    That’s a shame, the other solution would eve to use a WIDI Jack to connect the Core to your laptop/tablet. Not sure if that works for IR Loader etc or just Tone studio.

    I'd say if there was crackling when the knobs were touched, there's a more fundamental problem.

    OK ... it's time to put up my hand for some help.

    I 'sorta' managed to get a working chain on my Dwarf ... but now I'm playing with the GT-1000Core (Core) and am a bit lost (Sadly I've been unable to get Tone Central running on my Mac M1 ... trying to install Win10 on an old laptop, not sure it'll work).

    I'm aiming for a 'ampless style' setup, to do all my tone shaping in the Core and run into my Amp set to super-flat (A holding situation till I can get/build an FRFR unit) or into a PA.

    The online vids I've found with "deep dives" into Core bass patches all seem to assume a level of knowledge beyond mine! (Which is not that great).

    From general bass pedal/chain articles I've sorta landed on the following possibility and would really appreciate your experience/thoughts/comments (I know I'll need to tweak and play but would like to see if this candidate approach has any major flaws/missings/gotchas before I try failing to get it set up 🤣).

    <IN> => <Noise Suppressor 1> => <Compressor> => <Equalizer> => <Divider 1: > => <A:HPF @ 200Hz > & <B:LPF@250Hz>

    <A> => [<FX1:Octave Bass> or <FX1:Overtone> or <FX1:Chorus Bass> (I want to try to get a 'fatter' sound)] => <FX2:Distortion (For occasional use)> => <Mixer1>

    <B> => <Mixer1>

    <Mixer1> => <Reverb(To add some ambience)> => <Foot Volume> => <PreAmp1**> => <Master: Bass Mode On> =><OUT>

    ** - I gather the Core PreAmp is actually the preamp/poweramp and cab all rolled up into one (??)

    Hi Smanth.  Did you manage to get it running on your M1 Mac?  Works fine on mine.  It was a bit fussy when I was using an old USB and the Apple USB-C to HDMI/USB adaptor.  Once I bought a decent USB-C to Micro USB-B it's been rock solid.

  3. I'm in the same boat.  I have the Boss GT-1000 Core and am barely scratching the surface.  90% of the time I'm on a patch with comp and preamp only.  The other 10% has some fuzz.  I keep thinking I should sell it to someone who'd make better use of its capabilities and replace with discreet pedals, pedalboard, PSU etc.  But then, it's going to cost a lot more than I'd get for it even if I just replace with the Boss comp, tuner and Pre.

    Congrats - that sounds really positive! I'm still tempted by one of these! What other digital multis have you previously had?

    Nothing recent.  Line 6 Pod XT is about it.  I have had a play on the GT-100 and had a quick go on the Pod Go last weekend.  For my old originals band a tuner, comp and Rat type distortion did me nicely on bass.

  5. i joined the GT-1000 Core club yesterday.  I've got to say this is the best sounding floor based digital multi I've heard, at least once I'd put it in bass mode.  The ability create 3 virtual loops as well as the preset parallel loops is fantastic.  I too had trouble connecting it to my Mac.  Turned out after an hour of reinstalling drivers etc it was a dodgy USB lead.  D'oh!

  6. Thanks to all those who offered advice.  I found a Boss GT 1000 Core in a local music shop last weekend.  Used but only a few weeks old and in mint condition.  Bargain price for cash, which I didn't have on me last weekend.  I didn't want to post about until it was in my possession, which it has been for the last hour.  Really happy chap right now.  Looking forward to delving into it now.

  7. Lol and the third option has been my path - trading comps and drives for the last far too many years.  If I was still in my originals band, I'd be getting the SA comp and Zio to go with my Aftershock and have all my favourites covered.  But as I'm now doing covers a wider palette of FX is more necessary.  Having read the reviews here, watched reviews on youtube and thought about my needs it's been narrowed down to Stomp or GX.

    Anyone got any opinions on which is the better for OC-2 and filter effects?  I know both will be great at classic modulation effects.

  8. Cheers both.

    Smanth, I used to be an IT geek too.  These days I'm in management and I'm trying to avoid anything too geeky.  It needs to pretty intuitive.  That's one of the reasons I'm considering discreet pedals, but that is going to be the most expensive route long run.

    T-bay, thanks for the feedback on the GX100.  I'm just concerned it doesn't have any line outs.

  9. Yes I know this is a perennial chestnut for Basschat lol.

    Bit of background - Over a decade ago I started playing in an originals band.  All I needed was some dirt, and being a complressor junkie, I went through a few of those as well.  I quit that band almost 6 years ago and, apart from a few gigs where their new bass player wasn't available, I haven't really done much bas playing, just noodling at home on guitar.

    I've recently hooked up with a few other local musicians to play some local open mic nights.  Five songs in and we're learning Uprising by Muse.  Now, I still have an Aftershock, so the fuzz isn't a problem, so I could just get an octave pedal (OC5?).  But then I'd also need a pedal board and a PSU.  And, as our repertoire expands, I foresee modulation(s), filter, compressor (which I now only have in 19" rack format, not really open mic night friendly) etc etc.

    So would I be better off going multi?

    On the shortlist -

    Zoom B6

    Line6 Pod Go

    Line6 HX Stomp

    Line6 HX Stomp XL

    Line6 HXFX and a preamp pedal.

    Boss GX100 (the biggest of of all the multis I'm contemplating)

    Boss GT Core

    The B6 is plastic and bass focussed, so may not be ideal for my guitar noodling at home.  GT Core is at the price point where I could get a pedal board, decent PSU and a Source Audio Spectrum for octave and filter.  So unless anyone really recommends either of those they are low on my list.

    I've been down to GAK, they had the B6.  They also had the GT6B and GT10B in as used models, but these flipping massive.

    Any advice welcome.

    Thank you for all the suggestions.

    I will mainly use it to even out the peaks and lows on my playing. I have noticed that whenever I play even my passive Alpher that I still have to use the pad on my amp as when I dig in even a little bit(fingerstyle), my cab starts farting out.

    Now I say this as I normally run a helix lt and that’s how I rolled for a number of years and have enjoyed the la compressor amongst other choices. I find it very subtle and transparent. But I find myself recently just plugging in straight to my amp and use a clip on tuner instead (bit liberating). Obviously I go back to the helix if I want effects(depends on which band I play with). But am just looking to simplify things and just get a compressor on its own that can run off a 9v battery. Less wires the better.
