  1. Mine arrived on Tuesday and I plan to gig it on Saturday! Eek. Luckily I've got a 15 underneath it, so I've got a back up plan, I'm sure it'll be fine and you were just a bit unlucky.

Mine did arrive with some slight tearing on the tolex, the cab had been knocked in transit and the stables on the cardboard had scraped a corner, shame, but Thomann have done the honourable thing and refunded me a small discount. Ace company, I'm sure they'll get it sorted for you with little fuss.

  2. We make sure that our backline sounds good first, and that the drums are tuned, this is done in the practice room. Then small adjustments are made for the room we're in, but it's usually very minor.

We play some music first to make sure the PA sounds alright in the room, adjust the sub...

We do vocals first, the rest of the band listen to me line checking, then the kick, snare and toms to get a level on the whole kit (we don't usually use an overhead for the cymbals in pubs, they're loud enough)

We play so regularly that the guitarists know what sort of levels they need to be at on their amps anyway, so we then play two songs with varying dynamics, so we can get a balanced mix with either me or the guitarist out front listening to levels.

We mic the guitars only if the room is big or there's something directly in the way of the crowd, there are a few gigs where we're "enclosed", so we put everything though the PA and point a speaker in their direction.

Then, after aaallll that, I bring the foldback mix up and we play.

  3. I get the main parts exact, especially signature lines, but otherwise, they're slightly tailored to our style.

I try to force the guitarist to play the solos to the note, mainly because we play songs I LOVE (mostly), so I like to hear them like the record!

  4. Do you guys think it's possible to get a Ray35 scratchplate made for a Ray34? Does anyone make custom scratchplates on here?!

I've just bought a Sterling SUB Ray4, which looks ace, but I much prefer the Ray5 scratchplate...

  5. Practice practice practice! I find that after a while, my mind locks certain words to certain notes within the bassline, then it's easier. If it's covers, I usually sit at home, slow the track 10% with audacity or something similar and loop it for a 20 minutes at a time, until I can take the speed back up.

Once you've started and got a couple of songs right, it's much easier to learn new ones too.

    Morning....
Being new to the forum I'm not sure of the etiquette here but I'm looking to sell my SVT. It's in perfect condition (except a couple of cosmetic 'road scratches'), I'm only selling it because I don't need anything this big anymore.
So, what happens now? I know how much I paid for it but they don't seem to pop up on ebay too often so don't know what to ask for it. Is it bad form to ask for offers?

You need to list a price, dude, forum rules.

I'd say anything between £700 - £850, depending on condition is the going rate...

  7. We downtuned the lot to E flat for one gig to try and help us out with God Gave Rock...I found it quite difficult as I've obviously got the muscle memory for the higher tuning, so we were all over the show! We haven't tried it again and rely on the crowd to help us with the 2nd chorus haha

Maybe after a couple of practices it would be fine, but we're dropping songs rather than changing key.

  8. I've been using the 4x10 combo of this head, and I thought it was going to be rubbish, but it sounds ace. There's so much variety out of the two very distinct channels and the ability to blend them gives you even more options.

This head with one or two (more efficient than the combo drivers) cabs and you've got a really good sounding bass amp. Cheap too.

  9. I bought an SVT-6 recently off here, only used it a couple of times as we've have backline provided or I've been on holiday. The last two gigs we've played, I've tripped the fuse box at both!

Queue careful power management, a strict "turn on" order and my own exclusive socket!

I've read up on these heads, seems to be a common issue, but it sounds like a bass amp should...the things we do for "tone"...

    Looks alright too...

Well, yes, but not playing any Beatles songs in The Cavern is not a great start is it?

Sorry, I missed the bit out about lots of people whinging that all the hear is Beatles songs all the time in there! To lots of local people who go there, it's their actual local, they don't want to hear the Beatles all the time!
