1. well I'm not sure what year my Phillip Kubicki EX Factor is. I know I bought it in an around 1991-92. It says on the back of the headstock Custom shop Fender USA. I do know that whatever mode I'm playing it is loud and clear. No matter where my Pan is set at either. I just use the standard .45 gauge strings and I am good to go. I only have one 9v battery in it. I am assuming that I have a post fender Kubicki EX Factor. I know that I called and actually Talked to Phillip Kubicki about it and he said that he separated from Fender. I am not sure what voltage it is exactly. I do know that for equalization the signal can be boosted to 17dB in the active modes by the battery powered solid state electronics. Again for the strings I prefer the .045 .065 .085 .105 stainless. I do know that you can get them from Kubicki for $30.00 a set and shipped outside the USA for only $11.00. Not A bad deal. If anyone has any other questions I do still have my owners manual that came with the bass. I just wish that I would have kept my fist ex factor that I had in white. It has a horrible paint job on it. So I called Phillip Kubicki and I actually got to talk to him personally about the bass. He sincerely apologized for the bass and asked me to send it to him for him to take a look at it. He called me back directly himself when he saw the bass and said it was his fault for the horrible paint job and was going to replace it for free with a brand new one. Well I asked him if I could get it in black instead with his autograph. He said that for 500.00 I could get one that was damaged a little bit in someway ( say a scratch or a little dent, something very very minor). So I said yes and paid him the $500.00 and he sent with it 2 sets of strings with it. So when I got the bass in 2 days it did come in black, however, it was not damaged in anyway. I looked and looked and finally realized that he sent me a brand new EX Factor in black with his autograph and 2 sets of strings for $500.00. For that act of kindness I will always bye my stings from him. To me they just sound the best when they are on!!!!!! 2. Hey Pete, Well I found out what I have here In the black SB-1000. Hello, your black SB-1000 is actually an SB-1010. It is exactly like the SB-1000 in every way...(cue 'suspenseful' Dr. Evil music). Except medium scale. It's listed in my '86 Japanese catalog, and I had a Japanese bassist tell me what the description meant. OK, it's not exactly the same in every way. It's a medium scale version of the SB-1000, scaled down for Japanese players - smaller body, headstock and of course the scale. The bridge is different as you also noticed. The BB Circuit is the same... There is no photo here, just the description, SB-1010. It's such a rare bass! Hi, I just posted about your bass, the SB-1010. Do you mind if I use some of the pics to make a post of it on my blog? I'd give you credit for the pics of course and a link if you'd like. It's such a rare bass! I think I've only seen two or three others on the Japanese auction site and on Graeme Fyfe's Aria SB pages... Well It looks like I have something extreamly special and rare. I have to say it sounds so good and play so well too. I was extreamly lucky when I bough this In Japan that it turned out to be this rare!!!! Jason
3. hello to all. I have two SB-1000 basses. That is pretty much all I know about them. I know one ( my Oak one ) must be a re issue. There is no serial number on the back and all the hardware is gold and has the normal body you would see on it. Now my other SB-1000 is a smaller version of it. It has the serial number on the back which tells me it is a 1985 model. Now everything about this bass is smaller. The headstock is smaller, as well as the body. All the hardware is also chrome, not gold plated. The bride is much wider than my oak one. I just need some help in letting me know what the heck I have here. All help is welcome. I'm attaching some pic's for you all to take a look at. The Oak SB-1000 I bought in 1995 for $600.00. It came with all the gold hardware but there was no serial number on it letting me know when it was produced. So I virtually know nothing about this bass. My black SB-1000 I bought in Japan and had it shipped here. According to the serial number on the back it is telling me that it was produced in 1985. Now the real question is, this bass is much smaller than my Oak one. The body is smaller, the headstock is shorter, the scale length is 32 inches (not 34) and the neck is wider where it joins the body. The bridge is chrome and wide, not gold and narrow like on other SB1000s. So what the heck do I have in this black SB, and really the oak one as well. I'm going to post some pic's here for you all to look at and I will post a link to my photobucket account as well. All help is welcome. I am just really stumped. 4. Hey I have heard that the SB-1000 5 sting will be for sale like the 4 sting version. I'm not sure when they will be available in Europe. I'm here in the states and can purchase a RI for $2300.00 with gig bag and a set of strings. I have a link that might help you out. It's all in Japanese though. But there is some English as well. I hope this helps you out!!!! http://www.ariaguitars.com/jp/02prod/0102eb/sb10005b.html
5. hello to all. I have two SB-1000 basses. That is pretty much all I know about them. I know one ( my Oak one ) must be a re issue. I bought the Oak one in 1995 and with all the gold hardware it has to be the first RI, or so I think. The black SB-1000 I bought in Japan and has the 5123291 telling me that the bass was produced in 1985. My problem is that is much smaller than my Oak SB-1000. I am totally at a loss for this. Plus all the hardware is chrome and the bridge is much bigger and higher up on the bass. So if ANYONE can help I would really appreciate it. Here are some pic's on my photobucket account........ 6. Hey all I have a Phillip Kubicki ex factor in black. I just generally go to my local music store and by a set of strings with the end's in black if I can. This is generally what i use and they work great for it. Gauge .045 .065 .085 .105 Now it would be up to you on weather or not you want to use nickel or stainless. With that set of stings you will still be able to drop to D instantly when you release the string clasp and visa verse when you want to go back to E. So hopefully that will work for you. here is the link to my photobucket http://s1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa325/...llip%20Kubicki/
