1. I've got a German '05 Streamer Stage 1, J/P setup. Only had it about 3 months and I'm loving it. I had an '05 Corvette before. It was passive and the body wasn't shaped like the Streamer. The streamer is so far ahead!

I've also seen the Rockbass models. The bodies are flat and really much "cheaper" to look at. I know the ache to get your hands on one, but it you can, try to pick up a s/hand "real" Streamer.

BTW there's a corvette here for sale:

and another... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/197115-fs-warwick-fortress-1995-honey-violin-new-condition/

HOORAYYY!!!! Thank you SOOO much!! You've just sold this book to me by this one fact.
I've been using a few books and keep finding the same problem... I can't ignore the tabs.

Most recently I've been using Stuart Clayton's Crash Bass course. Yesterday I was playing:

0 0, change string, 3 2, change string, 0 0.....
I then got to feel like floging the F***g bass. What's the point of playing by numbers. I don't even know what notes I'm playing!
OK the staves are there, but my eyes go straight to the tabs and I've stopped learning the fretboard! IMHO if you don't know the notes you're playing then you can't rally play the instrument, and you're no musician.

3. I'm sure the Bass Show management would be pleased if you were to call up one of your, more qualified, contacts and get them to go and do a masterclass at the "reasonable rates" that I expect they're able to pay on this gig.

Have you considered how many folk they have on their list who when called will turn it down?

Maybe you should start lampooning all the bigger names for repeatedly turning it down.

You can't. You can however do what Johnston did and delete all your posts one by one to prove a point

So far, I have learned that at least three of my most treasured basses are really ugly and horrible and so on. :(
Each to their own... I'm not too keen on basses with a neck that looks like a zither (6+ stings), but you have to admire what Anthony Wellington can do with one.

Warwick SSI, those things are hideous....;-)

Yeah I know what you mean. They're so wicked they should all be banned :P

Ibanez Ergodyne basses - I imagine some ex employee spiked the water supply with LSD...

Hey! I'm doing well here! :D

7. To the OP:
According the Victor Wooten, the exact notes you play are less important than the keeping of the groove. Any "wrong note" is only a half-tone away from a correct note, so a simple slide of 1 fret will take you back to being in the "right" place. Besides, how many times do you see a sheet music score in "C", but in there, you find a few sharps or flats in the score?

I think the reality is we can't answer this without hearing if you kept the groove and did your playing flow with the others?
If they've asked you back they're either desperate or you're not bad.

I'd say you should enjoy the moment and don't worry about your "classifiaction" just keep on working at it and get better.

Keep on rockin!!

8. I recon there's a chance you're thinking the job is simpler than it really is. This is a job calling for some precision cutting and fitting of the frets. If it's done badly you'll never be able to get/do a good setup ever again.
I'd pay the man for a good job, or buy a good bass that meets the need. A cheap job will probably only end in tears - "you pay peanuts; you get monkeys"

9. I had a passive Ibanez with a 3 way Eq. I thought I wouldn't be without the Eq.
I bought a Warwick Corvette passive and REALLY missed the boost features of the Eq.
I traded in the Corvette for a Warwick Streamer (active/passive switchable) and I'm amazed how often I turn the active off.

My guess is sometimes what you want varies with the instrument/pups. So never dismiss a bass just cos it's active or passive. Just try it and if it's right for you,go for it!!!

10. Sorry to disagree Shylock, but don't EVER use spray polish - on anything.
I come from a background of making furniture. If you use a spray polish you get a bloom-finish on the instrument (or furniture) that can't be re-lacqured. If you ever need to respray an instrument that's been sprayed with polish, you have to completely strip the existing lacqure to get rid of the finish that will resist the new lacquer spray.

Always use beeswax on instuments or furniture. It's easier to strip off later and leave the lacquer that can be rubbed down and sprayed or waxed again.

When buying beeswax, be careful too about the one you buy. I've come across some that are abrasive too. Abrasive is ok for wood finish, but for the likes of a black fender body you need a good smooth wax. A good car wax would probably be good - again made for a situation where you may want to strip and re-spray.

11. Really sorry to hear about this. Unfortunatly on this kind of thing Ebay, in my experiance of being on both sides of this, always sides on the side of the buyer when it comes to disputes. And Royal Mail is next to useless even when "Special Delivery" goes missing, no matter what info you have. Tracking numbers mean nothing to them, in my exp.

For future info, on all my sales i use www.collectplus.co.uk/
They say the max size is 30cm x 30cm x50cm. But I've mailed full bass instruments for £6.99 and they got there ok in 5 days - signed for too!

Lol, bit of a story with the 605. I tried a "new" one with a very distinctive grain pattern in Guitar Guitar in Glasgow and fell for it. It was £586 new. I hummed and hawed and came within a pubic hair of buying it there and then...but didnt. A few days later I was on their website and I saw that they had an immaculate "used" 605 in the Glasgow store for £299...so I snapped it up. Cut a long story short it arrived the following day and it was the exact "new" instrument with the distinct grain pattern that I had played and almost bought for full price 3 days previously. Now, far be it for me to cast aspertions upon Guitar Guitar...but they tried to sell me a pristine used bass at a new price imho. Anyway...fate dealt me the bass at a great price.

I just noticed that weight is an issue for you in your previous post. Obviously each individual instrument varies but both of my SR5's come in around about the 8lbs mark. Very light for 5ers.
It's also possible they seriously wanted to clear some stock, but didn't want to advertise that price to the world for a "new" bass. If they had, they could have the world and his wife calling asking for all the basses at 1/2 price. Or maybe I'm too forgiving.

But hey!!! What a bargain!!

Agree with previous poster...4 strings for a beginner every time.

Regarding the bass and amp I also suggest buying 2nd hand as there are some insane deals out there on ebay etc. Things have changed in a big way over the last 20-30 yrs regarding instruments. I just dont think you can buy a really "bad" bass these days. I recommend you have a look at Ibanez, Yamaha, Squier for your bass and buy a 15w practise amp to see if you are going to stick with the bass long term.

Good luck.
+1, but you may want to look at a slightly bigger amp than 15w.
I went for a Marshall MB30 but later found it limiting - not good for slap and not too happy on the over all sound.
I'm really pleased with my Roland Cube 100w, so look at a Roland. You may get a good secondhand one.

Good luck

14. I don't recon Paul Simon's Gracelends would ever have been the same without Bakithi Kumalo.
In case there's some who've not yet seen it... take a look at this:

I don't recon I've seen anyone play fretless quite like that. If you know someone, I'd like to see it.

Other than that, I recon all bassists are "replaceable" but to answer the OP; all Artists who have a GOOD player wouldn't be the same.
