1. Well just to update, it was a "CRATE" amp that I got with my bass. I am loving the bass and the way it plays, it does have slight grooves but no lines for frets, and it was a made fretless, not one that someon's dug the frets out of I think the only thing I'm disagreeing with is actually the strings... I'm so used to the heavy as fooc, bent, bashed and mashed ANCIENT strings on my old yammy, that these smooth soft and responsive strings are throwing me off! I find them almost slippy! I'll try and get some pics up and put them in gear porn, but to whet your eager whistles, its a tobacco sunburst, with white scratchplate and all the tuning heads are on the one side of the headstock, unlike my old yammy that was a 2 left 2 right jobby
2. My OH is wanting to swap her Digitech RP80 Multieffects Pedal For something a bit more metulz, Heavy distort / overdrive etc, preferably something with multieffects but would consider a good standalone pedal It doesn't have a box or instructions, but I downloaded the manual for free off the digitech website so I can email it to you or possibly print off a copy.
3.
Fretless basses for men dont have markers
Good job I'm a girl then isn't it?
4. Went to see the bass, tried it, loved it and had to have it! Its not a top of the range bass, it was only £150 new, but its near mint and along witht the bass I bought a Kraft amp for a steal price. The sound quality is AMAZING, makes mine look like something out of the middle ages! its so clean sound, I love the way it feels, and instantly took to the playing style, so much so that I'm selling my old bass in favour of this one, and as an extra to boot he'd put some Flat fender strings on for me, a full set £30 worth
5. Bought it.... love it, love the action! will post more later x
6.
Go for it some people may find it daunting but the transition is not that difficult. Becoming a very good fretless player takes a bit more than knowing where the notes are though. I think your skills on fretted will get better quicker if you also have a go at fretless. Personally I'm not very good at it yet but I do love the sound I'm getting from mine.
What differences can I expect from my bass? I am a beginner, but I've been playing fingered since the start, never even picked up a plec and I find my bass to be a sluggish, stiff piece of tree From what I've read the fretless are more fluid, with a better sound though often quieter?
7.
Now I'm not one that has much knowlege on the technical aspects of basses, so I need a little help here I don't know whether there are universal guards or whether I have to get one specifically for my yammy. basically I'm wanting a scratchplate for a Yamaha RBX170, I'm after something very cheap as its just to collect autographs on, and I don't use a plec when I play, so it doesn't actually have to be very strong/thick/protective as its never going to have to guard the body against a plec. So basically something as cheap as possible, ideally around £5, would consider a second hand one if anyone has one, if not can someone link me up or reccommend me to a place where I can get one.
Anyone??
8. Basically i've been thinking of getting a new bass, or a second bass and I've been having a look at a few for sale nearby as much as i love my bass, its a cheap hunk of tree. lol Anyway there's a fretless bass gone up for sale near me, its not fully fretless but has markers, and its made by Axl. I like the idea of the fretless bass, a nicer sound and more fluid slides etc. and from what I've read you play a fretless bass ON the fret markers as apposed to inbetween in the area you would play on a fretted... Any one have an opinion on fretless basses? would they be ok for a beginner? anything else I need to know about fretless? are axl basses good? or at least better than my yamaha rbx170
9. My yammy rbx170 was customed before I got it, pure cosmetic paint job and coloured metal tone nobs. My issue is, it got dropped and one of the nobs came off, the nob just slotted back on and still turns etc but the nob is now prone to falling off if the bass gets a knock. Basically I have two issues, 1. how can I stop the nob falling off? 2. how do I tell which nob is which? Now either I'm a completely tone deaf noob (very possible) or there is no descernable differance when i turn any of the nobs, and none of the nobs say on them what they are! Complete noob questions i know, but at least the thread is good for a lol at the excessive ues of the word nob

11.
Now thats what i am talkin' bout. Good man.
I'm a girl So its a B*****d playing bass as my hands are smaller. sucks and I get more blisters. But i said from the beginning I want to play fingered bass, so there's no point using a plec as its just going to be harder to switch to fingered when I'm used to using a plec. Not the best deciscion when playing heavy metal style, a bit of a strain but will be worth it in the end
12. I'm just learning, been playing a couple of months and never used a pick yet. When I get blisters I just prick them with a pin and put a plaster on and carry on, then take the plaster off next day
13. I'm wanting to learn the intro / beginning of "I am Morbid" by "Morbid Angel" Can't find it anywhere, can anyone transcribe it for me?
14.
I've only seen the ones that Rick parfitt was doing; which I wasn't impressed with, and also the "photo-flame" finish that Fender was doing years ago, I think that was the name, they were printed finishes under a poly finish, which looked good from a distance.
When I refer to vinyl, I don't mean the full body "skins" I mean literally vinyl stickers/transfer such as this... (courtesy of google)
15.
Tasteful paint-jobs like the one in the pic, yeah, usually look pretty damn good; but I do really hate to see a bass covered in stickers, I always assume the player to be a kid trying & failing to make a statement or other, such as "I'm rad", or "I'm individual".
I agree with you on the traditional "stickers" that tend to be papery crap designs that peel and rip... but what about vinyls? They can be intricate designs, damn impressive and they're not as prone to fraying/peeling, when put on right they appear to be painted on they're so neat. It is easy to go overboard though, and I hate people who cover the bass from fret to body in a collage of crap stickers
16. What are your views on stickers, Vinyls, paintjobs etc. on your basses? I'm talking purely cosmetic mods, that have no effect on the bass itself other than its appearance. Personally I like the paintjob on my bass, its not professional by any means but I like the way it looks, I didn't do it but I'm considering adding some vinyls to it, to make it a bit more personal, however I don't like traditional stickers as I think its looks too messy as they tend to peel... I suppose I'm impartial, as my bass is only worth £60 on a good day, so I can't really devalue it by changing its appearance. So guys, whats your opinion? Do you like the fresh out the factory look, or something a little more personal? Maybe a fancy strap is as custom as you get.... Let me know!
17. Help with finding tabs for some metal / goth bands? Can't find any bass tab for these bands anywhere. Finntroll Turisas Morbid Angel Wolf

22.
Elixir nanowebs - 040 .060 .075 .095. They've got a slightly slippery-er feel under the finger, which is good. Pricey, but you get your money back because they last for months. Make sure your bass is set up for a low action, even if it rattles a bit. As time progresses and your fingertips harden you can try some other string makes and jack your action back up a bit.
I can't seem to find them anywhere... none on eBay and my local doesn't sell them, are they sold in england? I've had a look at these, nickel lights... 23. alright guys. I got a thrashed yammy rbx170 im a novice learner, playing metal fingered bass, never use plecs and i'm a girl so have pretty small hands, reccommend me some strings that would suit and wont break the bank and hopefully reduce the raw-ness of my hands lately
24. i've been playing for about a month now, and got some basic intro's and scales, but i'm having trouble with speed. I'm into metal and got some song's that are pretty simple but i just can't play them quick enough, i can play them slow but when i try for full speed i can't pluck fast enough. i've been playing fingered bass from the beginning, never with a plectrum, any tips on how to help speed up my playing \accuracy at speed?
