  1. I think a yearly subscription is fine if it means becoming a full member with all access etc.

I do think however, that to place an individual ad at £7 is steep, especially if it fails to sell and also remember that ebay have free listing weekends every month, with no sale, no fee.
Im sure many will start using the ebay option for smaller item sales. In fact, many items often end up there as it is the biggest online marketplace.

I think the initial proposed ad price was fair as was the free listings for lower value items.
Im sure the people who run the site could have raised the rates for business ads instead. Must be many bass-related businesses willing to advertise on a busy forum like this.

  2. As long as there is an obvious thread like before, for discussion amongst lefties, minus the selling of gear, peeps can interact as before.
It was great meeting other southpaws.

Personally, I cant understand why the lefty thread was removed. I would have simply changed its title.
Im sure something will get sorted out.

  3. I have owned a '78 Fender Musicmaster and a '68 Gibson EBO. The Fender was a piece of crap and I fitted a Seymour Duncan replacement pickup to make it acceptable. I only used it in a covers band. Didnt think it good enough for anything else.

On the other hand I loved the EBO and wish I still had it but lack of funds meant I needed to sell at the time to get a decent all-rounder. The EBO was pure bottom end and very muddy which meant a change in playing style to articulate the notes but the short scale was great. In fact, now I have some spare dosh burning a hole Ive been eyeing up the modern SG bass.

Like others here, I dont have a problem switching between a bass like this and say, my 34" scale Warwick Thumb.

  4. Jaco had become more of a conposer and bandleader than just a bassplayer and he was composing on bass using different tunings so I could have easily seen him move on to 5+6 string basses. He was using Hartke cabs and Guild basses too. He would have eventually retired his famous jazzes.

  5. As long as the headstock shape is same as a real P bass then for "looks" why not.

I had a P bass copy and fitted a Fender decal and it really looked the biz, exactly like my real P bass decal. I never tried to fool anyone it was the real deal if they asked me though.

    Go for it.

  6. Now that the Big Market Thread For Lefties has been closed because of new subscription rules there should begin a new lefty thread created for general discussion of all matters related to being left handed, from lack of models made by manufacturers, new instrument reviews, to high profile lefty players etc.

This thread can also help direct people to instruments available elsewhere on the site and discussion of gear seen and heard across the web.

    What does everyone think?

  7. Please put up a homepage declaration about why you are now going to charge for marketplace ads and why you cannot just increase in-page advertising and increase rates to advertisers. This site is going to become as greedy as ebay. Yes, many are drawn to the site to look at or utilise the marketplace but thats no reason to raise money at the members' expense.

Just my opinion. I'll be using leftybass.com from now on.

  8. I dont see any 'community' spirit in s psy to display website. Revenue can easily be gotten from willing advertisers. No need to introduce charges for enthusiasts. Next they will be charging per year just to be a member.

Im sure rhis direction will simply have members looking elsewhere and finding other bass forums or starting their own if they have the know-how.

  9. If they expect people to pay now to sell gear on here everyone will use ebay instead as has a larger online presence.
Fair enough to ask for donations but the site should be completely free. Im sure there is plenty opportunity for page advertising from all sorts of music suppliers etc.

Steer clear of that one. It's a fraudulent listing. Yves Carbonne owns that bass and I've been reporting it to ebay every time it gets relisted.

No worries. Could tell it was a dodgy listing. Thanks for the heads up!
