing is suspect, highlighted at the start of Honky Tonk and sex on fire.
Please don't take offence at these observations, you posted here asking for some thoughts and these are mine, however I wouldn't be surprised if I was the only one with such thoughts ie the people looking to book you. If you are marketing yourself as a functions/party band you are up against some pretty stiff competition and people have the luxury of shopping around on the internet and comparing bands now so whatever you put out there has to be top notch.
Basically, I think you guys need a bit more individual and group rehearsal, possibly some better gear (drummers cymbals sound a bit cheap) and realistic expectations of what the band is capable of achieving.

On the plus side, female singer sounds nice and bass is nice and thick!

  4. Hey kids,
Me and too mates are flying down to London tomorrow (hopefully!!) to see the Larry Graham gig at koko. Just wondering how many other basschatters are attending? In fact, if I was a mod I think I would make it mandatory for all members!
    Hehe
    POW!!!!!

  5. Hi Garry
Thanks for taking the time to listen and posting some feedback! Yeah I think I will add more stuff to it, maybe break out the old g****r for some chords and change up the drums a bit. Like i say, it was just a wee two hour experiment. I love my Avalon too...it's hard to define what it is exactly, but everytime I use it to record bass it just sounds great. I'm gonna attempt to put a solo on it too....!
    cheers

    [quote name='lowdown' post='814685' date='Apr 22 2010, 09:40 AM']Hi Craig,

    Basses sound great,
I have a Avalon and love it to bits.

On the song side [ good choice]
Why dont you add some light chords/synth pads and a bit of auxilary percussion, building as you go along.
That way it would not sound relentless, it would be a way of holding attention.
Sorry not trying to be critical, just a bit of input. :)

    Good one
