I did wonder about that, but then, for some reason, chose to not consider it. Would one way around it be to disconnect the post break lugs of the front socket from the circuit board, then wire them to the pre-break lugs on the rear socket. Then go from the post break, rear lugs, back to the front, into the holes left vacant by the front socket?

Does that make sense?
I had to read it three times, but yes, that would make sense. :)

The biggest problem would be breaking the joint between the socket and the pcb, not impossible but a bit fiddly.

This is the cable i was thinking of getting for it, it's a 6 core plus 1 earth cable. I wouldn't know where to send the earth cable to though and it's probably pointless isn't it?
You can use that cable, but you only actually need a single core plus shield.
The earth connection isn't optional, it won't work without it. :)

The earth cable is used to connect the 'sleeve' contacts of the two sockets together.
The cores are used to carry signals from the 'tip'contacts.
If you try and replace the earth braid with core cable you'll most likely get an awful hum.

Yeah it has the contacts in the jack socket that (excuse the poor terminology here, i too am tired) "spread" open when the jack is inserted. What i was thinking of doing was running 4/6 wires from the solder terminals underneath the front input, lightly twisting them together (to keep them neat) and putting heat shrink tubing over them to keep the out the way then just copying the wire layout on to a jack socket that's the same as the front input one.
I suspect it might not be that simple.
When you insert a jack plug it does two things, first up it connects the signal to the input of the amplifier, secondly it quite possibly removes a connection from something else (an anti thump ircuit for example).

Worst case scenario is that you 'might' need to stick a jackplug into whichever socket you aren't using.

If that's the case, and I never wanted to use the front socket again, I'd be inclined to slide a couple of thin plastic shims between the socket contacts and 'arms' to break that front socket connection. :)

3. Nothing wrong with doing that.

A couple of things to remember though.

1) Make sure you put a cloth anywhere that swarf could get or you'll end up risking a short circuit.
I'd use it as a good excuse to get the hoover out and give everything a thorough (gentle) dust afterwards.

2) Your warranty (if you have one) will be void.

3) If you're running from the front to the back of the amp, you'll probably be needing to used shielded cable.

HTH :)

4. Having only just recently started accessing the site using Android, one thing I have noticed is that the 'full site' mode sometimes fails and gets stuck in 'mobile' mode.

After a bit of experimenting, I've discovered that going back to the homepage and reselecting 'full site'from there works, but hitting 'full site' from further in doesn't.

Not a very good fix unfortunately, but it's a workaround of sorts. :)

EDIT: I think the problem is because there's a 'Use Mobile Site' link sat directly beneath the link that tales you back to the homepage - very easy to hit the wrong link unless you're using a mouse.

5. Whilst not trying to justify ticket touting, I can see the rationale for using the ticket agencies.

Rehearsal space, publicity materials, venue booking fees, transport costs, PA costs - the list goes on and on and will have been paid for upfront.

You decide you need £90 a ticket to cover those costs and make a suitable profit.

Then you have a choice - you can either pay people to take that money for you and deal with any complaints plus credit card fees and tie up some more money in the process - or you can sell the whole lot at face value to an agency and get your investment and your profit back in one hit.

The actual mechanism is very similar to a supplier - retailer relationship, but the 'trade prices' are advertised on the product being sold.

Presumably his Paypal account is linked to at least a credit card or bank account, and that would be linked to his address.
Yep. :)

Is there a legal means of extracting the information from Paypal and from the bank it's linked to?
That's the catch.
The police can get that information, but only as part of a criminal investigation.
The 'default' setting for this sort of thing is that it's a civil matter.

7. Perhaps not a universally popular piece of advice, but do away with the effects pedals for a while and spend some time on raw technique.

Firstly, you're going to have to 'unlearn' bad habits to relearn good ones, and it's easier to do that sooner rather than later.

Secondly, if you're inadvertently relying on effects to disguise technique that needs tidying up then you're always going to have to play with effects. There will come a time when they aren't appropriate.

Once you're satisfied with your clean technique add the pedals back into the equation. :)

8. An ex BT colleague of mine told me about an early shipment of transmitters they'd ordered from a factory in Japan.
The contract was for 2000 transmitters and no more than 3% of them should be failures.

Delivery day arrived, and as it was an extremely expensive order, two Japanese engineers had flown over to ensure everything went smoothly.

The BT engineers unloaded the packing crates throughout the day and eventually got to a cardboard box sat on it's own in the far corner of the depot.

When the Japanese engineers were asked about the box they replied "we put the 3% failures you requested in a separate box".

Not only were those radios faulty, but all the others worked continuously for over 15 years before technology moved on and they were decommissioned.

That's Quality Control. :)

It's not preparing to fail, because no business that cares so little about selling basses that they're dusty and badly set up is reliant on sales of those items.
It's not about what you care about, it's about getting your initial investment back with as healthy a profit margin that the marketplace will allow.

Now - fetch your cloth Milty... :)

Basses move slowly whether they're presented the best way possible, or dusty with old strings.
If you don't keep your stock clean your chances of a sale are reduced and, if you do manage to sell the item, you'll be doing it at a knockdown price and losing margin.

That's a business preparing itself to fail for the sake of a duster.

11. In fairness, the 'setup' thing is never going to be right.

I'm a real picky b*gg*r with setups and the chances are that if I played a bass belonging to anyone here I'd not like the way it had been done.
Equally, if that person picked one of my basses up they'd feel exactly the same. :)

The best solution I've ever experienced was in a Hertfordshire shop that, sadly, is no longer with us.
They gave every instrument a vague setup and, once you'd bought it, you'd go up to the top floor workshop and sit with their dedicated tech who would set it up exactly how you wanted it.

I bought a Telecaster out of guitar guitar in Glasgow a while back, and the salesman was not letting on the sunburst one I wanted, had a big gouge out the back. I noticed and opted for a wine coloured one but I was quite disappointed that A, he didn't mention it and 2, he never offered a decent discount if I was prepared to take it.
Discount?

That's reliced mate. ;)

I'm afraid I have zero tolerance on this. If a shop wants to sell stuff then it should be presented for sale. If it isn't, they don;t want to sell it and so they won't.

I am the customer and don't have to make any effort at all. The owner wants my money, not the other way round.

+1

I was a Group Manager for a high street chain a number of years ago.
I directly managed a shop of my own and also another 16.

I would always make a point of visiting loss making stores and, in the vast majority of cases, I would always find the same things:

1) Products in stockroom not displayed in the shop.
2) Dusty products on display.
3) Incorrect, missing or grubby POS material.
4) Empty wall spaces in shop.
5) Unvacuumed carpets.
6) Out of date window displays.
7) 'Couldn't give a damn' staff attitudes.

IME, if I could tick boxes 1) to 6) then 7) was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Having meetings at their HQ was always fun. The main meeting on doubled as storage for all the latest lingerie and all,of their staff (excluding the one bloke) wore AP underwear at all times - or so we were told, we nevertheless got any proof other than obvious stocking seams and flashes of frilly bras!
Humph. <_<

All I got were a glimpse of semiconductors and an occasional floppy.

I worked with Agent Provocateur for a while. My main job was to check every display photograph was correct and matched th product description. It was tough job but someone had to do it. . . :)

How is the limp now Barrie? ;) :P
