Amazing isn`t it, "it always happens", so instead of sorting things so that it doesn`t, they try and remove the Sat option. Still, I suppose seeing as the only option - as far as I know - is Parcelforce receiving it from Customs, they have the monopoly/no competition, so no incentive to help the customer.

what monopoly? there are loads of delivery companies available - guess it depends on who the US delivery company use as their partners overseas - some of the larger ones dont even go outside their own - i know personally that if you fedex a parcel in London to NYC it goes fedex all the way - had i used UKMail then not sure who would have delivered it in NYC :)

By the looks of the list of amps being brought ear plugs may be the order of the day...

if last year is anything to go by then ear plugs should be handed out at the entrance like a big bowl of sweeties :gas:

was a fund day out but certainly was not enjoying the drive home back around the m25 with a thumping headache

Teaching analog recording to modern students may seem a bit anachronistic, but the quality is undeniable, even when compared with Protools HDx through the Apogee Symphony AD's. The CLASP system just keeps it very modern and useful. I still love the sound of drums and bass off 2" 30ips tape. (yeah 15ips is cool too, and Clive will tell you 8 track 2" is the bomb).

Our keys is 19 and is a student at SAE so he found the old school analogue experience very interesting too

This is a fantastic thread that goes someway to answer your question (or not):

    http://basschat.co.u...he-price-basses

Cheap is a difficult quality/quantity to define.

    I've gigged a £400 bass for ten years. Is £400 cheap? £40 a year, maybe £2-£3 a gig?

    Don't know.
that would make bobby vega's J worth about 3p per gig :gas:

  5. here is my main gigging bass - it comes out with the intention of being the back up to my status, but more often than not it's the status which stays in the bag

pre-loved squier affinity 140 from t'local music emporium - sounded fine just stock but now it has wizard hammers the status doesnt stand a chance tbh

  6. why do you want to stretch your fingers? i swear if we had twelve fingers on each hand you would get people arguing that you should keep your hand fixed in one position to play one whole octave :gas: :P

looking at my own style the wrist is fairly 'fixed' in position, but not inflexible, and to compensate for not being either able or wishing to play one finger per fret down the low end, i prefer to slide my whole hand in position to make the fingers fit the frets (thus the movement is accomodated by allowing shoulder/elbow to move freely)

the frets dont move but your arm does! - take your fingers to the frets, not the other way round, it's a lot less hassle

    :)

24 tracks across 1" of tape. Thats a narrow track width and not much better than compact cassette!

agreed but then Ranscombe have purposely stayed analogue - im sure there are plenty of vst plugins to simulate all manner of old school analogue rack mount studio effects but then you wouldnt be able to have fun like this :D

  8. Studio day today 930 start finished by 630 - brief to our producer was to keep as spontaneous and live sounding as possible so we have a reasonable facsimile of what we sound like on stage for our punters and would be bookers to listen to samples on our website - not too shabby for 8 tracks single takes in 9 hours

All recorded live one take with vocals and back vocals following and then expertly mixed by Jim Riley at Ranscombe Studios

Unfortunately the power supply on my bass pod died so i had to make do without the nice cab modelling

    tracks on soundcloud

    thanks :)

  9. to a degree i guess it depends on how well the music scene in felixstowe is thriving and how well the local education authority promote music in schools ?

here in Medway we have had an art college for many decades now which is a big driver of young local originals bands and more recently also universities bringing even more students/music in to the area

a decent local music shop is also a good stimulus - we are fortunate enough to have Manny's Music in chatham which is currently stocking more vinyl than CD's (and selling very well) and also stocks a good range of affordable guitars basses acoustics amps and effects and also acts as a sort of drop in hub for all the local bands

the only downside is Medway Council seem to blazing a trail for councils everywhere in regard to noise abatement orders targetted at long standing well established live music venues :(
