2. Again, very very upset to hear about Si - simple words can't express it but all I know is that he was a very good man and the love felt for him here is a pure and uncoloured testament to him. We met at Northampton and exchanged some messages about the first edition Squier basses and he was as dry as a bone, very funny man.

Wherever you are right now mate, we luv ya x

Early '80 Korean made(?)/US Assembled could be a good buy on its own never mind with the amps.
Hi!

Now Im not an expert but as far as I know, the Ultra basses were a Precision style bass (think P bass with a shorter bottom horn) - this looks as though someone has put an Ovation neck on a J type body - if anyone can enlighten me/this thread then please do so!!!

    ATB!

  4.
I feel immediately at home on the fretless 5, I always struggled with the old Series 1 six string fretless.... the extra string and concentrating on intonation was just too much for my tired old brain. With the five I only need to think about playing in tune, it's a joy to play and has every kind of usable tone you could want from a bass. It's a little dark with Hotwire Halfwounds but I'm going to try your suggestion of Elixirs and see if they give me the tone I'm after without biting into the fingerboard too much.

I'm getting to grips with the fretted 6 although I've not worked out anything yet that properly uses the extra string. I'm going to look into some chord based stuff and harmonics when I get some time, I seem to be working round the clock at the moment. It sounds different again to my old Series 1 and the newer bolt on S2 Classic, almost hollow sounding but with lots of projection - not sure if it's the maple fingerboard or the individual bridge pieces (rather than the all in units on the other basses which sound more focussed). It's got a nice floaty, lighter tone that works for more fancy playing, so I'll probably still be using the 5 stringers for the more day to day playing.

It's early days yet and I'll do some experimenting with different strings over the coming months, I'll hopefully get some samples recorded and get a better idea how everything really sounds and will try to post something here or on the statii site.
A lovely pair of Status basses sir!

    Nick (yes, still alive!)

  5. Allo!

They were aimed at the `Jazz-Ray' market - nice basses - very straight kinda tone - bit like a Jazz or Ray! Not perhaps as detailed tone-wise as the MK models etc but a good working instrument!

  6. Hello fellow gardeners!

These are some vintage pics taken in my old garden....!

Once I can locate all 70 basses and the garden is sorted ie triffids have all been flamed-throwered! then we will be in store for a treat!

    Good to be back!

  7. Hallo!

Been away for a bit developing my ESP and healing powers but hey, rock and roll still pays the mortgage!

Ian (Ebasses) Hancock and I have started to `convert' my Electra to the Squire spec - problem is, I use it all the time and thus the mods are still under development! I've located some Schaller machine heads and the right version of the Badass bridge as per Chris' bass - Ian is going to refinish it and will have a polished stainless steel scratchplate made too!

The only pics I have are sh*te but will upload em once they are on photobucket. The top horn needs slimming down a bit and the bottom horn is still too thick but this will be sorted!! Balance-wise, it sits very well, no neck dive to speak of! Oh, best of luck with this project!

    Cheers!

    Nick

  8. Hi Ian!!!

Looks fantastic mate - it looks as though it will exhibit a lovely deep tone with excellent `swell' to the notes! That pickup looks very potent - whats it made from (housing)

Cheers - and great to hear from you - can you believe E Basses is ten years old now!!!

  9.
Yup, that was me! :)

I had serious GAS for it and just had to buy it.

Great bass for the money and it looks the business. Even the missus was impressed!
I was the same mate - walked into the shop - plugs it in - sold. About 2 minutes 20 secs!

  10.
I was under the impression that, the UK distributers at the time,Selmer ? re-sprayed a lot of Fender basses at the time, because the custom colours were hard to come by,and the colour turned out slightly pink instead of fiesta red.
This is the story I have heard - the Salmon pink colour was not a standard US Fender color (sp!) and due to the popularity for fiesta red, they sprayed a lot of instruments and the colour was more pink than red! Comparing the new bass to my original fiesta red '83 JV Precision, its a different colour! The name of said colour does not really matter to me - it just screams `Jet Harris 1961' at me!!!!

  11. Just to say thanks Andy for a great transaction - all the very best to you m8! I've not plugged her in yet as got in really late following a trip over to see one of my best mates in Salford (which I do know how to get to funnily enough!) but I know its love already!

    Cheers!

    Nick (Miller!)
