    400 yes, 250 hell no!

I spent a year dispatch riding on a 250 and yes, it was slow, but still fast enough compared to London traffic. It was also cheap to run, comfortable to ride all all day and completely reliable with minimal maintenance, so I have fond memories of it.

Just to restate the original point of the thread.

If you’re moving on from 4 strings, is there any point in going to 5 instead of 6.

I thought this when I played a 4 string only. It seems obvious; if you're going to upend your playing as you learn a new instrument why not go straight to 6?

But each added string brings compromises, and I think the 5 is the sweet spot for most players who want to move beyond a 4. You get the benefit of being able to play across the board, and the useful extra low notes. I feel the upper C is unnecessary unless you frequently play high register solos or chords.

The market has spoken too; 5s are much easier to find, new and used, than 6s. So no, far from being pointless, for many of us the 5 string is the ideal bass.

Apparently (according to search results) Thundercat is somewhere in the iPlayer footage. Top prize goes to whoever can find it.

I doubt it. There were no cameras as far as I could tell, which is a shame.

Is it safe to say Stingrays win Glasto?

I was there and didn't see any. That said I missed Candi Staton and didn't get close enough to see Elton's bassist.

Usual Fenders with the odd Rickenbacker everywhere else. Rob Mullarkey was sounding great with Louis Cole on his Wilcock shorty, and Thundercat was excellent with his signature 6. Also pleased to see the Nova Twins bassist rocking a pair of old Westone Thunders!

  5. I’d seriously consider that Sterling if I hadn’t shifted to a 5-string. I heard one being played in a rootsy rock band recently and it sounded really good.
I don’t reckon it’s a roasted neck though. Too light in colour. Also the serial checker doesn’t list it as roasted.
