"Double Nickels on the Dime" by the Minutemen is probably the best place to start, and for his solo stuff, there's "Ball-Hog or Tugboat?" which features EVERYONE from '80s/90's American alternative music*, and "Tales From The Engine Room" which is his first "opera", sort of about his dad's navy days and sort of about the story of the Minutemen.
