1. I own a Ashdown LB30 which is exactly the same as a CTM30 but have a much aggressive name to it lol. I run the amp to a Trace Elliot 15" cab and it serves well for practice, recording and my stage amp. It works on stage because I DI my bass all the time so I just need something to monitor onstage. Plus my band play quiet onstage so the vocal can hear herself.

I bought a TC Electronics bc250 210 (here http://www.tcelectro...m/bg250-family/ ) which cost £350. It has stacks of volume, a lovely sound, a built in tuner, aux in and headphone out, and downloadable / programmable Toneprint wizardry which serves as effect pedals. I honestly think that you couldn't do better as a newish bassist.

I only wish such combos were around when I started playing.

TC combo is good and light weight. It would be perfect for your situation.

  3. I use one of those redsub 100watt combo 10" speaker for smaller gigs. I use it as stage monitor and lineout the amp to the PA for bigger sound. It's a pretty cool little combo to use and sounds good as well.

I would suggest having a look at the use market for one of those SWR Workingman 10 combo. Quite hard to find one but they are good.

Keep buying when you still can, after wedding it will be very difficult ....... I have GAS for Bareface cab atm but wife says no. Maybe I need to hurt my back when lifting the trace elliot to prove i do need a bareface cab lol.

Thanks Merton. I have only used this setup (LB30) on one rehearsal (7 piece ska band - no pa support) and it sounded fabulous. I've giggled the cabs with a TH500 (with the same band) and was very happy with the cabs' tone and that I didn't run into headroom issues - which I think I would have done using the LB30 without PA support, but the bands backline is too loud - period. These cabs are very capable and think they'll do great on variety of different band setups / music styles etc. Happy Days.

Thanks for posting the pic man. I was wondering how it will stack with the LB30 becaue clearly these cabs is pretty small. I'm using a Trace Elliot 15" cab atm and it gets the job done ok but nothing fancy. I'm already start saving up for two of these simply for tone, weight and storage. It looks like the cabs can easily fit into my Vauxhall Insignia without a problem. Probably for once all my bass gear can fit into the boot without putting the sits down lol.

I use PA support all the time for my gig so pairing them with my lb30 will be no problem for gigs. I even gig with a redsub 100watt 10" combo before for backline monitor with PA support.

  6. Yeah, maybe I need to save up for a VF cab. Got to admit I like the LB30 tone. Even the break up sounded lovely. To behonest you can't really hear the break up unless you isolate the bass track. For songs with bass intro I just play it with less attack and when the drummer kicks in I start smacking away the strings lol.
