2. Rich

Its not an exclamation mark issue, its a bass addiction that needs a severe financial injection so that more basses can be purchased and added to the collective. Mwahahahahahaha
    Many thanks.

PS - for some more information on the superb Ashley Pangborn basses, check out Ian Middleton's site (which we put together many moons ago):

    http://www.geocities.com/yobrode

    They are incredible! (oops!)

  3. Cheers!

I bought the bass from Andy Pearson who plays bass with the Beat. I had some knobs custom fitted to it as I personally cannot understand why the originals are so flimsy (and can be found on the lower priced range of Yamaha instruments!). You have a nice collection listed there! Do you have any pix?

  4. Ah!

Rich! Hallo! Hope you are well! I've been offline for a while!

Ped! Thank you for you welcome! Yes, I too love Vigier basses - nearly bought a third one back in the summer but twas not to be! I will try and find some pix of those lovely French ladieez! I've just posted some porn over in the relevant receptacle!

    Many thanks!

Edit - Ped, here's the Passion model! The pic was taken off of Ebay - the colour is much more of a claret - great bass!

    Cheers!

  5. Allo!

This is an old thread that has been resurrected, for the interest of those of you who have recently joined Basschat! For more details about me and what I do, have done etc, check out my hastily produced free site - http://www.freewebs.com/doctor_bass

    Here's some pornos!!!!

Here's 20 basses from my current stash of 65!

a closer view of some of the tasty pieces, inc. one of my Pangborns (now sold sadly)

My last and somewhat costly trip to Ebay...! #61 of only 200 built (20th anniversary model), as new!

...the green movement! Jaydee Custom Session bass, series I body, mains driven LEDs!!! Now with JD being redone in clear red!

I used to own this red Classic that was Mark King's - here I am holding the other one!

another ex King bass that I had at the time!

Anyone remember E Basses? Here we were 9 years ago at the NEC!!! Check out the chav blonde - Patrice is thinking `sacre bleu'!!! He's really thinking, what a tw@t but he does use a Vigier Arpege! I'm no longer technically a partner in the business incidentally:

Here's some more E Basses stuff!

    More to follow! Sad eh?!

    Cheers!

  6. Hi Dave

The use of the flitecase was intended to get it closer to ear level, the actual box itself did not actually make a huge difference in that particular venue. However, unwanted booms from hollow stages can be a nightmare but that applies to all instruments placed on said surface! Worst one was a hotel in Manchester! BMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

PS - that pic of the basses is not the complete collection!

  7. Allo!

  8. Allo!

I've just joined up here and without boring people, I'm a pro bassist covering every imaginable gig scenario from '30s dinner jazz to full on funk etc. I've bought a selection of Markbass gear (check out my equipment page at http://www.freewebs.com/doctor_bass for the details) to cover 99.9993% of eventualities and to be honest, my favourite piece is the CMD102-P 2 x 10" combo! I've owned it for 2 years; it was one of the first `wasp coloured' units and was the actual review model featured in The Guitar and Bass magazine. It has never let me down - I swear by it, not at it!

I'll never forget the very first gig I did with it - a twin lead guitar setup playing original blues and `classic' covers such as Hendrix etc. I stacked the combo ontop of one of my old flitecase box lids so as to get it off the floor. I'm stood there, the amp looking tiny - I'm thinking `...is this really going to work, i'm used to an EBS 4 x 10" plus HD350'. Anyway, it delivered big time! A guy comes up to me after the first set....`can you turn your bass down a bit mate' - i'm like `YES'!!! I think that due to the clear reproduction of tone, the old style of `earthmoving' low end from many other amp makers is now a thing of the past. They (Markbass) have spent a lot of time (imho) working on cabinet porting and I believe that this is what makes the combo sound so clear, and a big thing for me, the tone is completely transparent. I've got 45 basses (I know I know!!) - not of all them are working instruments but the ones that get used are expressed very faithfully and uncoloured which I something I have wanted for many years; came pretty close with my SWR rig and to an extent with EBS but the markbass stuff does it for me!!

    Sorry, waffling!

    Cheers!

    Nick

  9. Allegedly, the Rockinbetter basses have now ceased production! Mr Hall was not best pleased!

My mate built his own Ricky tribute bass many years ago - called it `the KnackerCrusher'.

If you can find one, they are very well made but the pickup housings tend to `rock' about a bit. Soundswise they are pretty close!

    Many thanks!

    Nick (newbie!)

  10. Hallo!

Only just joined up but just to add to this thread! I'm a full time professional bass player and having used Markbass gear for 2 years now, it really is the business! I play in a full-on corporate function band, music ranging from 1930's jazz through to chart material, a latino-funk Hammond driven `conundrum' as we call it, many theatre shows and other gigs and the mark gear delivers! Even my keyboard player wants one! (and if you have an electric drum kit, it sounds like thunder through the combo!).

Check out my equipment page at:

    http://www.freewebs.com/doctor_bass

Having been down the usual Trace, SWR route etc, I discovered EBS and subsquently bought an HD350 plus 4 x 10" cab (which was excellent soundswise but having a bad back meant pre/post gig hell). I ended up doing some demos at one of the music fairs for Organic guitars and used one of the Mark combos! Fully smitten, I persuaded a local music store to take the range on and I fell for the 2 x 10" combo; I then added a 4 x 10" cab, and then bought the Little Mark head and a 1 x 15"!! Depending on the gig/show, I tend to take the combo out on its own or coupled up to one of the cabs! For certain gigs, the stack will be used as the main rig and I then stick my Roland PK-5 midi bass pedals through the combo! Takes up a bit of room on a crowded stage but there we are! Trace Elliot wanted me to take an endorsement but there is no earthly comparison! Again, different venues dictate EQ settings but for 90% of all my work, I set the amp flat and use the VLE and VPF filters to `tweak' the tone. I tend to use a Status Series II or a Vigier - both graphite necked - and the clarity is outstanding but not sacrificing depth or body.

    Cheers!

    Nick

  11. Hi Paul!

Yes! The Cardinal range - super little basses! The reason I tend to buy them up is that they are indeed 32 inch scale and I teach a lot of younger people who don't always own a bass from the outset; these basses tend to get loaned out etc. My first ever bass is the cherry burst CSB-450 - bought back in 1982! I bought an Aria Laser Classic last week - super instrument for £100! The entire collection currently contains...

    Alembic LS-1

  12. Allo!

Last thing i knew I'd joined the old forum and b*gger me, a day later it had gone!

Anyway, great to be able to join you guys at last! Where's Rich?!

I'm a pro bass player based in Cambridgeshire but looking at moving soon to rural Leicestershire where I can sit in the farmer's field with me Vigier and not upset any neighbouring human beings! I'm known to some of you guys who may remember my involvement in setting up the bass maker `E Basses' (more on this in a minute!) and the fact that I've got 45 basses etc etc - its a bit of a disease!

Good news - E Basses is resurrected and we are exhibiting at this year's Music Live at the NEC - more news on the new instruments coming soon!

I'm also providing private tuition in Cambs/Leicestershire - check out my site: www.freewebs.com/doctor_bass

    Cheers!

    Nick
