1. I own a Fender Jazz deluxe US. The first mod I did was to replace the defective Fender active PUs and preamp , both with EMG.
The result was great for slapping which I did a lot at the time. The I got tired of the super crystal clear tone after years of use. I never got a decent growl out of the bass.
I sold the EMGs PUs , kept the EMG preamp and installed a pay of Seymour Duncan Antiquity II.
I can still get a great slap tone, but I got back into Fender growl territory.
I found EMG to be too clean, and love the dirt I got back with the Antiquity.

Cheers, Arnaud

2. I got myself a small gig trolley from warwick/rockbag some time ago. The wheels are pretty large and full of rubber. It lift my cab about 20 cm off the stage. I just prefer the sound when I leave the cab on the trolley. It stops all the rattle and boomy bass frequencies. Not sure I will ever go with the Gramma Pad as I don't see how this would isolate further than my trolley already does.

Cheerio,

3. It's not about the watts. it's about how much air you move.
A 4x10 enclosure powered with 300 watts head will sound louder than a 2x10 powered with a 500 watts head.
In my experience, 4x10 or 2x10+15 are a minimum to heard yourself with a LOUD band.
Depending on rating of the cabs, you will need a minimum of 300 W and you will be at home with 500 W.
Start by figuring out how much cabs you want can carry.

It's what comes before the amp that's important and makes more difference than anything. Sh1t in equals sh1t out.

Worth remembering that you're not allowed to toggle with the EQ on the PA so your 'bad sound' could be down to that and also your bass being crap.
+1 to this

At the end of the day, you are at the mercy of the sound engineer and the front house PA.
Your amp is just a monitor.... AMPEG or not.

5. Check out this thread on EA Micro Head. I have left a photo of my head to show how ridiculously small and light it is.
Oh yeah, I absolutely love the tone ... no valve preamp, who needs one when it sounds so good?

I got it from the Bass Gallery in Camden

7. I bought one today. The first impressions are good. It's my first disto pedal so I don't have really a basis of comparison. IMHO, it does produce some tasty sounds. It is more suited for pick players than finger players.

8.
Is there a big difference in using a top-class DI box (Radial, Avalon etc) as opposed to a Behringer or equivalent, apart from reliability and robustness?
If the sound engineer is lame and kills your sound, then I guess there is no difference.
If the sound engineer is good but the house PA is rubbish, then again, there won't be much difference.
If sound engineer and house PA are great ... then it may be worth it ... but how many time does that happen ???

9.
I'd be worried about it blowing away at an outdoor gig. Fortunately there's a solution (though this is for the Miniamp rather than the Micro, but I think it will fit the Micro as well)

If you look at the photo, there's a gnome on top of my EA head.
The gnome keeps the head in place during windy outdoor gigs and is also a deterrent for thieves...

10. Hi,

I own a EA Micro and I absolutely love it. It's by far the smallest head I have ever seen, and it only weights 1 KG.
The preamp is very basic , BASS / MID / TRE , but does the job fine . Also, you can switch anytime between 2 channels with same bass , or 2 different basses, which I found really useful. The sound is crystal clear and won't be suited for anyone after a tubey tone.
The amp is really LOUD, and it's quite unreal to see so much sound coming out of such a tiny box.
I highly recommend it.

Cheers,

11. Hi,

I own a SWR SM 400 and I have changed the original Groove Tube valve. It's a 5 min job.
I have changed to something supposedly more vintage sounding , but I can really tell the difference to be honest.

I would advise you buy a valve in case yours die. But, if ain't broken, don't fix it.

Cheers,

BassPimp
