Getting widely noticed amongst the vast oceans of creative people, whether it’s as an artist, musician, writer or film maker… or whatever it is you create, is incredibly difficult. There are tricks in the presentation which can get you on the map, but getting your product to really reach a wider audience is mostly luck, a lot of hard work and a lot of talent. Even then, the chances are mighty slim, no matter how good you are.

That’s an awesome bass…. F*** the ding. If you can get some kind of compensation, that would be good, but otherwise, Keep it and enjoy it

Well….. that’s Saturday sorted
The Fortess, with its freshly fitted Aguilar OBP-1 is immense. What a fabulous thing it is now. Massive output, 18v, two band…. simple but extremely potent.
The Streamer Standard on the left is equally fabulous, but in a LO-FI old school way. Low output, but such a lovely tone…..
I’ve informed Mrs Rayman that I require a Streamer Stage One for Xmas.

Winery Dogs Manchester last night. Awesome. Billy amazing as ever. I hope I have his energy and rock n roll cool when I get to 70!
Now looking at European dates to see if we can see them again later this ‘month.
We had tickets…. but couldn’t go sadly, Mrs Rayman isn’t firing on all cylinders.

Awesome basses. I had two as my main guitars for a couple of years. Great PJ tones, nice and growly, mine were both Korean made, I haven’t tried anything later.
I’m not so keen on the ‘cowpoke’ style black/yellow colour, and I’m not keen on the 5 in line headstock on the 5er, but that’s just personal opinion.
Nice basses indeed. There’s a Robert DeLeo dig one floating around online, around £500 ish, good bass.

I literally just bought a brand new OBP1 🤦♂️ bugger

TI flats on my Epiphone Newport shorty, mudbucker (neck) up full and I get very close indeed to an upright tone, the closest I’ve ever got with any electric bass.
I never managed it with a hollow body.

As pointed out in another thread, many years ago I purchased a brand new rig, a Markbass CMD121P and NY121 extension cab. As soon as I got it home I knew I was in trouble. First rehearsal and subsequent gig confirmed it. Although it was a beautiful thing, light, well built etc…. I found it generic and sterile sounding, and actually ended up selling it and getting my old Ashdown ABM rig back, along with my sound.

Ever had a piece of equipment everyone else raved about….. but when you got the thing… it left you cold?
Ever had a piece of equipment that everyone else hated…. but when you got the thing…. you totally loved it?
Me…
Overrated: Markbass CMD121P (Italian) combo and the 121 extension cab… to me amazing quality but also amazingly dull tone. Hopeless for rock, probably decent for jazz fusion.
Underrated: Warwick Streamer Standard (German). Largely overlooked by folk because of its low output, I absolutely adore mine, the tone is fabulous, it plays itself especially with flats, just turn your amp up!
Just my experience…. how about you?

I agree, dots only on the fretting positions, that's what I have on my unlined fretless, a la Tony Franklin. Nice and clean and simple. I much prefer the look of an unlined neck too..... I've grown to dislike fretlines aesthetically.

Yeah, it's awesome, just the right amount of crunch, although, I'm keen on trying the new Frank Bello Sansamp thing.
I also bought a TC chorus today, so the board's filling up fast.

Yolanda Charles was a big advocate of these…. they didn’t seem to be around long though ?

I can’t wait to get the Aguilar OBP1 into it….. I’m looking forward to hearing that very much.

Yeah the Vampire was never my bag particularly, but…. I’ve been looking at them recently and thinking maybe……
-
Yeah I like them…. Reverend vibes definitely, but at Chinese prices, could be a winner. China is getting better with the build quality…. so, could be worth a punt?

We had it good in the 80/90’s, lower fences, non legal highs and less advanced capitalism 😂
Everything a good festival should be 😉

Have you asked John (KiOgon)?

What model of bass it that? I’m confused

I must admit…. sometimes with jazz…. I feel like I’m a bit thick and don’t get it, like I’m not smart enough to understand? Similarly like reading poetry and feeling a bit stupid when you don’t understand it?

Ashdown, I chatted for half an hour in the office, had a brew…. I could’ve spent the day there….
Warwick, I swapped a few emails with HPW, and was cordially invited to call in and say hello anytime. One day, I’ll turn up cash in hand to buy a SS1…. and have look round.

Grayson Perry, Salford, last night. On the front row, great seats, very comfy, non of this standing up for two hours malarky, very enjoyable night.
And for those who are thinking..... "That's not music related" .....WRONG! He sang two numbers 😉
