  1. Not posted on here for a wee while  now but i've been using my WB-100 for best part of this year so far and i'm loving the tone with my Sandberg VM4 thru both my Mesa SW210/115 rig and now with the Barefaced 212 cab i bought few mths back.

It was originally bought as a stop gap until i managed to get my Mesa TT800 amp but tried the WB-100 again early this year and realised i just love a full valve amp.

One of the reasons i stopped using it was that i was getting a bit more distortion than expected and found the overall volume was limited because of it. What i found was that it was my pick up height that was the issue on the VM4. I dropped it a touch and the level of distortion appears to have almost gone completely except when really digging in. This allowed me to get the WB-100 gain up at a bit more and the overall volume is now more than adequate even for larger 200 seat capacity venues with no PA support.

At the moment with the BF 212 my settings are :-

Gain @ 11-1 depending on how i feel on the night.

    Bass @ 11

    Mid @ 2-3

    Treble @ 11-1

    Master @ 11 - 1

My Sandberg Family. SL TT, Electra VS4 (with Aguilar 60s and German tuners), TM4 Electra (Thomann Special) and the magnificent Lionel. I've become a fan boy!

Do the Aguilar pick ups make a difference. ?

Nice wee family going on there.

I'd quite like another VM4 just for a change of colour.

Pretty good night last night after a few weeks off. One new song in the set that went ok for a first outing, though I mucked up the ending.

Nice venue that’s almost always a good night and last night didn’t disappoint. Plenty of singing andan assortment of dancing girls.

Plenty of nice comments after at the gig and on social media which always raises the spirits.

Sound in my IEM’s was good with the repaired custom plugs and the new Sennheiser unit which is definitely better than hardwired with the Behringer, or the xVive that I have had problems with bleeding over the Wi-Fi link from phone to mixer for my aux. It did feel as if the other side of my plugs had failed, but that might just be that ear being more deaf so possibly need to tweak the balance. The boundary mic I chuck under the kit for a bit of ambient wasn’t working for some reason, probably the step down cable to the mic so I ended up coming home and ordering another before heading to my pit.

Couple of videos from the evening… bass a bit low and rumbling but hopefully just the phone as general consensus seemed to be the sound was good at the venue - sounded great in my IEM’s 😁 Spot the cheats 🙄

Superb bass pose start of 2nd song. Looks like a great night.

As mentioned a few pages ago, it was my Combustion -> GX-100 -> Bass Big Muff/Mojo Mojo in the loop -> Laney Digbeth.

The big head you can see next to me is the guitarist/singers old 70s Yamaha solid state thing. It supposedly imitates a Fender Twin.

I remember the post now Michael. Apologies for asking again.

First two gigs last weekend with the new band I'd been helping out and have now joined.

Saturday evening in Newbury and Sunday afternoon at a beer fest near Andover.

Really enjoyed both, 2 x 1hr sets  in Newbury, good crowd but not packed. I played pretty well and could hear everything.

Played when required at the beer fest as it was a multi band thing where the players mixed about...loved my first attempt at "hey Jude" with most of us playing together and I tried some Overton Berry Trio lines.

Thumpinator, comp, bass rig black panel, Barefaced 2x One10 stack for both.

First off, well done getting the job with the new band. Nice to hear that and all the very best with it.

That's a nice neat little bass rig. Would love to hear it. I'm a recent convert to Barefaced altho its pretty close to my Mesa cabs but a one cab fit with the BF 212 cab.

A few years ago I made a guitar for my guitarist. He was so nervous when he first got it, that it was a relief when he finally put the first dint in it and could relax. Since then he has played it so much it is "mojoing in" nicely. It looks great even with the wear and seems to sound better at every outing (though I do say so myself!)

    Nice one. Any pics ?

Here's a bit of the mojo on "Peaches", definitely well used but she sounds great. The colour has been called "butterscotch" as opposed to "blonde" but I think that's just the colour she changed as she aged.😊

Proper aged relic work. Many people pay extra for that kind of thing on basses. Yours was free apart from the work put into playing.

Looks very nice, not that i play DB but i do appreciate the skills involved.

    Thanks Dave,

It's one of those venues where the owners put in a lot of effort to take care of the bands. You can drink for free. Plus these folks have live music booked for 3 nights a week in the summer.  Friday,  Saturday and Sunday.

Very cool vibe, money people, no " riff raff". Lol

    Daryl

Oh well,  no chance of me getting in there then 😂

I'd be more comfortable at HD Museum venue.

We had a great 4 piece acoustic show at The Ziegler Winery yesterday.  We had a very good guest blues harp player. I played sitting down because of my ankle.

The 3 hour gig went fast and we were sounding really good to me. I was approached by several people after the show. I love that. It makes me feel famous.  Lol

The Ziegler Winery is a beautiful venue and they feature live music 3 days a week.

Super nice crowd with lots of dancing.  Perfect weather.

Next week we have Summerfest in Milwaukee.

  10. Last night with Blockbustarz was in Camelon Juniors FC. First time in this venue and it was full.

Small stage so both singers had to stand on floor in front of stage. Like most clubs folks want in early to get "their seat". People coming in 45mins before doors open which hindered us getting set up and doing a proper sound check but all was fine with it.

You know you've had a great night when the bar staff shut the bar to get out on the dance floor for Shang-a-Lang near the end.

Dancing from the start last night too and floor was relatively busy all night..

Feed back was incredible from so many people including the owner and the team that booked us and want us back again.

Club shut the pool room to give us a decent sized changing room plus storage for all the cases and back up gear if required.

Used the Sandberg VM4 into Shure wireless, Keeley bassist comp, Handbox WB-100 and Barefaced 212 cab and even tho i was standing close to the bass rig i could clearly hear the bass behind me. The Barefaced cab has surpassed my expectations.

Few wee minor mistakes by us but only picked up by us. Mine was Ballroom Blitz where i just could not get that bass part in middle as if my plucking fingers couldn't move fast enough to keep  up with drums. Not even a fast song but my head just wasn't working. That was 1st song second set so hopefully i'm fine next gig in 2 weeks.

One huge bonus was that i adjusted my garage and put the Harley bike along the back wall allowing me to put the car straight in the garage after the gig and will empty it today. That will be how i do things from now on as it made life so much easier after a gig.

We played our first full gig last night (we did a short set at a charity event few weeks ago)

We couldn't of hoped for better. The venue is outside but part covered... it's a bit different which makes a great place to play. We were all worried that we'd have problems with the mixer like at rehearsal, but all was good. There was a decent sized crowd with added benefit a hen do were there (big tick for target demographic there).

It was our singer's first ever full gig and she was fantastic. She was insanely nervous to begin with, but after a couple of songs she was loving it.

The manager told us it was the best attended night so far this summer and we'll get booked again, definitely.  Also a guy from another band said he'd drop our name to a really good venue with good rates.

    A 10 out of 10 night.

Well done the new singer at her first full gig.

We're also seeing numbers down in various venues and owners telling us they've put on free bands but still not busy. At least you guys had a decent audience so that's all good news.

Think folks simply don't have the money to go out as much at moment.

Gig 2 of 3 this weekend. This one was at the White Hart in Ashby de la Zouch. It can be a bit hit and miss sometimes. It was pretty much empty when we arrived, but before too long more and more people came in and we had the whole place jumping.

I'm not sure if bands really do drum solos any more (?) Moby Dick went down an absolute storm! Ideal time for me to grab a quick photo. Note the security staff and the local pastor team at the window.

    20250614_220915.thumb.jpg.3998893058bfe7fc0513ceae5b07d29e.jpg

You can also see my "stingish" Sub5 and Fender Rumble there. The bass has been promoted to the better gig bag - the one with the band cards in it 😁

So anyway, the really strange bit. We play "dad rock" - pop, rock and prog rooted firmly in the 70s. We usually attract old blokes to our gigs. Ashby is a bit different - it's a really buzzing town on a Saturday night, lots of pubs, lots of transient crowd. So there's more of a wider mix of people than normal and we're getting them to linger - all good stuff. Half way through the night four stunningly gorgeous young ladies came in, dressed in their underwear by the look of it. They grabbed themselves a pint of Guinness each and then started dancing right in front of the band singing along loudly to pretty much everything we played. Not only that, but after we'd played Oh Well they asked for another early Fleetwood Mac song - Albatross! - Then danced along to it. There were a few people in the crowd that found it quite amusing watching us trying not to stare at the gyrating ladies, although we did make a few more mistakes than usual.

What a great night. I love it when the room is in full swing.

    Most important though...

    ...the purple suede Gazelles

Sorry but without pics of the  4 young ladies in underwear then it never happened and you were dreaming while playing as we all do. 😂

I / we tend to agree. We put this version together pretty quickly as a way to sneak our own stuff in that format but I'm sure it will evolve. Most of the pubs around here tend to prefer acoustic acts, hence us developing that side of things. We usually have more mandocello / mandolin instrumentation but have added guitar to a couple recently. I'm pleased to say a fair few of the shows coming up are electric so it'll be fun to play electric live shows. I think we have 5 electric shows for 2025 coming up and 8 acoustic shows. so far.

Are the electric shows still a duo rather than a full band ?

Just wondering how you create that fuller effect on the songs. I'm guessing some backing tracks ?

Have to admit i do love the idea of the acoustic Goth songs. Mandocello sounds fantastic on the songs i've heard you use it.

Its just so different from the norm we hear.

This is from last Sunday's show. I hesitated setting this iPhone recording to live online but for a phone recording, it's reasonable and I am guilty of overthinking sometimes! It's one of the three songs in our set that I play guitar on. Nick is on the Mandocello and I think his vocal is great.

If anyone is really keen, you can compare it to our electric original version. We love playing electric but a lot of local bookings tend to be acoustic.

Think i prefer the full electric version on this one guys. Its more filling, more happening and seems to fit this particular song better but both great versions.

It's a total scrotum singing it and playing it because there's no obvious rhythm to the text. I am slowly getting there though, but I may have to rely on a Music Stand when we do it...

Didn't realise you were singing it too. That's a whole different ball game.

All the best with it and i'm sure you'll get to a point where it just "clicks".

We auditioned our new guitarist on the 2nd (playing 4 songs).
Got another 6 off at the next jam night on the 9th.
Rehearsed two sets worth of songs last night. Yes, we are having to go for some 'quick wins', but we are out again in July.
    This is one of them.

Sounding good and that Ric sounds very nice.
