1. I was in the position of the bass not being my first instrument so had been lucky to play plenty over the years from band mates and in jams etc. When I bought my P Bass I knew exactly what I wanted (a brand new American deluxe P) and played every example I could both here and in the US until I found the one. Six years later and I'm still convinced I was right.

As there is no 'like' button on a post I thought I would just say how nice it was for you to go to the trouble of helping the OP like that.

  3. I'd love to be able to slap. I've sent the last two years learning finger style as I was a pick only player before. Controlling dynamics was the big challenge and still is. I sometimes use thumb and fingers and would like to develop that more (kind of a soft slap and pop I guess).

  4.
Does this mean that, at least for covering most mainstream music, the written sheets lack the detail ?
Yes, if what was on the record wasn't what was transcribed :)

The big thing about music over tab is rhythm and some sense of feel/volume as well.

I'm odd in that I know a whole lot of music theory (I have some formal musical training some of which was quite recent) but only know 3 notes on the fret board by name. I know the patterns for the intervals but don't know any scales.

Filling in the gaps shouldn't take long.

    :)

6 weeks seems like ever such a long time. 6 days is too much no?

  6. I have a question that is kind of related.

I know the above notation is E A D G what I want to confirm is that it relates to the actual notes you would get if you played open strings to get it. Does that make sense?

  7. This is my pet hate. A shop advertising something as in stock when they know full well it isn't is fraudulent. It's really damaging to industry as a whole as there is no incentive for online shops to keep inventory anymore if they are getting sales pulled form under them by stores telling porkies. There was an extreme example some time ago where it turned out the company had absolutely zero stock despite have 100s of items marked as such on their website.

  8. Hi, my names Ant, I'm 35 and live in Orpington Kent.

I bought a bass a few years back (Fender P Bass the one with the odd S-1 switch). I also play drums and guitar although recently I've not touched either.

I play my bass everyday, I'm into learning more about the instrument, getting some more technique and working on my groove.
