1. Yesterday, I gave up my Squier Vintage Modified P-bass...and got the Pete Wentz signature bass instead. I'd had my eye on it for a while - the perlescant red pickguard and maple neck caught my eye!! Plus it got such good reviews from everyone who's ever played one. The only problem was, my local guitar shop couldn't seem to get hold of one for me! Normally I'd just buy online, but I like to play instruments before I shell out several hundred pounds on them, and I'm fairly loyal to that shop. Anyway, I got the VM P-bass instead, even though I really don't like white. They finally got the Wentz bass in last week. It was the hardest decision of my life! The VM had really grown on me (and didn't have that stupid bat decal...), but the sound that thing can produce and the slightly slimmer jazz neck on the PW swung it (and that damn pickguard too!) and I ended up trading. I figure if (when!) I get really good and actually start to play gigs, I can mod it to hell and back too Plus, I'll be a better bassest than him as I'll actually be PLAYING LIVE, rather than jumping round the stage like an idiot flailing my arms around X3 So what do people think? Have I done the right thing?
  2.
I think I'm surprised that you want to hide the identity of a scammer. Give us the protection of knowing who this guy is.
I disagree somewhat - there's no proof that this guy IS a scammer, though it does sound like he very well might be! In there situations it's always better to give the benefit of the doubt, as you never know and it would be horribly unfair to drag someone's name through the mud if they ARE simply an innocent buyer with bad taste in user names. Cancel the bids. If you've stated that you won't accept bids from newbie ebayers then you've covered your back with ebay. I've sold a LOT of stuff on ebay, and it really is better to be safe than sorry!! If he wants it that badly he'll email you. If he does really want it and you do decide to sell to him in the end, make sure it's cash in hand collection only, stops him from reversing the charge through paypal.
  3. I have one to add ^^ HTH = hope this helps Be careful with W/E and WE - W/E is generally accepted as meaning weekend, where WE usually means whatever! Doesn't always follow but still Then there's also the 'picture' ones; OTL : commonly used to symbolise failure. Doesn't mean anything specifically, but it looks like someone kneeling with their head down (the 'O' being the head, 'T' the arms and 'L' the legs). I believe that this originated in Korea. \o/ : throwing your arms up in the air, usually used as an expression of joy or surprise =3 : is a smiley face with a kitty mouth! Alternative versions include; :3 X3 and very occasionally =^_^= I'm sure I have more but I'm struggling to think of any atm.

    Hey there

Wow, thank you to everyone, you're all so kind hopefully I'll be able to stop lurking soon and actually contribute to some meaningful discussion here! I'm glad I'm not too old, I love music so much! All I've ever wanted to do was play for the enjoyment of other people
Maybe get a good teacher to speed things up for you and give you confidence. I wish I'd done that early on.
I've got the most amazing teacher, he's so entusiastic about music in general!! He knows his stuff, but also knows how to make the lessons really fun, where all teachers I've come across before have been pretty boring and only like to work from books!! I get to go at my own pace (which is apparently faster than is normal...I THINK that's a good thing...) and play stuff that interests me. Also, he spurs me on, telling me I'm doing really well and stuff. He's keeping an eye out for people around my ability so that I'll be able to see what it's like to play in a band environment ^^ I agree with you so totally and completely about getting a teacher, though I keep getting told it's a waste of money, I should sit and work it out on my own (bleh), all by other guitarists and bass players! So much negative thought around me! But yeah, I'd recommend it to anyone

    Hey there

Hey, I'm a total newbie to all this! Been leaning bass for all of maybe a month now, moved on from acoustic because all I ever really wanted to do was play bass (and chords got REALLY boring...) Anyway, I have a Squier P-bass (she's lovelyyyyy ) and a 15W Ashdown amp, since at the moment I pretty much only play to myself and I don't think the neighbours would be too happy if I was rattling their windows! As I'm really new to this, I've not got much of a musical repertoire, but I like to play rock and alt stuff. I'm also a total geek as I'm learning the Tetris theme right now!! I've been told I'm 'too old' to start learning bass (I'm 24) with the idea of eventually playing little gigs with my own band and that I need to 'grow up'. I decided to join here because I'm looking for less negative conversations about bass I really am rubbish at these intro things and don't know what else to put now! So hi, that's me, be nice and I'm sorry if I get confused at all
