1. Very strange gig last night. Some local pub wanted to put on a sort of mini festival with three bands on throughout the day. The only reason we agreed was because it was understood that whoever the last band were we would all use there gear.

Turns out noone wanted to share so we ended up having to bring our own. Not a problem, we explained that the only reason we had agreed to a reduced fee was because we were not bringing our own. Now that we were it was a slightly less reduced fee.

We got there at 16:30 (supposed to start bringing our stuff in at 5. The first band were on a break and had started late. No surprises to me but the place was also quite empty. The organiser explained that someone had been murdered the previous week and another pub was having acharity do for him. I was now even more uneasy about this.

We were then told they had some dancers coming on to entertain the punter/s while we set up. We actually set up so quick they didnt get a chance but we noticed they were all quite young though (read mostly jail bait with one or two possibly legal). So we played the first set and had a break then the dancers came on and did a bit of very inappropriate body popping with braces and hot pants on. I tried to just focus on the legal ones cause I fealt quite dodgy.

When we went back on though they all started getting changed and stripped down in a corridor only the band could see! Its very strange trying to avoid looking at a bunch of very young girls in thongs and bras bending over stripping out of hot pants and lycra!!!

I just turned round and watched our drummer instead and he just stared at his snare haha.

Anyway the gig never did get any busier but we got our cash and ran for the hills to avoid being labelled as a perv or peodo. very strange and overall not very enjoyable gig.

We will not be playing there again!

  2. Just bought a speaker and two instrument leads from Dave. The turnaround is second to none. I ordered late on Wed night and got the cables today.

Cant speak highly enough about this guy.

  3. I found recently that I was only using 2 of my 4 pedals while gigging. Fannied about a bit at practice but never really felt the need live.

Because of that I am selling all but my Tuner and have played 2 gigs without any of those 4. We had to drop Spread your Love by Black Rebel because that just plain wouldnt work without Fuzz but it never really got a reaction anyway.

I find I can get most of the variations I need for a gig playing with my tone/preamp controls and a pick when needed.

    Horses for courses though.

  4.
Mr. Brightside always goes down well. We stopped playing Kaiser Chief songs cos we hate em and it seems they aren't that popular anymore. They tended to get more rolled eyes from the crowd than any other modern song
I have to vouch for Mr. Brightside unfortunately. It goes down so well that no matter how much I piss and moan about that (and any other Killers song) we cant drop it.

I feckin hate the Killers and would stab Brandon Flowers in the voicebox given half a chance :)

  5. I decided that seeing as I only use 1 or 2 pedals rarely and on specific songs I would get rid of the lot (except my crappy tuner).

    Heres a Daphon compressor/sustainer

    £15 delivered

    [s]Boss NS-2[/s]

[s]On offer but if that falls though £35 delivered SOLD[/s]

    Boss SD-1

As far as I can tell this is a Tube Screamer in a yellow box :) £30 delivered

    My Big Muff

I dont really want to sell this but it isnt doing me much good. Better add this is the one with no PSU input. Just the Battery. £40 delivered.

[s]Of course. If I am selling my pedals then I dont need the case[/s]

[s]I can vouch for the solidity of this bad boy because it took a Wharfedale PA speaker from a tripod stand to it and survived. OK I had to repair the internal PCB for the connecters but it still works a treat. Due to the substantial crash test I'll take £40 but will need to work out shipping on this though. SOLD[/s]

If you need more info or pics just PM me and I will do what I can.

  6.
Theres also some other countries attached to the one pictured where you might like to play too :)
I was going to say... it looks familiar but someone seems to have cut off that Islands head!!!

  7.
Aye!! From 1 onwards.....

    D.
Well I managed to skive off enough from work tonight and check all the connections. I had emailed Ashdown and got the schematics from them, top guy (literally, his name was guy), He suggested a bad connector on the CPU PCB. Removed the top cover tonight and powered it up and played about with all the connectors on it. The power cable was the one that was cutting it out.

Removed the plastic connector from the wires and soldered them straight onto the poles. Now I cant get it to cut out at all. Will give it a good going over at practice on Thursday and I am not getting my hopes up after the PC debacle of a few months back but alls looking good :)

  8.
what happened to you on saturday mate?

you can borrow my GK if you need an amp while yours is gettin fixed :)
I just used my backup into my 2x10. Did the job and we were kinda runnin late getting to the gig so didnt want to rushabout looking for a speaker cable. Cheers anyway.

We have a couple of weeks off so shouldnt need yer amp but will keep it in mind if mines is buggered.

  9. I have been gigging my Superfly for about 3 years without an issue. No squeeling on certain presets and no major hiss anywhere.

In practice last week on Tuesday it cut out. I wasnt getting any input signal at all. I switched it off and back on and It lit up like usual but when the lights all settled the highest EQ bar was lit right up and none others were even on and still no input signal.

I switched it off and on again... same deal. Out of pure frustration I switched it off again and slapped it (quite hard) switched it back on and it all worked only to cut out again 2-3 songs later.

I am not cranking it too much I have the gain set really low and use the output signal to get volume. It happened again at practice on Friday night then again a few times at our gig tonight. I eventually swapped it out for a back up H¦H head unit I have to finish the gig. BTW slapping it worked every time to get it back on.

Has anyone seen this before or similar on another solid state amp? I will be dropping it off at the local repair dude I know but any pointers to get him started would be nice as it might only die after playing it for a while. If he cant replicate the fault then he might not be able to do anything.

Help me obi wan, you're my only hope!

  10. That is a purdy G&L. I always like the blue burst. Prob even slightly more than my cherry burst one.

Gotta agree on the variety of tones available. I dont have much experience with other basses as I only have a MIM jazz and a Westone Thunder but this beats the hell out of them and my mates Jap P bass I got a shot of once.

  11. We used to play Layla by Derek and the Dominoes. When I was learning it I found 3 different versions of it. C# D and D#. I ended up learning all 3 cause I couldnt get a hold of our guitarist to see which key he was learning it in! I dont even think it was a sampling error or anything.

And by used to play it I mean played it about 3 times live cause our guitarist hates clapton!

    That was fun!

  12.
Hey everybody.
I've been looking to buy a bass cab.
I've been drooling over orange and marshall cabs, but NO WAY do I have the money :)
Can any one give me a link to a good, cheap cab.
P.S-- I was looking to spend no more than about £450. I am low on the cash
Where are you based? For £450 you should be able to pick up a pretty decent cab. If you are north of the border then You can have my Marshall for £150. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=30812&hl=

If you want to go right up to your budget you can get pretty much any make second hand (within reason).

  13.
Our 'fifth Beatle' or fourth Missile Man, a DJ who lends us his PA, hasn't in any way started denying us its use, and is as helpful as ever. However he has changed his tune from 'use mine whenever you like, and I'll be offended if you even think of buying your own' to not sounding at all put out when I mentioned we were thinking of buying our own the other day. This makes us think it's about time we started thinking seriously about getting our own.
We're not exactly overburdened with gigs or money, and the system we've been using is a 400Watt Peavey with a couple of all in one speakers and a pair of floor monitors. It's done us fine so far for pub gigs, and we're probably looking at a similar setup to buy. We only use it for vocals, we don't put anything through it. I'm the singer, and I'll probably end up storing and transporting it, and I only just manage to fit it all in with my bass kit at the moment, so we don't want much more. Any recommendations for manufacturers, outlets or things to avoid? I like Peavey stuff, especially the older kit, but anybody else have any others they like?
We use 2 powered 250W Peavey speakers and a B**ringer mixing desk.

We only really play small to medium pub gigs but its more than we need and we run 2 mics off it. Same scenario as you in that we dont mic anything else.

Had a quick look on thoman and cant find the same ones we use but I remember them being about £200+ each and the mixer was the Guitard's so cant even guess at that.
Could probably upgrade but if it aint broke, dont fix it. I see a lot of Pub bands really over doing the PA to the point where it makes the sound check and set up way longer than it has to be.

  14. Its a shame to see you split that collection.

I remember you drooling over my walnut double P, xlr jobbie when I joined. Nice to see you got your hands on one... and now its for sale :)

Times a change I suppose huh.

  15.
Yeah, they were kind of fun to put togerther, especially for a DIY type of dude. But bottom line is the product doesn't stack up to its reputation.
Are you OBBM in disguise?! :)

  16. We are a 4 piece (Singer, bass, guitard and drummer) and we are around the 40 minute mark. We leave the practice area with all the gear about 7:45 for a gig anywhere in Fife at 9:00 and we still have time to fanny around waiting on the drummer and have a ciggie before we start.

  17.
bump
Have a bump on me.

This was the best pedal I ever bought. Sorted out my hissy chain in one fell swoop.
