1. wow, alright, double bass, I was just thinking electric bass! that's nice to know though, thanks.
2. I'm moving to London (from the US) this week, and have hopes I can get into a band & some gigs. I've lived in the UK (Oxford) before and had a car, but didn't really plan on a car in London (don't even know where I'll end up - probably west i.e. Notting Hill Gate etc). Do you find that you can get around the tube or buses fine for practice & gigs or do most people have a car? These days with a gig bag and tiny amps/combos it seems feasible to use public transport (although I've never tried it!).
3. looks nice, do you get to London? I'm not sure if a trip to Sunderland is feasible for me. I'm moving to London (arrive next Thursday) to do a PhD at Imperial, and will need a bass (I'm lugging 3 guitars from the states but my basses seemed too much to haul over). I guess this is "Made in Korea"? Is it tuned in 4ths usually or like a 7-string guitar an octave down?
4. oh I don't mind, it was a nice bass (my Lakland DJ5), and I didn't really need the money, but with this overseas move it was just going to gather dust. It's just a crappy market I guess (look at all the stuff on talkbass that is really nice but doesn't seem to be moving). good luck on your sale.
5. looks nice, how did you appraise it? I see them on ebay (in the US) not selling at US $2500. It's a terrible market now with the recession though; I just sold a Lakland Skyline DJ5 with Nordstrand pickups for a "whopping" $900... (just over half what I put into it)
6. wow - it would be humbling to have a bass with parts older than Stonehenge!
7. it looks nice, is that the model called "American Deluxe" (there's so many damn variations of Fender instruments nowadays)? I am scheduled to fly over to London next week and am interested if it's still available then.
8. Hi, I'm moving to London in a week and interested in joining a band as bassist or guitarist (or both depending on the situation). I have pretty good chops in all styles, grew up on prog rock (have been in various Yes & Genesis tribute bands as guitarist & bassist). Also played lounge jazz/Real Book sort of gigs on guitar & bass; as well as the usual "rock cover bands" and funky horn bands (Tower of Power, Steely Dan etc). Bear in mind that I'm a fat balding old git so if you want to make music videos in spandex I'm probably not what you're looking for. I haven't visited my own myspace page in awhile but it should be up at: http://myspace.com/carlgt1
9. Hi, thanks, yeah I hope I'll have better luck in London with bands -- video killed the radio star - and DJ's killed the bass star! ;-)
10. Hi all, I've been on talkbass for awhile and just discovered this board thanks to a UK member there. I'm moving to London (from Philadelphia) next week to work & take up a PhD in Engineering at Imperial. I've been playing guitar & bass since I was a kid -- mostly prog rock & jazz & some classical on guitar, and jazz & funk & prog rock on bass. I'm currently debating whether I should bring a bass over or whether it's simpler to just buy one in London (I already have a lot of stuff e.g. personal effects to bring on the plane!) I'd also love to join a band either as guitarist or bassist but not sure if the London music scene is 99% DJ's now (that's how it is on the US east coast unfortunately).
