Hey guys, So another option for downsizing my rig is to go for a Barefaced cab (either a Big Baby 2 if buying new, or possibly a used compact) with something like a GB Streamliner on top. It seems like this could be a great solution, and from what Alex had told me, a BB2 and decent head will create enough bottom end and volume for me (mainly pubs and clubs, occasionally a theatre/barn/large Hall/festival). I'm just curious to know what people's experiences are of this type of setup, whether these little cabs can really cut it, and if I'm lucky maybe someone near hereford had one I could try out?! Thanks for the info guys, very useful. To be honest, I've been potentially looking at making my rig even more compact, and the Tecamp Puma 212 combo in the fs section has caught my eye. It's maybe a little bigger than what I had envisaged, but seems like a good bit of kit. It's just difficult because there's nowhere I can try one out!

Hey guys, just wondered if anyone who has had experience of Tecamp gear could tell me a bit about what it's like? Sound, reliability, likes/dislikes, etc, etc. Thanks for your help!

Did you get it? I was frantically trying to bid, but my phone was having a funny turn and wouldn't let me! I had been watching it for days. A good price for what appears to be a very tidy example. Hope it's gone to a good home anyway!

Add the 1x15" extension cab and BOOM! I saw a review of the first series version, and he says it's basically just an MB500 head built into a Neo 212 cab. Sounds good to me! I was looking for a replacement for my Markbass, but I'm wondering if I should just get an MB212-II combo to use for rehearsals and very tight gigs anyway! If it ends up pleasing me enough, maybe I'll sell the Markbass......

Your rig sounds great, but I wouldn't really be gaining anything over my current setup. Out of interest, have you tried running the 2x12" on its own, and if so, how does the bottom end hold up? I believe the MB212 - II combo has the neodymium speakers and also a HF horn, which can be switched off.

How doyou find it? I have zero experience of gk stuff! I know they're probably different beasts, but how do you find it in comparison to Markbass stuff? Seems ridiculously good value, but I've read that some people have had reliability issues (although I believer that was the original series stuff).

Hey guys, In the mental turmoil of trying to decide whether to change my rig or not, I've noticed the GK MB212 - II. The specs look right, the price is great, but I just wondered if anyone here owns or has any experience of them? Is be grateful to heart any opinions you may have. Thanks

Thanks for the responses guys! I think I'm torn between a Barefaced Super Twin and head of some sort, or the Markbass CMD121P and NY121P.... The beauty of the Markbass is that i could use just the combo for rehearsals etc, but I can't help feel very drawn to the Barefaced stuff. All that said, after having a measure up tonight, I wouldn't be able to save masses of space, although it would be a bit more compact, but I just don't know whether it would be worth the hassle really.... Why do these things have to be so difficult to decide!

I guess to some people it would be, but more importantly it's just another factor weigh up when trying choose between the two. If someone really felt that the 'ray was as good as it gets for them and nothing else will touch it, then it's worth it I guess.

Hey guys, just been thinking about changing my rig this week, and I wanted to get some other opinions. I've currently got a Markbass CMD102P 2x10" combo and Traveler 151p 1x15" extension cab, which I've had about 6 years or so. It sounds great and I can't fault it in any way, BUT..... I've got GAS for a compact head and two 1x12" cabs (or a 2x12" if compact enough). The thought of an even more compact rig is appealing, especially because space is limited in some of the venues I play, and just for easier transportation really. I like the fact that I could just use one cab for rehearsals and small gigs too. I know I could just use my combo for this at the moment, but in reality I notice the difference without the 15" there. As far as a new rig goes, I would want to try to keep the cost down if possible, but I want a decent sound. GB shuttle 6.2 plus two focus 1x12" cabs looks a bargain, but I also like the look of the Aguilar TH500 with maybe a Barefaced Super Twin or something? Open to suggestions really, what do you think? The Hartke Hydrive cabs look good vfm too. I would be looking around 500w I guess. Would I be mental to let the Markbass go and massively regret it? You know how gas is.... Thanks for your help.

Just had a quick look on Thomann for comparisons sake, and the cheapest MM 'ray 4 3-band i can see is £1328.64 (most seem to be quite a bit more than this), and the cheapest Basic 4 is £767.10 (although there is a B-stock for £686.05). You could probably add chargeable custom options to a Basic order and still come in a fair bit cheaper than a stock 'ray!

Well I've owned two Sandberg Basic 4's and two Basic Ken Taylor 5's, and I really think they take some beating. The neck feel and overall playability is the main selling point for me, but they sound incredible too! I guess it depends whether you want an exact replication of "that stingray sound" that people get so defensive about, or whether you're just looking for the sound of a MM style humbucker in the sweet spot. For me, the Basics gave as close an approximation of a stingray sound as I would ever need, especially in a band mix, I think you'd have to be incredibly anal abut it to pick holes. The Glockenklang Preamp in the Basic is superb, plenty of adjustment but a very natural sound, and the controls interact very intuitively. The passive mode can be very useful too, and with the preamp set flat there is zero volume difference between active and passive. I think the Sandbergs represent superb value for money too, you can have a Basic handbuilt to your spec for less than an off-the-shelf Stingray. I've tried quite a few Stingrays over the years, and although I really want to like them, there's just something that's not quite right for me. As they say, one man's coq au vin is another man's chicken in a basket! As others have said, the only real way to draw a conclusion is to try both and see which works best for you. Might be tricky finding a Basic though, unless there's a friendly BCer you can tap up......
