These topics are always interesting. I always think i have problems, but some people have a horrific time in comparison to me. It makes me feel i am lucky in comparison.

Same here! I would have trouble playing in a band these days, but can still play as and when I want to, within reason. Grateful for that.

2. Good grief! You lot make my hand and wrist issues sound like a fun day out!

I've been seeing an orthopaedic consultant for my troubles, originally diagnosed with carpal tunnel in both wrists and compression of the left ulnar nerve. But following a nerve conduction study, they've retracted that. They have found a several small and one larger cysts deep in my right wrist joint from an MRI scan, but don't seem worried about that.

There are several problems including shooting pains up my arms and in both wrists and right index finger, numbness, tingling fingers etc, but they aren't prepared to spend the time and money doing more tests, and have told me I must put up with it. Wonderful!

But anyway, yeah, that seems like nothing compared to what you're going through, all the best in getting it sorted. Have you tried a short scale bass? Might be worth a go.

The flats have given her a bit more thump and taken away the the zing from the top end = smother growl , very nice to my ear anyway.
strings are D'Adario super light gauge. 40 60 75 95

Lovely. Sorry but one more question - did you get short scale strings or just fit normal scales to the bass?

Evil dead was yours up for sale recently?

I'm sure I've seen a short scale warwick advertised somewhere recently.

Poor old memory :D

It was yeah (mentioned it above), but I decided to hang onto it as it's too good :)

Thanks for the replies. Would you folks say the necks model to model are consistent? I know my Fender bass necks pretty well (say, jazz vs. p-bass). Are Warwick necks "fat" like a p-bass or thinner profile like a jazz? I realise this may not be the best comparison :). The only reason I asked is I guess I'm looking for a long scale if I want a German made, and will all the help I can get with my kiddie fingers. Thanks for your help.

My RB corvette has a jazz nut but a fairly hefty profile which is very comfortable. Same went for my old German made corvette $$ from 2008, but I believe that pre-2006 and post-2012 had much slimmer profiles. Certainly a 1996 corvette and a 1994 fortress I used to have had the slimmer necks. I think generally if the neck is wenge, it's slim, and if it's ovangkol it's chunky.

6. There have been a couple of German made short scales but they've been custom shop models.

However, there is a Rockbass corvette short scale which I can highly recommend. Not made in Germany of course, but still a really solid bass and sounds amazing. I was going to sell mine a while back but decided I liked it too much :D

If you want a warm sound go for the 500 or the 700 as these both have mahogany bodies (the 700 having that rather nice top) which normally means the addition of warmth to the overall sound produced by the pick ups and pre amp. But if you've been taken by a particular instrument that you've actually played, go with that one.

I hate to try and contradict, but to me, the SR600 always had the warmest and nicest tone. It's got that lovely ash body, and nice grain is icing on the cake :)

I had an SR600 and it was a wonderful instrument, I'm still sorry it's gone.

Gareth, it might not matter to you, but if you set on a search for the ultimate bass, knowing well in advance that this will involve buying and reselling lots of basses, by getting rid of those that didn't meet your expectations, you don't want to do that at a loss do you, you clever clog? Which is why it makes sense that you must try and get most of your money back if not all of it. That my friend, it's simple mathematics and the only way you keep afloat in the game of buying & selling for the purpose of the search which I've described above!

One of the many differences between me and you Gareth, is that I would flog a bass that I've bought and not liked, while you would send it back because there is a scratch on the cardboard box it came in or the box was the wrong colour and the shipping label was glued at a funny angle, or maybe because Strings & Things didn't include Nectar points for your loyalty card. :D

Bit harsh...

Bought a strap from Rob, it arrived exactly when he said it would and I hadn't even paid for it!
(I have paid for it now, by the way). :)
Wouldn't hesitate to deal with Rob again - great comms, top basschatter, all good! Thanks Rob.
