  1. I've got a USA SVT3Pro around the same age and replaced the valves last year with matching JJ's.
It just started to sound a bit 'wooly'.
I was really surprised when I opened it up - none of the valves were the same make!!
The change made it sound a little more 'Zingy' (if thats a word?) the bottom end tightened up and the grind was back!

    Give it a go mate!

The fan in mine had started to get a bit noisy when firing it up - I dont want to hijack your thread but, anyone ever replaced this, and with what?

  2. I bought a Barefaced Super Twelve back in February and I've played it twice a week plus 2 gigs since then.
I'm a nightmare with EQ and really give it some with the gain on my SVT3Pro too.

Last week, hitting a 'G' on one of my D Tuned Spectors was really pushing the cones and one was cutting out slightly and seemed like it was peaking.

I emailed Alex @ Barefaced when I got back from rehearsal and to my surprise he replied straight away - it was 11pm!!

I explained what the problem was, he made a few suggestions on diagnostics and waited for the results. A few emails back and forth - the upshot being one of the woofers might have a manufacturing fault.

This was Tuesday - got back from work today (Friday) and there was a replacement driver waiting for me!

Alex emailed me some instructions and things to be wary of and an hour later, I've got a working S12 again! :D
I've seen the 'inner sanctum' of the innards of an S12!

I'm not used to customer service like this - it should be the norm in any business but, to me, what Alex did was above and beyond anything I expected and, well, a breath of fresh air.

Thank you Alex and keep up the great work both in producing the finest bass cabs I've ever heard and also valuing me as a customer - I can't help thinking that if every company followed your lead, we wouldn't be in the sh!t we are now ecomony wise!

I might be getting carried away a bit but, the service I received this week had really blown me away, and I can't sing the praises of Barefaced high enough!

    There is hope.......... ;)

  3. My Sansamp RBI rack pre-amp is up for sale.

I bought this last year to reach 'Tonal Nirvana' with my Ampeg SVT3 Pro and 410HLF and it did the trick running through the effects loop.

I've now got a Barefaced Super Twelve and well, the Ampeg has come alive and I simply have no need for the RBI.

It's done 5 gigs since I've had it - still in the box and is near mint (there's a couple of scratches on the underside from racking it - the face and top side are like new)

I'm looking at around £240 ovno and I'll post it for that or, if local I'll deliver it or halfway meet.

    Thanks for looking. :)

  4. Thanks again for your thoughts guys, much appreciated and keep them coming!
I've put the guy off my 3Pro for a couple of weeks, I think I'll pop down to Bass Direct with my S12 and one of my Spectors in the boot and try a few heads out.
I'd hate to let the Ampeg go and then regret it. I think the resale value of the GB wouldn't make it worth it, I'd be stuffed getting anything else half decent after.
Got a few things to try @ rehearsal tomorrow. Whacking the tube gain on full to go more SS than tube & running the Samsamp through the power section of the SVT - just for sh!ts and giggles!! ;)

  5. I think you may be right Chris but, this guy offered me more than I expected for the SVT and I'm thinking I wouldn't get this much for it again. It wouldn't cost me anything to get the GB Shuttle - well, apart from my sanity!!
I've got adequate options to try though with the rig I've got:
    SVT on its own
    Current combination of Sansamp/SVT
& Sansamp through power section on SVT
I'll try it all before a dump Ampeg - I owe itt hat much I reckon.

    Cutting out problem.

Isn't it made that you have to go for 'vintage' gear from the same company for more reliability!

    Sign of the times! :(

  8. From my other post:

Well my Super Twelve came yesterday and I took it down to our rehearsal room for and hour at 6pm. Ran the 25Hz sinewave through it just to get the drivers moving for a bit.
Flattened all the EQ on the 3Pro and left the SansampRBI off.
Started tweaking the EQ and hit the low button to boost the bottom end as advised and thought I'd run through a few basslines and mess about for a bit ....... 3 hours later I called it a night!
I can't explain how good this cab is!
My HLF kicked ass but this kicks its ass!
All the bottom end I loved is still there but the mid cut through is phenomenal! It's just ALL there!
I was thinking I'd miss the tweeter but nah, I don't need it, I can boost the highs with the sansamp and add a bit of drive to get the full on dirt.
To be honest my SVT 3 never sounded so good and I think over the last couple of hours I've decided I'm sticking with it!
I'm glad I took the gamble on Barefaced and the posts on here really helped me make, for me, a big descision.
I need a Barefaced tshirt now for on stage!

  10. I'm in exactly the same position mate.
I've got a Barefaced Super Twelve arriving tomorrow - replacing an SVT 410 HLF and now I feel the need to move on my 3pro. But, have no idea why!?!?
I use a Sansamp RBI too so, I'm gonna go back to basics. Svt on its own 1st and only add the sansamp if I really need too.
I like the idea of a PF500 though....

  11. I'm in a dilemma!
I've used Ampeg for the last 4 years - I wanted an Ampeg rig for 20 years and (following a divorce!) got an SVT 3 and 410HLF along with a Sansamp RBI. .
I loved it but, the last few weeks it's all changed.
I've sold my HLF and now the geezer wants my SVT3!
The HLF is being replaced with a Barefaced Super Twelve and I'm wondering if its time to move on from the mighty Ampeg ?
My immediate thought was Mmmm, PF500.
But, I do love the SVT3 'valviness' so, Orange? Genz, GK?
    MOM!!! :P
To be honest - I'm scared!!
