This has probably been posted before (perhaps by me), but this is an absolute classic that can't be listened to too much:

This is indeed an incredible album. One of my favourites.

  2. Well let's start with anything played by the great famiily Barrett, he was my first bass hero.

Whilst I have played the odd Bob Marley & the Wailers song with various bands. In a few weeks time i'm about to do a dep gig with a Bob Marley Tribute band which will be my first gig where the whole set is covering his music.

I'm really gonna be happy at the end of that gig. 🙂😁

Other than that Stanley Clarke & Marcus Miller tracks that are within my dexterity. A couple of weeks ago i decided to learn Josie by Steely Dan that was great fun and once i'd got the hang of it I found a you tube no bass track of that song so I could play along. At some point I will try to download the track and record my bass over it to hear what it sounds like.

Actually most of the bass tracks I have learnt make me really happy playing, more so if in a gigging context.

I just spent the afternoon listening to SC - I enjoy some of the tones that he gets out of his Series I but others not so much.  I agree re: the low pass filters, they can produce some pretty mundane tones alongside the extraordinary.  I too have an SII but it's a four.  I was just thinking the other day, I'm not sure I've ever really spent much time with a Ric - I've certainly not owned one (or a Musicman).  I shall seek out a Ric this weekend - thanks for the thread - I'm inspired.

I Spent part of yesterday afternoom watching SC live in concert. Incredible gig.

  4. I went to see the concert last night. The band were so young and incredible musicians, and Stanley of course is a legend and performed superbly.

i was fortunate to meet them at their hotel after the gig. Mainly because Stanley's road manager had a couple of his own cd's for me to play on my radio programme. Anyway i got to have a chat with Stanley and he introduced me to his wife. I asked him if there was a reason he didn't play his alembics and he said it was because of the acoustics. It a depends on the venue since many of the theatre venues they play, an electric bass is too boomy in the room, so in those places he would use the acoustic for the gig.

To be honest i really love his db playing as much as his electric playing so it didn't affect my enjoyment.

To cheer up the last Friday in April and move into a long weekend, I was thinking about exactly which bass I would love to try. Not something I've tried before, owned before or such like. Something I might have only read about or seen on the Net. I have decided I'd love to try an Alembic Series II five stringer. What would your pick be?

The bass I dreamed about playing was also an alembic and now I consider myself extremely fortunate to own such a bass and, it surpassed everything i expected from it. I know they are not the sound that everyone likes but for me it's a dream bass fulfilled. I hope you get to try one out one day. I have to say getting your head round using low pass filters does take some getting used to. All the best.

  6. I'm also interested in a One10 cab but wondering about the difference between that one and a One10T cab.

My Big twin has a tweeter in and I like that crispness in the sound. It is unlikely a One10 will be for gigging, mainly for home practice and small band rehearsal sessions.  I don't have much experience with cabs that do not have a tweeter, with two on sale on the site and i am wondering whether I would find the top end lacking if I bought one.

So in need of a quick late night practice on the EUB, I remembered that the Stanley Clarke has both a headphone out and an aux in socket. Tried it for the first time and I’m impressed. It’s certainly quicker than setting up the laptop, interface, etc. and great for a bit of late night noodling. Can’t believe I haven’t tried this earlier 🤦‍♂️

Most of my use of mine is for practice. I take it on gigs where a backline is provided and send Di to PA and jack output to power amp input or the return jack on the provided bass amp. Superb unit.

The bass is a neck through design made from maple and purpleheart. Ebony  There is an inlay of my initials in the 12th fret which was done by Jaydee custom guitars about 12 years or so ago plus and my name engraved on the truss rod cavity which i may be able to remove if if is a deal breaker or the buyer can just reverse it. The switches are mounted on chrome plated washers as a few years i installed some East ACG filter based electronics which required enlarging the existing switch holes to fit the filter controls. The original electronics have been back in the bass for ages now but I had to get larger washers mount the original switches.  If I can find some black washers I will install those instead.

The back control cavity cover is gold plated and was like that when i bought the bass. What else can I say. Well it is a great sounding bass and i am only selling it because it is not getting enough playing time so i'd rather it went to someone who will give it more attention.
Send me a PM if interested. I have an original case for it also.

Some information from the Alembic web site.

    EUROPA

With its elegant and understated form, the Europa bass is the type of instrument you return to again and again, and each time you're reminded of why you love this bass so much. From the moment you wear it on strap, comfort and balance greet you. Plugging into the side mounted jack gives a satifying "kerchunk" in response. Once your amp warms up, the tone that piqued your interest in the first place comes flowing back. This bass is home.

Quick tone change switches give instant access to useful on-the-fly sounds. When you're ready to take that solo, you can simply flick the bass and treble switches to the boost position, knowing full well that when you're finished, that original sound is just a click away.

The Europa comes standard with Alembic's classic Maple and Purpleheart neck lamination pattern. This engineered beam supports even response across the Ebony fingerboard, and assures that snappy Alembic brilliance will be delivered at every note.

Like most Alembic basses, Europas are quite happy in a variety of musical settings. Turn the low-pass filters down to 300Hz for deep tones suitable for blues. Turned up to 6KHz, there's plenty of zing for slap or driving rock technique with a pick. Versatility puts the tone control in your heart and your hands.

Since each Europa bass is handcrafted right in our one-and-only shop in Santa Rosa, California, you are able to custom order any aspect of the bass. Custom fingerboard dimensions, wood choices, decorative details, or even things not yet invented are possible.

Here are some soundcloud clips from a rehearsal with this bass.

This is an amazing sounding bass and I have used it on numerous gigs though in recent years I have used it less and less as I have been using my two filter bass more. I would love this bass to go to someone who can get more use out of it than I can.

I would prefer not to post it if at all possible and if you want to try before you buy, i can arrange that in my mate's studio so you can hear it at full bore.

Obviously the guy has spent thousands and thousands on this bass without the chops to get to grips with it, but that's nothing new. Everyone will have seen players who have walls of Alembics yet nothing more exciting than three chord blues. I hope he is getting on better with it now but I expect that it's probably being used as an ornament.

I fail to understand the connection with bass ownership and musical prowess. There is nothing that mandates a certain level of musicianship being required to own any musical instrument. Surely it's personal choice isn't it? For example a friend of mine's dad bought him a Gibson Les Paul when he decided to learn guitar as a teenager. Buy what you like, life is too short. I play alembic in a reggae band and often there are only two chords. 👍🏾😂🎶🔊😁.
