Valve Amp - who’s still using them?
After nearly 40 yrs playing i think i've tried every make and model there is, there's tons of great valve amps but IMO nothing compares to a 70s SVT

X-Blender as new with box - Don't loose your bottomend.
Mix wet and Dry signals on the fly. It gives you serial and parallel effects loop capability on your pedalboard but with the added features of a pre-amp with gain, eq and boost options, you don't lose signal when kicking in vintage pedals either. "Aux send/return" function preserves the integrity of the guitar's signal. The X-Blender incorporates pro-audio engineering technology to solve the sonic imperfection some effects produce and was designed to be completely transparent. You'll be amazed by the clarity of the sound! A particularly useful feature is the large blend knob you can operate with your feet for fine-tuning fx levels.
True bypass Can be used in a serial or parallel effect loop
IN, OUT, SEND and RETURN connections
Foot switch for Blend on/off
FX Phase switch (invert/normal)
Boost Switch (+6 dB)
Volume, bass and treble control with centre button
Power supply with 9 V battery or 9 VDC power supply (not included) +Delivery/postage

Yeah i have to agree on your mini review skidder and congrats, it looks to be in good shape.
I've been using SVT's now for 28 yrs and that's the reason why - A thick rich tone with unbelievable power, you have to try it through an 8x10" to appreciate what it is capable of.
I've never tried anything that I consider to come close and every other amp i've tried, fails in comparision.
The only trade off is the weight and the risk of going deaf ! -
Bill Hughes the inventor of the SVT recently posted on TalkBass forums that the 60s + 70s versions will work with an 8 ohm cab without any damage. Not so sure about the more modern ones but as a temp measure it may not harm it if you dont push it too hard.
-
Well worth it IMO.. the sound created from an SVT out weighs the weight it weighs !

Ampeg B15, closely followed by my '74 SVT and 810. I don't mind the weight and size etc. it's a small price to pay to experience their wonder.

I played through of of those god awful stryper looking amps once, mark's bass or something.
Never again.... never ever again, hated it. -
Personally i believe that markbass are the worst sounding amps that i've ever used. "uncoloured" WTF then why has my bass sounded similar through other makes of amp until i plug it into one of those stryper amps. 20 years of playing a Precision through so many different amps that i can care to remember and many have varied in tone, but not to that low mid honk extent that a markbass makes.
Amp discussions are always going to be down to personal taste but i'd take most other amps on the market befored id ever buy a markbass. -

You might know how to EQ your Ampeg, but it doesn't sound like you know how to set up the F1.
Having heard an F1 through a Markbass 2x10 I can confirm it didn't sound "horrible, flat and lifeless". Although you didn't say what kind of 2x10 it was, so I could be wrong there.
I also know some basses do sound crap through Markbass gear, but will sound good through things like Ampegs (& vice versa of course).
[/quote]
Yeah i totally agree with you. My P has low output vintage style pickups. I only give it a quick tweak when i get up to play and it's usually to increase the gain and add a bit of top end, It's one of those F1 2x10 combos.
Incidently most other muso's there at the gig commented that my bass does sound really good through it. Sound / tone is subjective and a personal preference.
