1. I've been using an Ibanez SR505 for a few years now as my main "workhorse".
Reliable, stays in tune, fast neck and doesn't weigh a ton like my ESP.
It came with Elyxir's on it and I've carried that on so far - although I've a hankering to try the Roto Nexus - as soon as they add a 5 string set to their range...

2. If there are three wires coming from each PUP (one of them connected to the + side of the battery) then they're active and need to be swapped for passive ones if you strip out the active tone control circuitry.

If there are just two wires coming from the PUP then they are passive and can be rewired to work without the active circuit.

3. I used to have an HA3000 that had a problem similar to the one you are describing here.

Try plugging a cable from the "Send" socket to the "Return" socket - that sorted mine out until I could do arrange to do a more permanant repair on it.

Unfortunately, Hartke have had a pretty poor reputation for PCB quality over the years and my problem didn't get resolved until I resoldered vast quantities of dry joints on the underside of the pre-amp board.

4. I think you might have your red\black and white wires the wrong way round.

Take a look at this:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wirin...c=std_jazz_bass

This would make the white wires hot and the red and black ones not (as they're soldered to the pot casing).

5. Hi everyone.
My name is Ian and I'm a recovering alcoho... damn - wrong website... :)

After having skulked around here for over a year now I thought it was probably time to say "hi" to everyone and stop being a forum stalker.

I'm 46yrs old and have been a bass player for the last 30 of those (with odd forays into playing other instruments from time to time).
Mostly stuck with folk, folk-rock and what is now called "roots" music for much of that time but have played in rock, jazz, blues, C&W and covers bands along the way.
I play in several bands and dep as required in others, so I'm usually out playing about three or four times a month.

Instrument wise I use:
Ibanez SR505 - skinniest neck I've ever found on a 5 string.
Fender Fretless Jazz - timeless classic but with updated Seymour Duncan tone control circuit.
ESP LTD 6 string - causing much consternation to the two guitarists in one band I play in.
Aria ProII SB900 - an original that I bought new back in the 80's and still use today.
Takamine 4 string Acoustic Bass - hidden at the back of the music room as my wife doesn't know about it... yet...
NS WAV4 upright - feel the floor vibrate...

Amplification is a Peavey Tour 700 and a choice of 1x15" and/or 2x10" Warwick cabs (or both if I'm feeling evil :) ) and the usual smattering of effects.

Anyhow, this has been me and it's probably time for me to go back into hiding now

Ian
