1.
Respectfully, this is why I kinda dissagree..

me: "but the pub WILL mind that we're under 18 then?"
her: "well, if they find out they'll be mad. THEY'VE HAD A GO AT ME BEFORE FOR HAVING UNDER 18 BANDS PLAY, THEY'VE EVEN KICKED ONE BAND OUT FOR BEING UNDER 18 BEFORE". funnily enough, when a different mate found out where we were playing he was suprised because he always thought that pub was strict on 18+ only, but i didn't really think anything of it.
her: "anyway, like i said, JUST GO IN THE BACK AND KEEP A LOW PROFILE, you should be ok"

    These statements are absurd!!

Not evil, just really incompetent, thoughtless, and self centered.

So after she did find out they were underage, knowing she has had this problem before she still insisted on putting everyone at risk. Yes people do share gear but her telling them they HAD to bring a drum set for everyone to use is a bit more than just sharing gear. This is more like forced borrowing. Why couldn't someone else bring drums for everyone to use?

However, I do agree that she is in need of some guidance. Yes, hopefully she learns from this.

I admire your compassion for her Dave! You are a good guy trying to stand up for someone being put down by all of us!

    Craig
Thats the kicker for me. She knew from past PERSONAL experience about the venues age policy. That should have been one of the very first questions to ask a potential band.

She either chose to ignore the risk or was simply blinkered by the thought of getting someone to provide drums.

  2.
My NS-2 does a superb job of stopping the squealy Hendrix-esque  feedback that my Sansamp GT-2 producs with the drive cranked.
I stand corrected :) I could always create feedback in my old loop with my NS-2 on. Always thought thats not what the pedal did.

Please ignore my poor advice

  3. Can you clarify what you mean by feedback? As far as I know a noise gate/suppressor does not remove squealy feedback. It merely cancels out hum and hiss from your signal chain.

You may be trying to use the wrong tool to get rid of feedback. Roll the gain/OD/FUZZ back and see if the feedback is reduced.

  4. Just to add, you are right to go with the noise gate. A noise suppressor does the same thing and when I bought a Boss NS-2 it cleaned up my signal perfectly.

As long as you mean a hissy feedback and not a squeely overdriven feedback anyway. The noise gate/suppressor only gets rid of noise (hiss) from your signal not feedback (AFAIK anyway).

  5. I have one (500W version) and I always championed there cause when it came to the Superfly debate on here. There are a lot of turnips out there and I seemed to have been lucky.

Sadly it is now reduced to a practice amp for house use as it started cutting out as the CPU board has cheap connecters on it. Tried a DIY fix and also took it into a shop to have it repaired but still cuts out sometimes so just cant trust it at a gig.

I should add mines started going wrong after 2-3 years solid gigging everyweekend and 1-2 practices every week. It served me well for £200.

I would listen to Moos3h and keep an eye on the classifieds on here. You should be able to snap up a bargain if you have £230 to spend.

  6.
Only listened to listen to Honky Tonk Woman, but to be honest the vocals on the chorus are pretty ropey. The other thing is the production (especially on the vocals and drums) is incredibly lifeless and this really doesn't help.

Again, only in my opinion, your drummer REALLY needs to lay off the Crash.

    Cheers,
    James
Cheers for the feedback.

We recorded it a long time ago in a little YMCA studio. Wasnt expensive and I suppose you get what you pay for. We really wanted to somehow record ourselves live at a gig but couldnt find a decent way to pull it off on the cheap so went this way.

On our drummer, I have no idea how to play drums so cant really give him specific tips but he's easily the loudest thing about the band. We have no idea how to quieten him down besides putting him in a box!

  7. So, we have been gigging for a good year+ since this was recorded and are a damn site tighter than we were then...

The guitarist is still convinced he is week on the vocals (male) and the lead singer is more than coming into her own,

    Our tunes on spankface:

    http://www.myspace.com/offthecuffky7

Remember its a year on from these recordings and we have been giggin virtually every weekend and the guitard/singer is going live (ala one take) after about 2 weeks practice on Honky Tonk.

I'm sitting here after a night in the pub and decided to check our tunes out again and am quite happy with what I just listened to.

The main (female) vocs are quite weak but remember this is a year on and she is much stonger now, The Male vox are the same guitard is better these days and no quavery, unsure lyrics :). I aint improved much and the drummer is just as good (even though he was on a weird drumkit he wasnt used to, kudos to him).

I would be happy to hear those 3 tunes at a pub band gig personally.

Am I blinded by the fact I am in the band or am I being negative because I want to be picky?!

  8. So I had a bit of history with my Superfly which has now been relegated to a practice amp for my living room.

I started using my old H/H B100 to gig with and I began to appreciate how good it was until it too decided to die on me at the end of a gig. I popped it open to see if I could find a reason for it dieing and discovered 2 blown fuses inside the head unit. Replaced both fuses and it sounded better than ever so I suppose one might have blown a while ago and I just ran it on half power.

So with both fuses now good and a touch of gain this amp sounds killer and I will prob only make an upgrade to a Tecamp/Markbass type head. I play pubs generally but have yet to crank it above a quarter and any more is way too loud for the band.

One thing to mention, I noticed while changing the fuses that there was a QC type date written underneath the top chipboard plate that read **/Apr/62. Surely this amp isnt 47 years old but if it is then how the hell did these guys not manage to keep pumping out amps?!

Share all your H/H experiences and love here as I'm sure some of the more experienced guys here have used these in the past.

  9. I replaced the stock white one on my sage green Jazz with a black perloid and it does make a big difference.

Simple but effective for sure. Just need to put a decent set of pick ups in and I might get away with gigging the thing. Just doesnt have enough bottom end to it.

  10.
+1 again....

Though if you are OK with going second hand, there is some nice stuff in the Bass' for sale section - especially if your budget can stretch to some of the MIJ/CIJ Fenders in there....

Or the rather tasty (well to me anyway) G&L L2000 Tribute

    T.
+1 on the G&L. If you fancy a change from the Jazz sound then the G&L gives you loads of options and great value for money. I will prob never regret buying mine.

If you like the jazz though I'll echo what everyone else says about the VMJ. I even fancy one myself once the Credit card has calmed down a bit.

  11.
+1, and built to last.
You can say that again! I have started gigging mine again and its kicking ass. Possibly misleading but mine has a Q/C sign off in marker inside marked 1962!

No idea but I would grudge buying a £1 item from someone with no feedback.

    Stay away.

  13.
Bruce Welch said that that was the tune that sold a million red guitars.

That is absolutely classic, no way could we play with those indian maids around, our pace makers would go off the clock

That clip has been sent of to the local shadows club who will no doubt enjoy it.
I find myself doing the keyboardist hip dance at practice sometimes for a laugh. Think that would look interesting enough for this promoter?

  14.
ROFL, just checked your myspazz and realise I know your drummer...in the same bike club and live next door to his work
Nice, will let him know. He's a bit mental eh?!

Bikes and Tally and hes a happy bunny :)

  15.
We always have a joke in my band that probably the first tune any of us learned 50 years ago was apache by the shadows, and if we play it now, we still sometimes make a mistake usually because we are not concentrating.
So this isnt you guys :)

  16.
Sounds like a confidence thing to me. Try having some internal banter, say with the drummer to bring you out a bit.

In quiter gigs I'll try and latch onto anyone who's a bit vocal and try and have a laugh with them, if people see the band are open to banter then people join in and cut you some slack.

My band were once told that we sound great but didn't look like a band (which I sort of understand as our singer and guitarist don't engagae with the audience or the rest of the band)
Well that is an addon to having the mic there. Originally they suggested just having the mic to add to the banter but I wasnt keen on it being there just to talk sh*t.

I have been meaning to add some b/v's but couldnt really get myself motivated enough in my house. If the mic's there at practice then I will feel more motivated/forced (?) into it.

I personally feel I can carry a tune but it always fell apart when playing bass. Its a damn site easier with guitar as there isnt as much to concentrate on while strumming.

Got practice on thursday so will see what transpires then.

Maybe this picky agent will be the kick up my ass I needed.

  17. It was suggested that I attempt some backing vox to try and bring me out my shell. Not entirely convinced I can do it but will set up a mic at practice so I can give it a go.

Its all well and good attempting it in my living room but put me on the spot and its sink or swim. Nothing to lose after all it is just practice.

  18.
Sounds like he doesn't want to tackle the errant guitarist ... - the likely true reason for not getting booked ..
We had a word with the guitarist after a couple of gigs when his jabbering and fannying about was getting too much. He doesnt like to be criticised but took it on board and is now fine. They werent having a go at me last night, I think they just wanted me to know.

I'm usually joking around and stuff and if she had been in earlier then it probably would have been different as I was having a laugh with a bunch of guys on a stag doo while getting bored waiting. They all left just after this booking agent came in.

My problem is that I aint exactly the greatest bass player and I kinda have to concentrate on a lot of songs. If I try and smile and stuff while concentrating too hard I tend to look kinda ill.

  19. rant on/

Our singer told me last night that some organiser who is booking bands for a pub in some dirtbox town turned us down because I didnt look interested?!

She obviously picked up on the fact that I was pissed off the night she saw us because our guitarist was pissing about more than usual between songs but mistook it for me not giving a sh*t?!

It was a saturday night in a skanky wee pub out in the sticks, if I didnt want to be there I could have stayed in my house. Even if she was right, why would that stop someone booking our band?

I'm just ranting but I am genuinely confused by this comment and am now going to be paranoid about it in future. Stupid weegie cow!

    Rant off/
