  1. My current tuner has served me well for the last 5 years (Artec Big Dots) but it's on the blink and becoming more of a pain in the rear as time goes on (really slow to pick up the notes and sometimes chooses the wrong note completely - for example I'm tuning the D string and it comes up B, C, all sorts). And flits from flat to sharp to perfect tuning and back again with one pluck of the string, not even touching the tuner keys. Grrr.

So I think I'm going to request a new one from my better half for Xmas.

Doesn't have to be anything fancy, but does need to be good for bass (of course!).
I don't have a pedal board so doesn't have to be a pedal but I don't mind if it is (current one is).
I don't really fancy a strobe tuner, or a clip on headstock one unless it's really good (the ones I've had in the past have been crap), and I much prefer chromatic.
EDIT: oh I forgot, no rack tuners, I don't really know what a rack is let alone have one :D

    What do you think chaps/ladies?

  2. Douglas, that's a pretty good idea, I hadn't even considered that. But, I don't think the landlord or letting agent would be happy with the solution :D maybe I'll give it a go if and when I own my own place :)

I do use headphones 99% of the time - I wasn't very clear when I said play through my amp, I meant through speakers... my bad. I don't mind using headphones, but there is just a little bit more awesome when playing loud through a cab. I don't know what it is, but I just enjoy it that little bit more.

I might look into the hiring a rehearsal room option, it's a good idea. I'll see what the rates are like locally

I have tried putting the amp on my bed, but it still seems to reverberate all around the place. I think that's the best I'm going to be able to do for the moment.

  3. Hey all

I don't know if it's possible, but I'd like to play bass through my amp a bit more at home. Trouble is, I'm in a top floor flat and don't want to annoy the neighbours.

Is there any way of reducing or eliminating the sound transfer into the lower flats? Something I can put under the amp perhaps.

    Thanks in advance :)

    Hi Stavros

As I said to you via PM (after you tried to guilt me into posting this to you), I want this bass to go to a child or adult who is disadvantaged - poor, homeless etc. I don't mean to judge, but you have a list of very expensive nice gear in your signature. And at the end of the day, the decision is mine.

I won't be giving you this bass, sorry.

EDIT: beside which, the courier will cost more than the bass is worth, what's the point?!

  6. Thanks guys.

I should also say, if anyone knows of a school, youth group, or church, something like that, without funds for buying a bass, that's cool too. Just happy for it to go where someone needs it.
