If you're worried about too much 'cantilever effect', you could always lower the action

If you changed the bridge to a laterally adjustable type, you could quite easily achieve 17.5 to 18mm spacing. Looks like the pickups are more suited to this, as the strings appear near the edge of the fingerboard and don't run centrally above the pole pieces.

I echo the sentiments of AttitudeCastle. I like the concept, but the execution less so (it doesn't look good IMO, when you compare it against a THR for instance). If they made it look a bit sleaker, put some protective grilles on the front, and removed the VU meter, I'd consider it. For a 'bedroom' concept, I'm not sure 75Watts is necessary, as this can still be anti-social in a bedsit or a semi. For a practice amp, 30Watts is plenty and would allow the unit to be smaller and probably cheaper.

I'm no expert, but it looks ok to me.

Would look great in a Daft Punk video, but is not really a practical proposition IMO.

I like working stuff out by ear as this gives me a far greater sense of achievement. I also admit to having sneaked a peek at Yootoob to get an idea of some trickier stuff when I've needed it in a hurry.

What strings are you using? Sometimes changing strings can solve the problem.

It's unusual you mention the A and G strings, rather than the D and G. I've found with lighter gauge strings that the D and G can be comparatively quieter.

It may also help recording yourself playing the bass and then listenening back at different volumes, to ensure there are no other factors at play. There are too many variables to isolate the problem.

The PJB Bighead and headphones are superior at highlighting the inadequacies of the instrument and players capabilities, compared with an amp/speaker in a room at all variables associated with that. Therefore, perservering with the headphone amp will hone your playing to a level where you'll sound cleaner and produce a more even attack. Stick with it and you'll grow to like the tone

I don't believe the GK3 pickup will work with bronze acoustic strings. You may need to switch to steel strings.

Alternatively, try the more sensible suggestions above

Does your midi keyboard have usb? If so, you should be able to connect direct to the laptop.

Something like the K&K sound 2-channel battery preamp will do it. For something more sophisticated, have you considered a twin channel rack preamp?

Use your Markbass as a preamp or a separate preamp. This should liven up your tone, although there was nothing much wrong with your tone, it will give it more oomph.

No hot tips, you just need to keep at it. Practice, practice and practice some more, until you can do it.
