    My Newcastle stories. . . .

It's the only place in the UK where, after asking directions, we had to drive around the corner and ask again. None of us understood a word!

After a gig we were looking for the road out of town. It was late and we stopped at a bus stop to ask a guy the way. He opened the passenger door, pushed in and started giving us directions. We drove the cheeky sod to his front door!! Then he told us how to get to the motorway.

Haha when I was a kid north of the Tyne, we did a gig in the deep south .... Jarrow. Me dad who was driving us did the exact same thing. Picked up a complete stranger, dropped him off at his destination and then took directions from him to the venue. Its definitely a thing up there!

Where do you get them from? Looks great. I've got a 5 string sire v5 that I'd like to put one on but not sure what the situation is with the wider 70s string spacing

  3. Ahreet?

Proudly born and raised in Newcastle. Lived just off stanhope street, 5 minutes walk to St James. Used to hear the crowds raw on a Saturday afternoon. Magic. Moved to the coast when I was 4 or 5 and moved to Yorkshire for Uni and never quite managed to leave. I'm currently saving to move back up but let me tell you, in certain areas, the North/South device isn't as wide as I would like it to be! On the coast where we are looking, I'd say its roughly £100k cheaper than an equivalent on the South Coast (where my other half lives and where my main office for work is). It's difficult to say definitively. It is cheaper, but not as much as I would like!

Do we have a Geordie corner here on basschat? Would be canny to make some friends prior to me move up there!

  4. Most I've spent on a new bass was £350 about 15 years ago. Been second hand purchases only since then.

Honestly, what I'd spend on a new bass now? Probably £0. Its just not important to me any more. After many years of lusting over £1/2/3k+ basses I'm in a really happy place with GAS atm :D. I've owned a few expensive instruments, but just haven't enjoyed them. I'm a squier/sire household for the foreseeable future!

    I would love a stingray though .... 😂

  5. I've got a fiesta red CV P bass from 09. Its a fender killer. I love it so much, I retired it from gigging duties. Its now strictly for home use, it's the bass that I'll keep forever!

Over the past ten years, I've had MIM, MIJ, MIA fenders, SBMM stingray, USA stingray and a Warwick thumb. They've all came and gone, none of them fit me like a glove like the CV which I understand is a highly personal thing.

For me, there is something very safe about cheaper basses. A lot less anxiety about having money tied up in an instrument that can devalue or get damaged or whatever. I just feel more free to enjoy playing music on it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way?
