  1. This is a fascinating thread. I've got a 2 octave controller (and a full size stage piano) and have used VST instruments for my synth parts. I've not done it for a long time though, the alst thing I did must have been 5 years ago and I was using a lot of very low sounds.

You need a cheap electronic kit for a bit of home practice.

I've thought about it a lot. I've got a V Drum practice thing that I do my rudiments and stick control stuff on

Trouble is when I played drums last month my feet didn't work any more :) It's a shame as I used to be OK at it.

It took us years to find a drummer who was good but only into the odd get together, mostly they at least wanted a gigging band, luckily we found a decent one in the end, I'd like to set up a similar thing closer to home but the thought of trying to locate another drummer is putting me off.

That would have suited me down to the ground. I'd do that now if I had somemeans of practicing at home.

  4. I have been a musical fraud for years. Learnings songs, playing the same stuff over and over, not knowing any of the notes on the fret board etc.

I decided to change that this week and have started working hard. I'm not instant on the notes yet but I know where they are with a second or so thought. I've been learning the actual notes in scales (and the intervals to make them rather than just learning it parrot fashion) and then applying that to the fretboard rather than just learn a shape (which I didn't really know either).

I came home from work, found the chords to a song I liked and gradually built up my own bassline based on the chord notes (not just root and fifths based on shapes).

I've got a good book on Scales am going to have a lesson soon and am generally feeling good about it all.

  5. As a Duran Duran fan I'll be predictable.
